Background / History

Omega's Experimental Mecha

Yuan Zhen designed MS-03 under Omega's compartmentalized research system. Even personnel who collected its data, adjusted its parameters, or installed its armor knew only fragments of its underlying technology. Yuan Zhen told her apprentice, Dr. Miki, that the machine carried “all of Omega's hopes” 69 174.

The MS series was intended to verify soul-tech. Yu Xiao later described Bai Ying's successful liberation of Butterfly's power as heavily dependent on luck, arguing that failure could have left her in a worse condition than Iron Hand, the mutated pilot of MS-07BV 211.

The Memory Within MS-03

During an attempt to synchronize with the partially repaired machine, Bai Ying entered a memory that was not her own. It consisted of a suffocating isolation tank, an indistinct man pounding on its glass, and other blurred figures. MS-03 could no longer remember why it was there or identify the man 73 74.

Bai Ying recognized the scene as MS-03's own “Chasing the Little Rabbit” state and sought to communicate rather than escape. The encounter ended with two identical girls speaking the name “Bean” in unison, followed by successful 99% synchronization and the unlocking of Mode 2. The passage does not explain the full meaning of that name or memory 74.

Recognition as Die

After the connection deepened, Bai Ying could sense MS-03's emotions. When Iron Hand's account of pilot mutation frightened her, she also felt the machine's fear of losing her 87.

Bai Ying later recognized its consciousness as a little girl named Die. By the time Omega publicly released its experimental-mecha data, Die had become an officially registered Black Sky Legion machine. Bai Ying described discovering a mecha's hidden name as a sign of mutual recognition and trust 174 177 212.
