Background
Tang San spent his childhood in Holy Soul Village with his alcoholic father, Tang Hao. Before his Martial Soul awakening, he cultivated the Mysterious Heaven Skill in secret, made meals for Tang Hao, and forged iron at the village smithy. 131 132
At his awakening, Tang San publicly manifested Blue Silver Grass and was confirmed to possess Innate Full Soul Power. He secretly manifested a second Martial Soul, the Clear Sky Hammer, immediately hiding it from Su Yuntao and the villagers. 132 His dense, rapidly recovering Soul Power and unusually precise control were later attributed to the Mysterious Heaven Skill. 33
After Doctor Luo invited him to study medicine, Tang San used the opportunity to inspect Luo's Herb Shop. He ultimately stole a Thousand-Year Ginseng with Ghost Shadow Perplexing Track, despite recognizing the risk. 133 134 135 He later used most of the ginseng to save Tang Hao from severe injuries. 143 157
Tang Hao then revealed that Tang San's mother, Ah Yin, had been a Hundred-Thousand-Year Blue Silver Emperor in human form and had sacrificed herself during Martial Soul Hall's pursuit of the family. Tang Hao also disclosed Tang San's Twin Martial Souls and ordered him to conceal the Clear Sky Hammer until he was strong enough. 144 Ah Yin's original body and Hundred-Thousand-Year Blue Silver Emperor Right Leg Bone had already been taken by Luo Can and Qian Renxue, greatly diminishing Tang San's prospects of awakening as a Blue Silver Emperor. 135 233 After Tang Hao departed, Tang San left Holy Soul Village for Nuoding City, carrying the remaining ginseng and vowing to grow strong enough to pursue the family's blood feud. 153
In Nuoding City, Tang San accepted Yu Xiaogang as his master after Yu recognized his Twin Martial Souls from his Spirit Proof. Yu Xiaogang reinforced Tang Hao's warning: Tang San was not to reveal or attach Spirit Rings to the Clear Sky Hammer. 156
After obtaining his first Spirit Ring, Tang San formally registered as a work-study student at Nuoding Academy. During the registration process, he viciously incapacitated a guard who insulted both Yu Xiaogang and his Blue Silver Grass. 232 Tang Hao later met Yu Xiaogang in secret, formally entrusting Tang San's upbringing and cultivation to him before departing again. 232
Appearance
At a little over seven years old, Tang San appears physically older than his age. His facial contours have become notably harder, and fine hair has begun growing along his temples, giving him a prematurely mature appearance. 277
- Often trains shirtless with four ten-pound iron blocks strapped to his back. 211
- Wears the Nuoding City Academy uniform while studying at the academy. 277
- Repeated Whale Rubber consumption causes abnormal premature development, including facial, chest, and arm hair that makes him appear far older than his actual age. 231
- His eyes display a pale-purple glow while practicing the Purple Demon Eye. 222
- When his future Divine Sense takes control, his eyes turn blue-gold and a Golden Trident manifests on his forehead. 222
Personality
Tang San is secretive, cautious, and highly deliberate about preserving advantages. He hid the Clear Sky Hammer the instant it appeared, concealed the full nature of his Mysterious Heaven Skill, and later followed Yu Xiaogang's advice to keep Leaf Volley secret so opponents would underestimate him. 132 156 230
His central motivation is strength: after learning of Ah Yin's sacrifice, he commits himself to revenge against Martial Soul Hall. 144 153 This goal often overrides moral restraint. He steals the Thousand-Year Ginseng, suppresses his guilt over the framed shop worker, and uses toxin-laced attacks to disable a guard who insulted Yu Xiaogang and his Blue Silver Grass. 135 153 232 He also lies to Xiao Wu to conceal the lingering scent and effects of his life-draining cultivation method. 241
Tang San applies the Tang Sect principle of showing no mercy to those he identifies as enemies. Rather than merely driving away the academy guard who insulted him and Yu Xiaogang, he deliberately cut the man's joints and tendons to leave him unable to move. 232
He is also intensely disciplined. He trains before dawn, practices the Disorder Splitting Wind Hammer to at least twenty-one consecutive swings, and continues cultivating through the night. 211 241
Abilities & Skills
Twin Martial Souls
Tang San possesses Blue Silver Grass and the Clear Sky Hammer, inheriting bloodlines from both Ah Yin and Tang Hao. 144
- Blue Silver Grass — His public Martial Soul; its Blue Silver Emperor bloodline has not awakened and is later discovered to be sealed. 144 222
- Clear Sky Hammer — His concealed second Martial Soul, inherited from Tang Hao. Tang Hao and Yu Xiaogang forbid him from showing it or attaching Spirit Rings to it. 144 156
- His Innate Full Soul Power is tied to his Twin Martial Souls rather than Blue Silver Grass alone. 132
Mysterious Heaven Skill
Tang San has cultivated this Tang Sect method since childhood. It produces unusually dense, mellow Soul Power, rapid recovery, and precise control beyond his apparent rank. 33 132
- Converts his pre-awakening internal energy into Soul Power. 132
- Refines and stabilizes the unstable Soul Power acquired through his evil cultivation method. 241
- Forms the foundation for his accelerated cultivation and physical training. 211 277
Tang Sect Techniques
Tang San practices several Tang Sect arts alongside his Soul Master training.
- Ghost Shadow Perplexing Track — Used to infiltrate Luo's Herb Shop and steal the Thousand-Year Ginseng. 134 135
- Purple Demon Eye — Practiced at sunrise; grants his eyes a pale-purple glow during use. 222
- Mysterious Jade Hand — Used in conjunction with the Mysterious Heaven Skill to temper his hands. 211
- Disorder Splitting Wind Hammer — A hammer technique left to him by Tang Hao; he can steadily chain at least twenty-one swings. 153 211
First Spirit Skill: Leaf Volley
After absorbing the Golden Thread Four-Leaf Clover Spirit Ring, Tang San gains Leaf Volley, his true first Spirit Skill. 228 230
- Far more powerful than the Blue Silver Entangle he had previously shown Yu Xiaogang. 230
- Can produce ten thick Blue Silver Grass stalks with golden serrated edges, which spin and fire piercing leaves in all directions. 230
- Its Soul Power consumption is extremely low; even a ten-stalk volley uses less than one-tenth of his Soul Power. 230
- Yu Xiaogang advises him to conceal its true nature to preserve the advantage of being underestimated. 230
- The Golden Thread Four-Leaf Clover's poison remains on wounds inflicted during combat. 232
Evil Cultivation Method
Following the return of his future Divine Sense, Tang San receives unfamiliar medicinal knowledge and an obscure cultivation mantra. 223
- First manifests through dark-purple Blue Silver Grass that roots itself in the ground and greedily absorbs surrounding nourishment, accelerating his cultivation severalfold. 223
- Drains life force from nearby plants and insects through purple-blue Blue Silver Grass vines. 241
- Rapidly increases Soul Power, allowing him to reach level 14. 241
- Leaves a withered dead zone and a malevolent aura that must be suppressed with the Mysterious Heaven Skill. 241
- By circulating the Mysterious Heaven Skill through the night, he compresses, purifies, and stabilizes the Soul Power plundered through the method. 241
Future Divine Sense
A fragment of Tang San's Divine Sense from ten thousand years in the future enters his younger body. The original Tang San is initially unaware of its presence. 222
- Examines Tang San's memories and recognizes deviations from the expected timeline. 222
- Can temporarily seize control of Tang San's body, causing his eyes to become blue-gold and a Golden Trident mark to emerge on his forehead. 222
- Supplies future knowledge, including the hidden benefits of Whale Rubber and the evil cultivation method. 223 224
- Intends to guide Tang San onto a revised path to godhood and retaliate against the unknown force changing the timeline. 222
- Its arrival coincides with Tang San receiving unfamiliar memories and cultivation knowledge, allowing him to pursue methods his younger self would not otherwise know. 223 224
Items
- Thousand-Year Ginseng — Stolen from Luo's Herb Shop; used to save Tang Hao, with the remaining half carried when Tang San leaves Holy Soul Village. 135 143 153
- Disorder Splitting Wind Hammer manual — A tattered copy left by Tang Hao before his departure. 153
- Purple Whale Rubber — Consumed daily with Yu Xiaogang for training, though its returns diminish over time. Its initial consumption more than doubles Tang San's physical strength and helps him withstand the five-hundred-year Spirit Ring. 228 230 Repeated consumption also causes his premature physical development. 231
Relationships
- Tang Hao — Father and the Clear Sky Douluo. Tang Hao reveals Tang San's heritage, instructs him to become strong, and later entrusts his education to Yu Xiaogang. 144 153 232
- Ah Yin — Mother; a Hundred-Thousand-Year Blue Silver Emperor in human form who sacrificed herself to save Tang Hao and infant Tang San. 144
- Yu Xiaogang — Master and primary mentor at Nuoding Academy. He identifies Tang San's Twin Martial Souls, plans his Spirit Ring route, and oversees his physical cultivation. 156 157 211 Yu Xiaogang intends his first three Blue Silver Grass Spirit Rings to come from the Golden Thread Four-Leaf Clover, Ghost Vine, and Snake Root Thorn, respectively. 211 231
- Luo Can — Observer and adversary. Luo Can tests Tang San with the Thousand-Year Ginseng bait, monitors him through the Dragon Seal, and regards his rapid growth as a future threat. 134 135 224 277
- Tang Ya — A future Tang Sect leader who initially worships him as an ancestor. After witnessing his concealed Twin Martial Souls and theft, she becomes disillusioned with the version of Tang San preserved in Tang Sect records and resolves to defeat him herself. 62 132 135 143 She believes he concealed crucial information about his Twin Martial Souls and withheld portions of the Mysterious Heaven Skill inheritance, contributing to the Tang Sect's later decline. 132
- Xiao Wu — Academy companion, sparring partner, and fellow disciple under Yu Xiaogang. Tang San defeats her in their first spar but is impressed by her unusual flexibility and combat skill. 233
- Wang Dong'er — His future daughter, transported ten thousand years into the past. Tang San's Divine Sense seeks her after becoming separated from her. 220
- Martial Soul Hall — Tang San considers it responsible for his mother's sacrifice and his family's years in hiding, forming the basis of his desire for revenge. 144 153
Story Role / Major Arcs
Holy Soul Village and the Ginseng Theft
Tang San's awakening exposes his Innate Full Soul Power and Twin Martial Souls, drawing Luo Can's attention. Luo Can then engineers the Thousand-Year Ginseng theft to expose Tang San's behavior to Tang Ya, whose faith in her ancestor begins to collapse. 132 134 135
Nuoding Academy Training
After Tang Hao's departure, Tang San enters Nuoding City and becomes Yu Xiaogang's disciple. He gains his first Spirit Ring from the Golden Thread Four-Leaf Clover, registers as a One-Ring Spirit Master, and develops his cultivation around Yu Xiaogang's control-system Spirit Ring plan. 156 228 230 231
Tang San's first ring raises him to level 13, while Whale Rubber further reinforces his body and enables him to conceal Leaf Volley behind the false public skill Blue Silver Entangle. 228 230
After officially registering as a work-study student, Tang San violently incapacitates an academy guard who disparages Yu Xiaogang and his Martial Soul. 232 He later meets Xiao Wu, defeats her in a spar, and becomes her fellow disciple under Yu Xiaogang. 233
Accelerated Cultivation
Using the unfamiliar cultivation method supplied through his future Divine Sense, Tang San secretly drains the life force of plants and insects in the forest behind Nuoding Academy. 223 241 The practice rapidly advances him to level 14, but it creates a conspicuous withered zone and leaves him carrying a malevolent grassy scent. 241
Tang San conceals the method from Xiao Wu and uses the Mysterious Heaven Skill each night to purify its unstable, plundered Soul Power. 241 By the time Yu Xiaogang departs Nuoding City to seek his fourth Spirit Ring, Tang San has reached level 15 and expects to break through again during his master's absence. 277
Timeline Anomaly
Tang San's future Divine Sense returns to his younger body and discovers that the timeline has diverged: Tang Hao revealed family secrets early, Tang San entered Yu Xiaogang's tutelage early, and another Blue Silver Emperor has been born. 222 The Divine Sense begins steering Tang San through knowledge unavailable to his younger self, including the evil cultivation method that accelerates his growth. 223 241
Tang San first experiences violent palpitations and the sensation that a part of himself is being torn away when Tang Ya contracts the Blue Silver Emperor as her Soul Spirit. The future Divine Sense later identifies that Tang San's own Blue Silver Emperor bloodline has been sealed. 211 222
“I will become strong, I certainly will!”
— Tang San, after Tang Hao leaves Holy Soul Village 153
