History

Luo Can had known the hidden valley for at least ten years before the story began. After first falling into it as a child, he survived on the spring water and wild fruits for three days, during which his soul power rose to level three. He later spent a year discovering a safe route in and out of the valley, and used the spring's marrow-cleansing effects and its medicinal herbs to force his soul power to level ten at age thirteen. 1

The valley also sheltered Luo Can during his Martial Soul's first major transformation. After absorbing his Seventh Spirit Ring, he spent three days wrapped in a white cocoon beside Fate-Defying Spring and emerged with the Dragon Moth Martial Soul. 1

After obtaining the Golden Earth Dragon's soul ring and reaching level 91, Luo Can returned by leaping from Death Cliff, drank from the spring, and called it his “old friend.” He then consolidated his new Title Douluo realm beneath the Dragon Blood Tree he had planted there as a sapling. 1

After gaining access to fishing and system upgrades, Luo Can repeatedly expanded the spring and the valley with points earned from fishing. The initially small spring became Fate-Defying Lake, while the surrounding land developed into a Blessed Land with unusually dense spiritual and life energy. 3 5 23 28

The valley became the foundation of Luo Can's growing faction. He used it to train disciples, shelter recruits drawn from different eras, house powerful soul beasts, develop Soul Tools, and educate orphaned children through Qichen Academy. 154 234 241 261 272

Its defenses were progressively reinforced through the Spatial Barrier. By the level-four permission upgrade, the valley was concealed from God King-level divine sense; after later upgrades, Luo Can considered it a secure refuge unless a God King descended personally. 67 119

At permission level five, Fate Defying Valley ceased to be merely a hidden valley and became an independent Small World, physically separate from the Douluo Continent. The following day, Luo Can learned that the world's core had bonded with his soul, granting him the World Synchronization ability. 214 215 261 269

Immediately after this transformation, the Small World's population remained sparse: nine humans, ten Immortal Herbs, and barely four hundred Spirit Beasts. Luo Can consequently decided to recruit homeless orphans from the Douluo Continent, both to populate the growing world and to raise loyal followers who would regard it as their home. 215

Following its transformation, Fate Defying Valley increasingly developed into a self-sustaining settlement. Its population expanded through successive intakes of orphans, while Qichen Academy, the Body Sect's rebuilt branch, Soul Tool research, medicinal refinement, and soul-beast domestication continued to develop within the Small World. 272 300 329 343

The valley subsequently became a refuge and recruitment base for influential figures from later eras, including Ma Xiaotao, Zhang Lexuan, Snow Empress, and Evil Phoenix Douluo Feng Ling. Its residents continued to integrate powerful Spirit Beasts, cultivate artificial hundred-thousand-year Spirit Rings with Life Gold, and attempt to reform Evil-Attribute Martial Soul Masters rather than merely eliminate them. 358 383 389 396 402

The purification effort became a regular operation, with groups of Evil Martial Soul Spirit Masters and Fallen Spirit Masters arriving every three to five days. Those successfully purified stayed temporarily in the valley to recover before joining efforts to find others in similar circumstances. After Feng Ling's purification, Luo Can established the Fate Defying Pavilion's Purification Hall to house, educate, and assign purified Spirit Masters, appointing her its Hall Master. 393 407

After bringing the Ice Empress into the valley, Luo Can accumulated 2,050,000 Points through several days of Fishing and salvaging items. He spent two million Points on a further Fishing Spot upgrade, expanding the world and releasing life-giving rain throughout it. The upgrade strengthened its defenses into the Absolute Spatial Barrier and raised World Synchronization's temporary power to the Second-Level God tier. 415 417

The upgraded valley continued to receive powerful newcomers, including Huo Yutong, Lin An, and Long Xiaoyao. Long Xiaoyao agreed to remain after Luo Can defeated him in a sparring match and introduced him to several of the valley's strongest residents. 418 419 421 423 439

Despite the strengthened barrier, Luo Can remained cautious about threats that might expose the Small World. He and Qian Renxue decided not to bring the Blood God Sword Tip into the valley while its surviving divine will remained protected by Asura Divine Power. Instead, Qian Daoliu was to continue monitoring it until Luo Can could safely erase the remnant will and protect the refuge. 452

Cultivation Environment

Fate Defying Valley's spiritual and life energy continuously improved with its upgrades, making it a major cultivation site for both humans and soul beasts.

• At the Blessed Land stage, all creatures cultivating inside received a tenfold cultivation-speed bonus. 28
• The dense energy allowed residents to accumulate soul power even without deliberate meditation. 28
