Background / History

Spirit Beasts are not a unified people despite the human term “Spirit Beast Clan.” They comprise thousands of distinct groups, many of which coexist through predation, hostility, and long-standing racial conflicts; dragons, phoenixes, tigers, and Behemoths are cited as groups with mutual blood feuds. 133

Their individual strength is shaped chiefly by cultivation age, bloodline quality, and whether they condense a Soul Core. Spirit Beasts repeatedly attempt to construct Soul Cores instinctively as they grow; stronger bloodlines improve this process, while long lifespans provide more chances to succeed. 111

Humans hunt Spirit Beasts for Spirit Rings and Spirit Bones. Higher-age and higher-quality beasts are more likely to possess Soul Core prototypes and yield Spirit Bones; a hundred-thousand-year Spirit Beast necessarily possesses a Soul Core and is guaranteed to leave a Spirit Bone. 35 111

Powerful Spirit Beasts remain a major danger to humanity. Although they are restricted by heavenly tribulations and cannot attain godhood at their peak, their ancestral power and resources exceed humanity's; lifting those restrictions would threaten human civilization. 110

Soul Cores and Spirit Bones

A Soul Core compresses and improves the quality of soul power while greatly increasing its recovery rate. It is presented as the central reason Spirit Beasts can surpass human Spirit Masters in power. 111

• A Spirit Beast's bloodline contains the instinctive “program” that drives repeated attempts to form a Soul Core. 111
