Background / History

Chen Ming was born into a farming family in Holy Soul Village. During his martial soul awakening, he manifested the Heavy Armored Earth Dragon, gaining earth-yellow scales, dragon claws, a tail, horns, and armor-like bodily protection. His awakened soul power increased his already exceptional computational capacity, allowing him to think in parallel and begin constructing a self-created cultivation method through analysis of meridians and soul-power circulation. 2 3 6

At Nuoding Junior Soul Master Academy, Chen Ming became a work-study student alongside Tang San. He defeated Wang Sheng without strategy through raw defensive strength, refused the position of dormitory boss, and instead declared that he would protect students from bullying. After defeating Xiao Chenyu with a single Heart-Striking Elbow, he named Xiao Wu as the academy boss while becoming the protector of the work-study students. 10 16

He rejected offers from the academy principal and Yu Xiaogang to help him obtain a soul ring, choosing instead to hunt independently in the Star Dou Forest. He returned with his first hundred-year ring, then declined Ma Xiunuo’s invitation to join the Nuoding City branch of Martial Soul Hall because it did not suit his long-term plans. 16 19

Chen Ming later entered Heaven Dou Royal Academy, where its mineral-vein cultivation environment increased his cultivation speed. He rapidly became known for his perfect recall, analysis, combat ability, and inventions. His Bed Crossbow and Hand Crossbow earned him a viscountcy, extensive territory, and later wider political influence within the Heaven Dou Empire. 23 24 26 27

After traveling with Dugu Bo to the Ice and Fire Yin-Yang Well, Chen Ming studied medicine, poison arts, body refinement, alchemy, and martial soul theory. He treated Dugu Bo’s poison-related condition through a staged plan, became his sworn younger brother, and developed medicines and cultivation methods with Dugu Bo, Ye Renxin, and Chrysanthemum Douluo. 33 43 45 55 57

His publication of the Douluo Mental Method brought him to Martial Soul Hall’s attention. Qian Daoliu publicly recognized and protected him, eventually granting him the standing of an Honorary Elder. Chen Ming subsequently became a sought-after authority among Martial Soul Hall, the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect, and the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan. 61 62 86 95 97

Appearance

Chen Ming is notably tall and physically developed for his age, standing about 1.6 meters at eight years old. Training, diet, medicinal refinement, and dragon-bloodline evolution give him a streamlined, muscular build and a composed, resolute bearing. 23 36

  • In his initial Martial Soul Possession, he becomes a half-dragon warrior clad in earth-yellow scale armor. 2 9
  • His transformed hands become dragon claws; he grows a heavy tail and young dragon horns. 2
  • After later evolution, his armor becomes less bulky while his actual defense improves. 37
  • His advanced possession manifests golden scales, enlarged dragon limbs, sharp horns, and a dark-purple right eye alongside a bright gold or flame-like left eye. 104
  • In the Dragon Spear state, his beast traits recede and he wields a two-meter dark-golden dragon-patterned staff. 101

Personality

Chen Ming is analytical, self-reliant, and intensely goal-oriented. He approaches cultivation, medicine, invention, and politics as systems to be studied, improved, and used strategically. He routinely refuses arrangements that would limit his independence, including Yu Xiaogang’s offer of guidance and an early invitation from Martial Soul Hall. 19 21

Despite his pragmatism, he values promises and responsibility. He considers betrayal and broken commitments especially intolerable, and he remains committed to fully curing Dugu Bo rather than settling for superficial treatment. 43 36

He also has a reformist streak: his desire to publish affordable medicine and cultivation methods stems from having witnessed the hardship of commoners and work-study students. At the same time, he openly recognizes that fame, information networks, and political leverage can further his larger ambitions. 55 56

Abilities & Skills

Sacred Earth Dragon Martial Soul

Chen Ming’s martial soul evolved from the Heavy Armored Earth Dragon into the Sacred Earth Dragon, combining Earth Dragon and Mountain Dragon bloodlines. Its foundation is exceptional stability, density, physical strength, and earth affinity. 52

  • Provides immense natural defense and powerful linear burst speed. 15
  • Its Mountain Dragon component gives Chen Ming a stable foundation for accepting further dragon-king powers. 52
  • Later incorporated metallic qualities from the Singular Velvet Sky Chrysanthemum and golden essence blood from a Single-Horn Tyrant Dragon horn. 59 153
  • Its superior dragon bloodline can suppress inferior sub-dragon spirit beasts. 153

Computational Ability and Memory

Awakening his martial soul dramatically increased Chen Ming’s computational upper limit. He can enter a high-speed mental state, process several trains of thought at once, and use soul power to sustain his body during prolonged calculations. 6

  • Possesses photographic memory and can accurately recall books after a single reading. 24
  • Memorized 150,000 characters of medical and poison texts in an hour. 33
  • Uses calculation models based on human structure and movement to predict opponents’ actions. 107
  • His computing power rose from roughly 3 after his first ring to 7.0 after reaching the Soul Elder realm. 18 86

Cultivation Methods

Chen Ming independently developed the Basic Internal Skill, then refined it into the publicly released Douluo Mental Method through research with Dugu Bo, Ye Renxin, and Chrysanthemum Douluo. 6 56 57

  • The Basic Internal Skill is neutral, balanced, non-attribute-conflicting, and adaptable to different martial souls. 7
  • The Douluo Mental Method was created after studying the martial souls of Chrysanthemum Douluo and Ye Renxin. 57
  • He can design targeted cultivation methods by analyzing a martial soul’s traits and soul-power circulation. 56
  • He uses the method as a means to gather knowledge and study martial souls across the continent. 56

Medical Arts and Alchemy

Chen Ming rapidly mastered most of Dugu Bo’s medical and poison knowledge, later receiving guidance from Ye Renxin and collaborating with Chrysanthemum Douluo. 33 45

  • Designed a five-stage treatment plan that stabilized and improved Dugu Bo’s condition. 33 45
  • Formulates pills, powders, ointments, nutrient solutions, and specialized medicinal treatments. 36 55 140
  • Created Large and Small Soul Ascension Pills, the Three Treasures Dragon Transformation Pill, and the Dragon-Tiger Great Restoration Pill. 97 99
  • Developed a low-cost medicinal powder intended for low-level spirit scholars and spirit masters. 54 55

Beast Soul Tool-ification

Chen Ming can convert portions of his dragon scales and martial soul into physical weapons or equipment, then return them to energy. 37

  • Creates the Dragon Scale Shield, a large dragon-patterned shield with extreme durability and rebound force. 106
  • Can form weapons from his martial soul; after consuming the Singular Velvet Sky Chrysanthemum, these constructs gained a golden quality. 59
  • The ability is limited by spirit-power consumption and by the portion of his body it can cover. 85

Spirit Skills

  • Fertile Earth Bestowal — First spirit skill. Raises defense and earth affinity by 50%; later also gains a 50% metal-attribute boost. 105
  • Dragon Transformation — Second spirit skill. Partially dragonizes his body, raises all attributes by 30%, and strengthens his other skills. 42
  • Energy Devouring Shield — Absorbs and sustains damage instead of shattering immediately, greatly strengthening Chen Ming’s defense. Its use consumes significant spirit power and burdens his body. 85 106
  • Yin-Yang Eye Technique — Fourth-ring ocular ability that expands his field of view and visual range; he can ignite objects with his gaze at high soul-power and mental-energy cost. 154
  • Dragon Dance — Fourth spirit skill. A specific dance and soul-power rhythm increase attack power and speed by 50% per stack, for up to six stacks; each stack increases soul-power consumption and physical strain. 154

Defensive Techniques

  • Pseudo-Indestructible Diamond Body — A wind-up defensive state that doubles Chen Ming’s defense and grants near-immunity to abnormal status effects, but cannot be maintained for long. 58
  • Invincible Golden Body — At its highest described output, can withstand one or two attacks from a Title Douluo, but only briefly. 106
  • His ordinary defense is comparable to elite Defense System Soul Kings; through secret techniques, deeper Dragon Transformation, or burning his origin, it can briefly approach Spirit Saint level. 106

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Storage Soul Tool — Pendant given by Qin Ming upon Chen Ming’s arrival at Heaven Dou Royal Academy. 23
  • Ruyi Hundred Treasure Pouch — Used to carry herbs and other items. 53 140
  • Bed Crossbow and Hand Crossbow — Military inventions presented to Emperor Xue Ye. 26
  • Firearms and fragmentation grenades — Manufactured for his first soul-hunting journey, then disposed of to prevent Tang San from learning their construction. 16 19
  • Great Tyrant Dragon horn fragment — Gift from Qian Jun Douluo and Falling Devil Douluo; contains essence blood for cultivation. 62
  • Silver Dragon scale — Gift from Chrysanthemum Douluo. 63
  • Lightning Speed Dragon leg bone — Thousand-year spirit bone offered by Yu Yuanzhen as a deposit for Chen Ming’s assistance. 97
  • Blue Silver Emperor soul bone — Hundred-thousand-year soul bone from Ah Yin; grants flight and recovery abilities. 141
  • Temporary Dragon Spear — Formed using a Single-Horn Tyrant Dragon horn; grants a stable 10% attribute boost and can carry portions of his spirit skills. 150
