Background / History
Xiao Wu is a Hundred-Thousand-Year Spirit Beast who transformed into a human in order to cultivate among humans. Her true form is connected to the divine Jade Rabbit bloodline rather than an ordinary Soft Bone Rabbit; an unknown fortuitous encounter also strengthened her origin enough for her to survive the Lightning Tribulation. Her mother was likewise a Hundred-Thousand-Year Spirit Beast who chose human transformation, while Da Ming and Er Ming were saved by Xiao Wu’s mother and lived alongside Xiao Wu for a hundred thousand years. 109
Her upbringing under the Jade Rabbit Empress was strict but doting, leaving her with an immature and willful temperament despite her age. 134
Xiao Wu enters Nuoding Academy as a Work-Study Student and immediately challenges Tang San for control of Dorm Seven. She defeats him and assumes the position of dorm boss. 10 She later defeats Chen Ming in a spar through her superior agility and joint-locking Soft Technique. 11
Her relationship with Tang San cools after he separates himself from the Work-Study Students to follow Yu Xiaogang. Xiao Wu had initially wanted to befriend him because she sensed a familiar, gentle life force from him, but she becomes angry and refuses to bother with him after his departure. 13
Chen Ming repeatedly spars with Xiao Wu, analyzes her physical condition and fighting style, and uses the resulting observations to improve his cultivation method. Their daily training develops into a close bond, with Xiao Wu eventually viewing him as a friend and younger brother. 14 15 132
After encountering Chen Ming again in rebuilt Holy Soul Village, Xiao Wu becomes frightened that he has discovered her identity. Chen Ming confirms that he knows she is a transformed Hundred-Thousand-Year Spirit Beast. 131 132 133 He captures and collars her, claiming the collar will prevent others from harming her should her identity be exposed. 134 Though her freedom is restricted, Chen Ming provides her with cultivation methods, resources, guidance, and generally favorable daily treatment. 135 157
Appearance
Xiao Wu appears as a cute young girl around Chen Ming’s age, with rabbit-ear hair accessories, pink clothing, and slightly chubby cheeks. 131
- Rabbit-ear hair accessories that visibly sway when she tries to hide. 131
- Pink clothing. 131
- A yellow Spirit Ring when using her first Spirit Skill. 14
- Later wears a collar placed on her by Chen Ming. 134
Personality
Xiao Wu is proud, competitive, and highly confident in her own strength. She quickly asserts herself as Dorm Seven’s boss, boasts after gaining the upper hand in combat, and dislikes being underestimated. 10 14
She is also impulsive and guided by strong rabbit instincts. She initially wants to eat the weakened Blue Silver Emperor and nearly kills Ah Yin by consuming most of its leaves, but becomes guilty after Chen Ming saves the plant and teaches her the value of its life. 136 137
Despite her bold front, Xiao Wu is deeply wary of humans because transformed Hundred-Thousand-Year Spirit Beasts are hunted for Spirit Rings and Soul Bones. The presence of a Title Douluo’s aura leaves her unable to move, and learning that Chen Ming knows her identity makes her fear exploitation and death. 132 133
