Background / History
At the beginning of the story, the clan is in its prime and has not yet faced the decline associated with Linley’s future era. Ren regards it as openly tyrannical toward outsiders and abandons any thought of seeking its protection or friendship. 1
Hell is the clan’s ancestral home, with the Heavenly Sacrifice Mountain Range serving as its central territory. Its influence extends across the four supreme planes and seven divine planes, supported by outposts and stationed elders beyond Hell. 2 20
The clan’s prestige rests not only on its four Sovereign ancestors but also on a long-standing policy of forceful retaliation. Its members and leaders repeatedly treat offenses against even a single clansman as an affront to the entire family’s honor. 23 27 31
Organization
| Component | Details |
|---|---|
| Four branches | Azure Dragon, White Tiger, Vermilion Bird, and Black Tortoise. Their members display distinct bloodline transformations in battle. 41 |
| Ancestral territory | The Heavenly Sacrifice Mountain Range in Hell, containing branch territories, palaces, elder residences, and the Dragon Transformation Pool. 20 27 110 |
| Sovereign ancestors | Azure Dragon Sovereign Reding, White Tiger Sovereign Lierus, Vermilion Bird Sovereign Nimo, and Black Tortoise Sovereign Bowen. They are usually absent from the clan’s daily affairs. 27 71 73 |
| Daily leadership | Patriarchs and grand elders administer the clan; Gaiseresen manages Sovereign’s Might alongside other patriarchs. 18 27 |
| Population | More than one hundred million clan members were born in the Heavenly Sacrifice Mountain Range. 20 |
| High-level forces | The clan possessed six Asura-level members: four clan leaders and two grand elders from the Azure Dragon and Black Tortoise branches. 20 |
| Elder corps | More than one hundred Seven-Star Demon elders could be assembled at the ancestral grounds, with further elders stationed at overseas outposts. 27 |
Sovereign's Might Allocation
The clan restricts Sovereign’s Might to prevent its members from becoming dependent on it rather than cultivating. Seven-Star Demon elders receive a baseline of ten drops, Six-Star Demons receive five, and replenishments occur only every few hundred million years. 18
- Elders may receive additional Sovereign’s Might for meritorious service. Elder Blue possessed more than twenty drops. 18
- Emmanuel began with ten drops but had only three remaining after repeated conflicts and a prior gift to Copperfield. 18
- The patriarchs’ control over this resource gives them substantial authority over elders stationed abroad. 18
Military Strength and Techniques
Bloodline Transformations
Each branch can manifest features of its divine-beast lineage in combat. 41
- Azure Dragon Clan — develops scales and dragon claws. 41
- White Tiger Clan — manifests tiger markings and uses Tiger Roar. 41
- Black Tortoise Clan — enlarges its body and emphasizes defensive abilities. 41 43
- Vermilion Bird Clan — sprouts fiery red wings and employs fire-based attacks. 41 43
Four Divine Beasts Magic Array
The four Sovereigns developed a magic array based on their unique bloodlines, allowing one member to direct the power of the other three while using a single type of Sovereign Power. The array does not truly fuse different types of Sovereign Power. 86 95
- White Tiger Impact — a joint offensive formation that generates vast Dimensional Blades. 86
- Black Tortoise Defense — an earth-based joint barrier capable of blocking an Overlord-level strike. 87
- Vermilion Bird Defense — a fire-based defensive formation used to blunt enemy attacks. 87
- Joint Innate Divine Ability — combines Dragon Roar, Tiger Roar, Bathe in Fire, and Stasis into a time-and-space-affecting attack. 87
- Limitation — despite their bloodlines and array, the four Sovereigns are Low-Sovereigns and remain vulnerable to a true Overlord’s direct attacks outside their combined ability. 86 87
Dragon Transformation Pool
The Dragon Transformation Pool was used to awaken the clan’s Innate Divine Ability. After the clan’s defeat, the Destruction Chief Sovereign seized it, leaving surviving descendants unable to awaken their abilities; even their strongest later talent reached only Four-Star Demon strength after two million years. 110 134
Relationships
- Four Divine Beasts Sovereigns — the clan’s ancestors and ultimate foundation: Reding, Lierus, Nimo, and Bowen. Their deaths removed the clan’s protection and triggered its collapse. 71 91 99
- Ren — principal enemy after he killed Emmanuel’s divine clone and Conofier, then destroyed the clan’s expeditionary force at Tamojin Lake. 26 41 43
- Augusta Clan — rival Sovereign clan. The two families previously neared an Asura War while contesting their standing as the strongest clan in the divine planes. 28 40
- Eight Great Clans — enemies who exploited the Sovereigns’ fall to hunt, besiege, and annihilate the clan’s remaining Divine Realm forces. 99 102 110
- Destruction Chief Sovereign Uterede — secretly researched the clan’s bloodline techniques, captured surviving High-Gods, and took the Dragon Transformation Pool after the final battle. 103 110 138
- Venna Clan — a long-oppressed enemy that immediately mobilized for total war after learning of the Four Divine Beasts Sovereigns’ fall. 29 99
Story Role / Major Arcs
Conflict with Ren
Alfred deliberately involved the clan in his revenge against Ren, believing its arrogant members would pursue a valuable treasure without hesitation. Emmanuel and honorary elder Conofier subsequently confronted Ren at Tamojin Lake, demanding submission and threatening those around him. 18 23
Ren killed Conofier and destroyed Emmanuel’s divine clone despite their attempts to intimidate him with the clan’s name. Gaia and Tia treated this as an intolerable insult to the family’s honor and assembled a retaliation force. 26 27
Tia led seven Asuras and thirty Seven-Star Demon elders to the Bifu Continent. The force was decisively defeated at Tamojin Lake after Ren became a Paragon Highgod, with numerous elders and honorary elders killed. 29 31 41 43
The Sovereigns' Campaign
After the defeat at Tamojin Lake, the Four Divine Beasts Sovereigns returned to direct clan affairs. Mirna’s ability strengthened their soul foundations, enabling their combined Innate Divine Ability to be used twice in succession. 71
The four Sovereigns plotted to kill Overlords and seize their Divine Sparks, first targeting Water Overlord Tilly and later Wind Overlord Diya. Their attempt against Diya was disrupted by Augusta, whose Supreme Artifact broke their defenses and wounded them. 71 85 86 88
While fleeing Augusta, the Four Divine Beasts encountered Ren. Ren used Water Domain to defeat Augusta temporarily and killed Reding, Lierus, Nimo, and Bowen, collecting their Sovereign Sparks and corpses for their Essence Blood. 89 91
Fall of the Clan
News of the Sovereigns’ deaths removed the clan’s deterrent power. The Venna Clan and other hostile factions began attacking its strongholds across the divine planes, killing elders and ordinary members alike. 99 100
The survivors concentrated at the Heavenly Sacrifice Mountain Range, where the Eight Great Clans arranged a siege. Although Blood Peak Sovereign Pash forbade the attackers from entering the mountain range for one million years, the clan’s forces ultimately emerged to fight. 103 104 106
Gus, Tia, and Morey sacrificed themselves during the final battle, but the Eight Great Clans annihilated nearly all remaining members. Uterede later collected the Dragon Transformation Pool and several surviving High-Gods. 110
Gaia and Mori escaped with a small remnant, but their lineage could not recover without the Dragon Transformation Pool. Linley and Bebe eventually defeated the two remaining Asuras, ending the clan’s existence in the Divine Realm. 134 138
