Background and History

Captain of the Rocks Pirates

Rocks ruled Hachinosu Island as captain of the Rocks Pirates. He recruited formidable pirates and sought unusual powers, personally inviting Dimon after learning that the brewer could create the Elixir of Immortality 4 5.

His crew expanded rapidly through the Davy Back Fight, forcibly taking members from rival crews. Although the method created a powerful force, it also bred distrust, poor cohesion, and infiltrators such as CP0 agent Silver Axe 36 199.

Rocks led the crew in abducting two Celestial Dragons at Sabaody Archipelago, demanding Devil Fruits as ransom. He fought Garp directly, but ordered a retreat rather than risk Marine reinforcements arriving 7 8. After receiving the ransom fruits, he and several core crew members became immortal through Dimon’s elixir 11.

God Valley and Imprisonment

Rocks gathered his crew to invade God Valley, publicly citing six powerful Devil Fruits as the prize while apparently pursuing another objective connected to what had been taken from him 22 23 27. The operation ended in the Rocks Pirates’ defeat and disbandment; Rocks himself was captured after the World Government’s trap at God Valley 27 199.

The World Government erased public discussion of Rocks and imprisoned him beneath Pangea Castle. Seastone swords pierced his body, his limbs were repeatedly severed, and his regeneration was deliberately delayed through a seven-day torture cycle 36 53.

Dimon located him during an initial infiltration of Pangea Castle, but the Five Elders’ intervention prevented an escape. Rocks used his remaining strength to suppress Saint Gorosei and create what he believed was an opening for Dimon to flee 53 54.

Liberation and New Allegiance

Sixteen years after his capture, Dimon returned to Pangea Castle, converted Rocks into a demonic subordinate, and restored his body. Rocks immediately broke free of his chains and fought the Five Elders during the escape 156 157.

Following his release, Rocks declined to rebuild the Rocks Pirates. He acknowledged that forcing people into his crew and binding them through oaths had been a mistake, since loyalty could not be compelled 158.

He instead worked alongside Dimon and Kaido, traveled to Elbaf, fought Harald for ten days, and continued seeking ways to oppose Imu and the Celestial Dragons 159 166 230. Dimon later appointed him as the Five Elders’ Minister of Environment 319.

Appearance

Rocks is a burly, imposing man with a rugged face and an oppressive presence. His hair is black and white; it was once described as coarse, puffed braids, while later appearances show it as long and disheveled 4 325.

Personality

Rocks is ambitious, aggressive, and openly drawn to power. He targeted Celestial Dragons for Devil Fruits, wanted to recruit Harald into his crew, and once dreamed of becoming King of the World 5 11 218.

He is also confrontational and battle-hungry. Rocks readily challenged Harald, dismissed a request to avoid fighting, and treated his newly awakened Devil Fruit as an opportunity to test himself against the Marines 166 168 254.

His imprisonment changed his view of leadership. Rather than revive the Rocks Pirates after his release, he admitted that his coercive methods had invited betrayal 158. His hatred of the Celestial Dragons remained intact, driven by God Valley’s destruction, the loss of the Davy Clan, and uncertainty over his wife Alice’s fate 168 223.

Despite his harshness, Rocks showed genuine concern for Dimon during the failed rescue attempt and later regarded him as his great benefactor 54 158.
