Background / History

Malcanthet is a first-generation Tanar'ri and succubus personally created by the Queen of Chaos. Though born with immense power, she rose from a precarious position: succubi were commonly treated as playthings by stronger demons and were considered ill-suited to battle. Malcanthet sought to elevate her race rather than accept that status. 1157

She survived the ancient struggle for the title of Succubus Queen, in which first-generation succubi slaughtered one another for dominance. Her chief rivals included Shami-Amour, Xinivrae, and Lynkhab. Malcanthet killed and absorbed multiple first-generation succubi during this era, making such absorption central to her rise. 1153 1237

Malcanthet became Demogorgon's lover after Shami-Amour, then maneuvered Demogorgon into believing that Shami-Amour had exploited him. Demogorgon imprisoned Shami-Amour in the Well of Darkness, allowing Malcanthet to secure the Razor Throne and become Succubus Queen. Malcanthet later betrayed Demogorgon as well, and his downfall was largely attributed to her actions. 1152 1153 822

As queen, she built Shendilavri into a power base protected by disciplined forces, intelligence networks, and her thirteen Radiant Sisters. Her initial response to the awakening of Kardum—later revealed to be Solam in a demon lord's body—was to send Xianna to eliminate him before the Abyss's favor could make him stronger. 1158 1159

Appearance

Malcanthet is a voluptuous succubus of overwhelming supernatural allure. Before her transformation, she is depicted with curved horns, long dark hair, fiery eyes, broad bat-like wings, and a long flat tail ending in a hooked barb. She commonly wears close-fitting silk ceremonial robes and carries her whip. 1157

After drawing power from the Pearl of Greed, her form becomes markedly more regal and frightening. Her hair becomes purple, a second crown-like set of horns grows behind her ears, and her bat wings transform into purple-feathered wings filled with moving eyes. 1232

  • Her beauty naturally reflects the ideal type perceived by an observer. 1155
  • Her transformed presence inspires worship and fear rather than mere lust. 1232 1334
  • The many eyes in her wings can induce terror in those they observe. 1232
  • In battle, she is surrounded by purplish-red fallen radiance and carries a golden whip and a purple-glowing scythe. 1255

Personality

Malcanthet is an extreme hedonist who values beauty, pleasure, and excitement. She usually avoids expressions of uncontrolled rage because she considers them unbeautiful, and she prefers indirect schemes, seduction, and capable servants over personally enduring a dangerous battle. 1177 1190 1227 1288

Despite her cruelty toward enemies and disposable followers, she displays unusual attachment to succubi. She considers them her children, protects male succubi despite their low status among their own kind, and grieves sincerely when a Radiant Sister dies. 1157 1166 1194

Her affection is paired with possessiveness and favoritism. She comforts Xianna, tolerates her imperfections, and repeatedly elevates her above the other Radiant Sisters, provoking their jealousy. 1158 1159

Malcanthet recognizes her own shortcomings in direct warfare. After difficult battles, she concludes that she needs a general to fight on her behalf; nevertheless, her transformation and growing ambition gradually make her more decisive and politically calculating. 1278 1376 1457

Abilities & Skills

Seduction and Enchantment

Malcanthet's beauty and gaze can break an enemy's will and turn victims into obedient toys. Her allure is so overwhelming that lesser succubi collapse into a dazed state merely from her arrival. 1157 1192

  • Her charm is a natural quality rather than an ability she must consciously activate. 1155
  • She can project seductive, pure, or sacred impressions according to the observer's desires. 1155
  • Her post-Pearl transformation strengthens her seductive powers to the point that she is described as able to distort reality through them. 1334
  • Her wings' eyes can drive demons who meet their gaze into madness and desire. 1255

Eye of Stasis

A power gained after her transformation, the Eye of Stasis is projected through the eyes on Malcanthet's wings. 1256

  • Freezes the surrounding world in a state resembling Time Stop. 1256
  • Is distinct from actual time magic; demon lords are immune to Time Stop. 1256
  • Used to counter Yeenoghu's repeated charge attack. 1256

Void Rays

Malcanthet can form purple vortices around her wings and fire brilliant blue rays drawn directly from the void. 1256

  • The rays possess sufficient destructive force to reduce struck demons to ash. 1256
  • Used alongside her whip and scythe during her assault on Yeenoghu. 1256

Political and Military Power

Malcanthet commands one of the Abyss's largest and most organized military structures. She can gather millions of demons and, if fully mobilized, potentially raise an army exceeding ten million. 1204

  • The Radiant Sisters command thirteen legions and serve as strategists, priests, seducers, and commanders. 1157 1159
  • Soulstealers act as exceptional spies, seducers, and assassins capable of compromising enemy leadership. 1157
  • Her all-male succubus army is among the foundations of her power and has secretly conquered planes in her name. 1166
  • She increasingly imposes discipline on her forces, believing organized armies superior to chaotic mobs. 1167 1177

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Lover's Lash — An Adamantine whip made of spiked chains. Wounds inflicted by it cannot heal through ordinary means; only Miracle or Wish can remove them. 1157
  • Scythe — A scythe that emits purple light, used alongside her whip in battle against Yeenoghu. 1255
  • Pearl of Greed — Its absorbed power triggers Malcanthet's major transformation and remains only partially digested, promising further growth. 1233
  • Sifk's Stone — A gemstone containing the power of a Lomara demon lord; Malcanthet offers it to Solam as part of an alliance proposal. 1237

  • Xianna — A favored Radiant Sister whose soul Malcanthet claimed and remade; Malcanthet tasks her with eliminating Kardum and protects her despite her flaws. 1159
  • Eluvia — A favored daughter valued for her intelligence and counsel, even after she fails to capture Solam. 1178 1190
  • Solam — Initially targeted through Xianna after his emergence as Kardum; later becomes an uneasy ally and intimate partner. Their alliance is repeatedly strained by mutual suspicion but proves decisive against stronger rivals. 1159 1274 1338 1376
  • Yeenoghu — Enemy demon lord. Malcanthet weakens his territorial control through a strike on his planar node and battles him directly. 1255 1256
  • Graz'zt — Long-standing rival and enemy. Though both occasionally exploit the same conflicts, their rivalry escalates into repeated attacks on Shendilavri. 1228 1339 1342
  • Obox-ob — Rival connected to the Pearl of Greed; Malcanthet fights him over the artifact and later attacks his lair while he is absent. 1228 1388
  • Baphomet — Ally whose conflict with Yeenoghu helps prevent Graz'zt from directly attacking Shendilavri. 1228
