Background
Paragus learned that his newborn son Broly possessed a combat power of 10,000 and immediately viewed him as the key to becoming the strongest Saiyan and conquering the universe. When warned that King Vegeta intended to kill Broly, he rushed to the royal palace and begged for his son's life, offering to train Broly into a warrior for the royal family. King Vegeta rejected the plea and blasted Paragus away. 1
He survived Planet Vegeta's destruction alongside Broly and Wang Yang. Broly's spontaneously manifested green barrier protected all three from the planet's annihilation, after which they drifted through space until reaching a life-bearing blue-green planet. 2 3
On the new planet, Paragus repeatedly clashed with Wang Yang. He resented Wang Yang's superior birth power and intended to turn both Wang Yang and Broly into subordinates for his planned universal conquest. Wang Yang opposed Paragus's preferred method of conquest—slaughtering civilians—and prevented him from massacring an army after Paragus executed the planet's tyrant ruler. 4 5
After occupying the planet, Paragus governed erratically, neglected state affairs, and focused on forcing Broly's training. Servants who displeased him could be killed, leaving the War King—later War Emperor—fearful of serving as his steward. 6
During a full moon, Paragus transformed into a Great Ape and fought Wang Yang. Wang Yang overpowered him, tore off his tail, and left him severely wounded. Paragus later recovered and attempted to reclaim Broly, but Broly protected him from Wang Yang's Ki Blast; Paragus was ultimately unable to remove Broly from Wang Yang's supervision. 7 10 11
When Linge's group arrived with a spacecraft, Paragus joined their faction while secretly treating the ship as his opportunity to escape the planet. He persuaded Broly to assassinate Linge, secured the surviving crew's loyalty, and lied that Wang Yang had chosen not to leave. Paragus then departed with Broly, deliberately leaving Wang Yang behind. 12 13 14
Personality
Paragus is ambitious, resentful, and intensely conscious of power. His own relatively low combat power fuels his jealousy of Wang Yang and frustration at being surpassed by both children. He sees Broly's strength as the foundation of his personal ambitions and repeatedly seeks to control or isolate him. 4 6 11
Despite treating Broly as a weapon, Paragus also shows genuine paternal attachment. Broly is described as both his hope and emotional support, and Paragus takes joy in Broly calling him “Daddy.” His affection, however, is consistently entangled with manipulation, including deceiving Broly into killing Linge and leaving Wang Yang behind. 4 13 14
