Background / History

Meeting Wang Yang

Bulma first meets Wang Yang at a restaurant on Earth, where he recognizes her after she mentions Son Goku. She initially declines his attempt to get acquainted because she has a boyfriend, but becomes deeply interested when Wang Yang produces a rare cosmic alloy with potential research value. 24 25

After Wang Yang offers further extraterrestrial materials in exchange for three meals a day, Bulma accepts the arrangement. She challenges him to win the World Martial Arts Tournament before she will consider becoming his girlfriend. 25

She brings Wang Yang to her home, where Mrs. Briefs immediately mistakes him for her new boyfriend. Bulma then accompanies him to the tournament, introduces him as a friend, and asks him to retrieve a little girl's balloon. 26

World Martial Arts Tournament

Bulma learns from Wang Yang that Goku is a Saiyan named Kakarot and is fascinated by his descriptions of alien life and the wider universe. 27

After Gohan is taken away, Bulma changes course and brings Wang Sheng to Kami's Lookout for training, recognizing that he needs strength before the arriving Saiyans attack Earth. 37 40

During the battle against Vegeta and Nappa, Bulma watches Wang Sheng through Fortuneteller Baba's crystal ball and becomes furious upon discovering that Wang Yang and Goku have been observing the children’s fight from nearby. She later travels to the battlefield, where Wang Yang explains that Wang Sheng and Gohan have fused into Wu Sheng. 43 49
