Background / History

Obito entered Konoha's Ninja Academy alongside Kakashi, Rin, Guy, and their future classmates. He introduced himself with a loud declaration that he would become Hokage, despite being regarded as a poor student; his Clone Technique produced two unstable, malformed clones. 7 8

Having lost his parents young, Obito received little support within the Uchiha clan and was routinely called the clan's “dead-last” by its elders. He nevertheless remained determined to become Hokage, often competing with Guy over the same ambition. 19 177

He brought Guy to the Uchiha compound and introduced him to his second uncle, Uchiha Tao Ye, enabling Guy to work at the Uchiha Forge. Obito defended Guy when Tao Ye initially dismissed him, and later witnessed Guy earn Tao Ye's respect through his forging work. 19 20

Despite his recklessness, he is deeply compassionate. He worries intensely about Rin, volunteers to care for her when Kakashi is unable to accompany them, and accepts severe personal costs when he believes they will protect her. 357 368 371 His instinct to help others can also make him idealistic; Guy has to caution him against offering Konoha Orphanage's resources to unknown refugees without considering the risks to the children already living there. 388

The suffering he witnesses in the Land of Rice Fields forces him to confront the limits of simple idealism.
