After comforting his friends and recommitting himself to protecting those around him, Guy heard Kurenai confess that she liked him.

After the Leaf team killed three Chunin with the Flying Thunder God Technique, Taiseki mistook them for Minato Namikaze and wondered if the name referred to a team rather than one person.

• Kakkō summoned an Earth Dragon, but Guy shattered it with Vajra Leg and knocked Kakkō unconscious with a kick to the shoulder.

Genma summoned Iron-Arm to shield Namiashi Raidō and Tatami Iwashi from Taiseki’s Earth Release attack, revealing the panda’s powerful new bracers. After Taiseki fled, Guy returned with the captured Iwagakure jonin.

• Genma killed an Iwagakure chunin with a Flying Thunder God strike, leaving Taiseki and the last chunin to fight.

Guy’s team captured the remaining Iwagakure forces and returned to report that Kakashi was seeking promotion to jonin. With Kakashi’s twelfth birthday a month away, Guy realized the Battle of Kannabi Bridge was approaching and wondered whether events would unfold as he remembered.

• Guy ordered the battlefield cleaned up, and his team bound four surviving Iwagakure shinobi after defeating the eight-man group.
• Guy sent Ebisu and the others back to camp with the prisoners while he stayed behind to watch Kannabi Bridge and search for the missing Mahiru.

When Mahiru, an Iwagakure jōnin, climbed up onto their side of the cliff, the squad used Guy’s retreat order as an excuse to confront him.

• Guy ordered Ebisu, Genma, Yamashiro Aoba, Namiashi Raidō, and Tatami Iwashi to guard the bridgehead while he raced toward Thundercloud Gorge.
• Ebisu and Genma decided they wanted to leave with the messenger and support Minato’s team, but the messenger reminded them that Guy had ordered them to stay.

• Guy raced from Kannabi Bridge to Thundercloud Gorge and arrived after an explosion had collapsed the gorge.

Guy fought Yugito Nii and Matatabi in the Two-Tails' complete Tailed Beast form, battering the giant demon cat with enormous golden slaps. After Matatabi struck him into the ground, Guy emerged unharmed and prepared a devastating kick from above.

• Yugito Nii called on Matatabi and transformed into the Two-Tails' fifty-meter Tailed Beast form.
• Guy leapt before Matatabi and struck its face with repeated golden palms, knocking away its chakra and shrinking its body.
• Matatabi tried to bite Guy, but he slapped its attacks aside until an involuntary meow escaped the demon cat.

Guy spared Samui and Yugito Nii after realizing Black Zetsu was still a threat, then hurried to reunite with Kakashi and Rin. He found Kakashi wounded and learned that Kirigakure had taken Rin, leaving Guy determined to intervene.

• Samui rescued the unconscious Yugito Nii and cautiously retreated from Guy, who chose not to fight her and left for Kakashi and Rin.
• Katsuyu told Guy that Kakashi and Rin had been attacked, Rin had been taken, and Kakashi was badly wounded.
