Background / History
King Norwick ruled the Guardian Domain on Nul as the King of Warriors, leading the Night Watchers—the planet's most formidable warrior force. He inherited a world divided between the warrior caste and the priestly caste of the City of Truth, whose rivalry had persisted for millennia. 18 20
During the Greenskin siege of the Guardian Domain, Norwick accepted that the defenders were badly outnumbered but chose to lead the remaining Night Watchers into battle himself. He fought beside Royal Grandmaster Swordsman Xilan at the center of the human line. 18 19
When a mysterious machine fell from the sky and annihilated a large portion of the Greenskin force, Norwick reached the surviving infant before High Priest Isaac could. He wrapped the child in his cloak, rejected Isaac's demand to surrender him, and invoked warrior law to claim the infant as battlefield spoils. 20
Norwick named the child Doom Norwick, declared him a prince, and openly envisioned him as the future unifier of Nul. He considered Doom an unprecedented opportunity to break Nul's isolation and reshape humanity's future. 20 22
After the siege, Norwick immediately launched a campaign to exploit the Greenskins' leaderless disorder. He gave exhausted Night Watchers only three minutes to say goodbye before ordering the pursuit, summoned the Wasteland Knights under threat of destruction, and divided his forces into mobile hunting groups. 21
As Doom grew rapidly, Norwick supported his adoption into the royal family and warrior culture. He allowed Doom to prove himself in a deathmatch against a Greenskin, accepted Haran Ogilvy's oath to Doom, and personally taught his son that strength was necessary to resist those who would control his future. 24 27 28
Norwick later investigated Doom's arrival, connecting the infant's pod, Warp energy, Isaac's prophecy, and the interference of unknown gods. His search drew the attention of Tzeentch, whom he confronted without submission; Norwick refused the god's offer of answers because he believed further knowledge could be used to mislead him. 29 30
The Chaos Gods subsequently targeted Norwick as the chief obstacle to claiming Doom. Their psychic assault left him increasingly frail, but he continued to resist them while buying time for Doom to mature. 31 43
When his condition became critical, Norwick invested Doom as Warlord and gave him command of half the Night Watchers to finish the Orc war. He assigned Ennio Norwick the other half to blockade the City of Truth, recognizing the priests as the immediate threat behind his curse. 42 43
Before Doom departed, Norwick secretly instructed Haran Ogilvy to kill Doom should Doom ever turn to the gods and threaten Nul. The arrangement was hidden behind multiple protective barriers and psionic intervention, with a Psionic Master sacrificing himself to preserve the secret. 44
Appearance
King Norwick is an exceptionally imposing warrior-king, nearly three meters tall and built with a massive, powerful frame. He is commonly seen in heavy power armor and a royal cloak. 18 24
- Ancient pitch-black armor during the Greenskin siege. 18
- Dark-green power armor with a jet-black, gold-trimmed cloak when he returned to the arena. 24
- Broad shoulders and a stern, square face capable of rare tenderness toward Doom. 20 28
- Wears a crown as monarch of the Guardian Domain. 18 20
- His physical condition deteriorates drastically after the gods begin corrupting his mind and soul. 42 43
Personality
Norwick is decisive, disciplined, and willing to impose harsh demands when Nul's survival requires them. His order for battle-weary Night Watchers to begin a new campaign after only three minutes of farewell demonstrates both his severity and his conviction that hesitation would endanger humanity. 21
He possesses unusual intellectual courage. Rather than dismissing the strange circumstances surrounding Doom's arrival, Norwick investigates them methodically; when confronted by Tzeentch, he remains composed and refuses to let curiosity become a weakness. 29 30
As Doom's adoptive father, Norwick is deeply affectionate but never indulgent. He accepts Doom's extraordinary nature, assures him that he can choose how to live, and teaches him that strength is the means by which one preserves the freedom to choose. 22 28
Abilities & Skills
Master Warrior
Norwick is regarded across Nul as an invincible warrior and the youngest monarch in the Guardian Domain's history. Before becoming King of Warriors, he completed numerous warrior trials and defeated every legendary challenger available to him. 20
- Fought directly against the Greenskins during the siege rather than commanding from safety. 18 19
- Coordinated seamlessly with Xilan while fighting in the center of the Night Watcher formation. 19
- His personal strength is considered sufficient to deter Isaac from challenging him to a formal duel. 20
Strategic Command
Norwick commands the Night Watchers with a long-term view of Nul's survival rather than immediate comfort or political convenience. 21 43
- Exploited the Greenskins' collapse after the meteor impact by launching an immediate pursuit. 21
- Ordered dispersed, flexible formations to hunt scattered enemy groups. 21
- Pressured the Wasteland Knights to join the war within forty-eight hours. 21
- Divided the army between Doom's Orc campaign and Ennio's blockade of the City of Truth. 43
Investigation and Mental Resistance
Norwick is capable of tracing hidden connections between disparate events and maintaining composure in the face of Warp phenomena. 29 30
- Deduced that Doom's pod used Warp energy to penetrate Nul's Dimensional Shield. 29
- Identified Isaac and the gods as connected to Doom's arrival and the threat against him. 29 30
- Broke through Tzeentch's frightening illusions by recognizing them as attempts to unsettle him. 29
- Continues to resist the Four Chaos Gods' psychic corruption despite severe physical decline. 43
