Background / History

Orochimaru was one of Konoha's Legendary Sannin and a former disciple of the Third Hokage, Hiruzen Sarutobi. He had once guided Minato Namikaze during Minato's development and nearly became his teacher before Jiraiya accepted Minato as a disciple. 20

He became a Reincarnator during the Dressrosa mission, where he immediately distinguished himself by analyzing Doflamingo's mission structure and coordinating the group’s strategy. After witnessing the scale of the myriad worlds, he concluded that the Ninja World was insignificant by comparison and saw the Main God Space as the means to pursue power, knowledge, and immortality. 5 8

After returning, Orochimaru uploaded his accumulated ninjutsu and self-developed techniques for 3,000 points. He then exchanged for the Eye of Keikogi (Inferior), choosing to strengthen himself before directly pursuing an immortality exchange. 8 9

His human experimentation was exposed in Konoha. Orochimaru admitted that he had used missing village ninja as research material, while also claiming that Konoha’s upper ranks had long known of his work and benefited from it—particularly Danzō Shimura's Sharingan-transplanted arm. He renounced Konoha and escaped Hiruzen and the Anbu through the Main God Space's Negacion teleportation service, after which he was classified as an S-rank missing-nin. 11 20

Appearance

Orochimaru is shown primarily in attire suited to research and seclusion, including a white laboratory coat in his Main God Space laboratory and a plain robe after his Legendary-rank breakthrough. 20 205

  • Maintains a large, high-tech personal laboratory containing experimental equipment, preserved tissues, and organs. 20
  • His Moon Otogakure training facility is secured by silver metal doors and attended by numerous subordinates. 205

Personality

Orochimaru is driven by an obsessive pursuit of knowledge, power, and immortality. The Main God Space expands this ambition from forbidden ninjutsu into the study of souls, artificial life, arcane systems, divine authority, and the laws governing different worlds. 8 49 407

He is analytical and pragmatic in dangerous situations. During missions, he rapidly assesses opponents, delegates tasks, prepares contingencies, and treats unfamiliar powers as phenomena to be understood rather than mysteries to be feared. 5 46 47 163

His methods are frequently unethical. He views human bodies as viable research material and proposes creating disposable Parasyte-based combatants from ordinary humans. However, he also shows selective care toward his creations and followers, including Mitsuki, Kimimaro, and his subordinates. 20 45 71 205

After reaching Legendary rank, Orochimaru becomes notably more restrained and humble. Rather than claiming mastery, he describes himself as merely taking one step ahead on the path toward truth. 205

Abilities & Skills

Eye of Keikogi

Orochimaru acquired the C-rank Perfect Eye of Keikogi (Inferior) from the Main God Space, then upgraded it into the B-rank Perfect Eye of Keikogi: Pseudo. 9 48

  • Can copy techniques and abilities beneath the fourth tier. 48

  • Cannot copy abilities requiring a particular bloodline, constitution, Devil Fruit, or innate magical talent. 48

Arcane Arts

By the battle against Six Paths Madara, Orochimaru was an advanced third-rank, ninth-level arcanist specializing in elemental and necromantic magic. 163

  • Used void gates to evade Madara's Sage Art: Storm Release Light Fang. 163
  • Employed arcane satellite systems to monitor the Ninja World from the moon. 203
  • Used arcane formations to study Kaguya Otsutsuki's seal and the principles underlying chakra and Yin-Yang Release. 203
  • Reached Legendary rank by achieving a qualitative shift in his understanding of reality and the Ninja World's fundamental laws. 203 205
  • Later became an upper fourth-tier demigod Arcane Mage. 407

Artificial Life and Biological Research

Orochimaru uses Main God Space creation authority, biological experimentation, and knowledge gathered across worlds to create artificial beings and combat vessels. 20 45 49

  • Created Mitsuki through the Main God's life-creation authority. 20
  • Developed Parasyte-based combatants capable of reaching first-tier high-level strength for 500 points, though they lack independent consciousness. 45

  • Transferred his soul into Kinomata Orochi through the Soul Splitting Technique. 49
  • Operated multiple independently conscious clones that shared one spiritual origin. 163
  • Maintained clones following separate cultivation paths: one focused on the soul, while another tempered its body through the Gene Lock system. 163
  • Lost two intermediate third-rank clones during the battle with Six Paths Madara. 163

Reishi Research

Orochimaru developed technology and theory for interacting with Soul Society's spiritual matter. 46

  • Created an improved Reishi Converter that transforms physical bodies and internal energy into spirit-form Reishi. 46
  • Distinguished Reishi as a purer, more concentrated soul-based energy than chakra, while recognizing that neither system is fundamentally superior. 46
  • Infiltrated the Soul Society's Department of Research and Development to obtain soul-research technology and samples. 46 47

Story Role / Major Arcs

Dressrosa Mission

Orochimaru awakens in Dressrosa alongside Ay, Kisame, Pakura, and Kitsuchi. He identifies Doflamingo as the central obstacle, deduces that the group is likely too weak to kill him directly, and helps disrupt Doflamingo's attempt to become king by impersonating him and publicly exposing the coup. 5 7

Defection from Konoha

Following the exposure of his experiments, Orochimaru openly severs his ties to Konoha and escapes through Negacion. His departure establishes him as an S-rank missing-nin and enables him to pursue research without village restraint. 11

Soul Society Expedition

Orochimaru recruits Minato for an operation targeting artificial-human and soul-modification research in the Soul Society. He develops the Reishi Converter, directs the infiltration of the Department of Research and Development, and confronts Aizen's forces. 20 46 47

Aizen traps Orochimaru, Minato, and Pakura in crystals within an extradimensional space. Orochimaru ends the World Training Card session to escape, then pays 12,000 points for restoration, including the removal of Complete Hypnosis and foreign Hollow energy from his soul. 49

Kinomata Orochi and the Sound Ninja Village

Orochimaru creates Kinomata Orochi as a near-perfect vessel and transfers his soul into it. The vessel possesses Hashirama cells, Uchiha genes, Wood Release, and the Sharingan. 49 50

He establishes the Sound Ninja Village in the Land of Fields as a base for his activities, though it initially remains a small settlement of only a few dozen ninja and civilians. 50

Six Paths Madara Mission

Orochimaru fights Six Paths Madara for hours, using clones, Flying Thunder God, concealment, and arcane methods to avoid annihilation. He sacrifices two clones, including one to destroy the moon that empowered Madara's Infinite Tsukuyomi, buying time for Minato and Kushina to recover. 163

Moon Seclusion and Legendary Breakthrough

After relocating to the moon and peacefully incorporating its inhabitants, Orochimaru studies Kaguya Otsutsuki's seal and chakra's underlying laws. This research leads to his breakthrough into Legendary rank and the fourth tier. 203 205

Truth Association and Artificial Deity Research

Orochimaru establishes Arcane City on Arcane Star, where the Truth Association is headquartered. He and Dr. Gray conduct research into creating gods and studying divine laws. 406

In Azeroth, Orochimaru leads Reincarnators against Deathwing while secretly arranging for the cured Neltharion to cooperate in a godhood experiment. With Rick, he plans to cultivate intelligent life in a compressed, time-accelerated ecosystem to generate the faith needed to ignite Neltharion's divine fire. 407
