Background / History
Doflamingo sought to reclaim what the Donquixote Family had lost after abandoning its Celestial Dragon status and Dressrosa's throne eight centuries earlier. He arranged a false pirate crisis, offered King Riku protection for ten billion Berries, then used his strings to force the king to attack his own citizens and discredit the Riku family. 5 6
Orochimaru exposed the coup by impersonating Doflamingo and publicly confessing to the scheme. Doflamingo retaliated with the Birdcage and inflicted heavy collateral damage while pursuing the reincarnators, but the group escaped. The failed plot cost him family officers, his Warlord position, and brought Vice Admiral Tsuru's pursuit. 7 8 21
Selected as a Reincarnator, Doflamingo infiltrated Amegakure to seize the Demonic Statue of the Outer Path. He was outmatched by Pain's Six Paths and sealed by Chibaku Tensei, but returned with Main God rewards, renewed confidence, and the Mystic Eyes of Death Perception. 22 23 24
He created an artificial King Riku Dold III loyal only to himself, used him to secure Dressrosa, and eliminated the underworld figures Yiwen and Piccro. Doflamingo subsequently turned Dressrosa's government and population toward acquiring Devil Fruits, rare swords, and resources for the Donquixote Family. 24 25
Appearance
Doflamingo is a three-meter-tall man whose theatrical appearance reinforces his oppressive presence. He commonly wears a pink feather coat and heart-shaped sunglasses. 31 85
- Pink feather coat over a black shirt, red tie, and white trousers. 85
- Heart-shaped sunglasses, which conceal his Mystic Eyes until he removes them. 24 245
- Mystic Eyes with black sclera, white pupils, and shifting line-like or indigo patterns when activated. 24 245
Personality
Doflamingo is arrogant, calculating, and intensely ambitious. He treats people—including allies, civilians, and artificial lifeforms—as pieces in a larger plan to become the world's ruler. 24 25 304
He takes visible pleasure in slaughter and coercion, using Parasite to force enemies to kill one another and taunting opponents while they suffer. 244 245 His defeats do not make him cautious or humble; instead, they reinforce his conviction that he is chosen to stand above others. 24
Abilities & Skills
String-String Fruit
Doflamingo produces and controls invisible or white strings for offense, movement, restraint, defense, and environmental manipulation. His awakened Devil Fruit can convert terrain and structures into strings. 7 22
- Fires cutting attacks such as Bullet String, Air String, and thread barrages capable of slicing opponents and vehicles apart. 7 112 244
- Uses Parasite to invade a target's body and manipulate it like a puppet. 22 86 244
- Creates string constructs, including shields, decoys, nets, ribbons, and a false body used to mislead Pain. 7 22
- Moves through the air by anchoring strings and can use them to evacuate or cushion large groups of people. 30
- Forms the island-scale Birdcage, then compresses it to cut through buildings and trapped inhabitants. 7 8
- His awakened terrain manipulation consumes substantial stamina and Haki over extended use. 23
- Parasite cannot control Pain's Six Paths because they are corpses controlled externally as puppets. 22
- The Earthquake Catfish's vibrations pulverized his threads, exposing a direct counter to large-scale string attacks. 30
Haki
Doflamingo possesses all three forms of Haki and uses them alongside his strings. 22 24
- Observation Haki — Detects hidden opponents, incoming attacks, and danger; later develops reliable precognitive perception. 7 22 232
- Armament Haki — Reinforces his body, strings, and defenses; he used it to catch Orochimaru's Kusanagi Sword and block Hidan's scythe. 7 244
- Conqueror's Haki — Emits overwhelming pressure that can incapacitate civilians, intimidate opponents, and reinforce his commanding presence. 7 85
Mystic Eyes of Death Perception
Doflamingo obtained the Mystic Eyes from the Main God Space after becoming a Reincarnator. They reveal the Lines and Points of Death embedded in people and objects. 24
- Can sever a target's Lines of Death through string-like manipulation, killing Yiwen and Piccro. 24
- Helped him destroy the weakened Earthquake Catfish after other combatants damaged it. 31
- Evolved into A-rank eyes that perceive the root of death rather than only surface-level lines. 245
- Forced Hidan into repeated death and resurrection by severing his Line of Death despite the Ajin Bloodline's revival effect. 245
- Exerts a severe mental burden; targeting stronger opponents can consume Doflamingo's life force. 31 245
Soul and Spatial Threads
Doflamingo developed specialized thread applications beyond physical combat.
- Soul Threads form a blue defensive shield against soul-based attacks. 304
- Uses spatial threads to open portals across long distances. 345
- His later mastery of manipulation rules strengthens his precognition and allows him to interfere with an opponent's ability to perceive their own future. 304 345
Perennial Youth
Doflamingo used Main God resources to obtain an Op-Op Fruit, then had his artificial King Riku develop it sufficiently to perform the Perennial Youth Operation on him. 234
- Gained an infinite lifespan. 234
- Became one of two immortal Celestial Dragons, satisfying a key condition for using Uranus. 234
