Background / History

Tai Yi was one of the leading figures of the Demon Race alongside Di Jun. Following the Ancestral Witches' defeat of Di Jun and the Eastern Emperor, the two became a major opposing force to the Witch Race. 1

His standing was damaged when Di Jun's failed governance of the Demon Race was contrasted with Zhu Jiuyin's achievements; both Tai Yi and Di Jun suffered shattered Dao hearts from the comparison. 60 Hongjun's appointment of Eastern Duke and the Queen Mother of the West as leaders of the immortals further provoked Tai Yi and the Demon Race. 60 61

After Fuxi confronted the Demon Race over its accumulated wrongdoing, Tai Yi attacked him with the Chaos Bell. Fuxi neutralized the assault through his perfected Law of Deduction, and subsequently defeated Tai Yi with a single palm strike after Tai Yi exhausted his power. 112 113 Fuxi then compelled Tai Yi and Di Jun to accept the Demon Race Law Enforcement Hall, reducing their exclusive authority. 114

Tai Yi later abdicated alongside Di Jun as Fuxi became the Demon Race's de facto leader. 120 After attaining the Hunyuan Dao, Tai Yi and Di Jun attempted to reclaim influence by demanding a separate Law Enforcement Hall for the Demon Race; faced with Fuxi's allies, they withdrew and settled for a second hall instead. 148 150

When Zhu Jiuyin finally moved to punish them for harming the Primordial World, Tai Yi fought with his full strength, wielding Hunyuan-level True Sun Fire and the Chaos Bell, but was overwhelmed. He and Di Jun chose to swear an oath never to harm the Primordial World again, then departed with Demon Race followers carrying only light Karmic Force. 170

Personality

Tai Yi is volatile, proud, and strongly attached to Demon Race authority. Zhu Jiuyin and Nuwa's union enraged him enough to strike a Demon Saint merely for speaking about it. 81 He also rejected Fuxi's criticism of the Demon Race and immediately answered it with force. 112

His later actions show pragmatism beneath that pride. Although he initially resisted Zhu Jiuyin and Fuxi, he submitted when continued resistance meant certain defeat and ultimately accepted exile rather than death. 113 117 170

Hunyuan Dao Cultivation

Tai Yi attained the Hunyuan Dao alongside Di Jun, restoring him as a major Demon Race power after his earlier loss of influence. 148

• His breakthrough raised the prospect of renewed conflict with Fuxi's leadership. 148

Chaos Bell

Tai Yi wields the Chaos Bell as his primary weapon in combat.
