Background / History

Wu Zhangkong is an instructor at East Sea Academy who oversees Class Zero’s training. When Leng Hanyuan and Gu Yue appeared at the academy track without uniforms, Wu Zhangkong confronted them under school regulations, immediately sensing that the two were unusual. Leng Hanyuan then used subtle spiritual interference to make him contact Dean Yu Zhen. 14

Leng Hanyuan subsequently requested a teaching post in Wu Zhangkong’s class. Wu Zhangkong was surprised by the request but accepted the arrangement after Dean Yu Zhen approved it. 16

He is a disciple of Zhuo Shi. Their past has left Wu Zhangkong with conflicted feelings toward his mentor, while events involving Long Bing inflicted a serious blow on his mental state and impeded his cultivation. 56 101

Personality

Wu Zhangkong is habitually cold, concise, and expressionless. He is socially perceptive despite his aloof manner; when he recognized that Spirit Transmission Pagoda business was being discussed privately, he left without attempting to pry. 29

As a teacher, he prioritizes his students’ moral development. He gave Tang Wulin and Xie Xie a lesson after the incident involving Guang Biao, though the boys trusted Leng Hanyuan’s judgment more strongly than his at the time. 26 27

He is principled in recruitment and mentorship. After Tang Wulin and Xie Xie showed a preference for the Spirit Transmission Pagoda, Wu Zhangkong did not pressure them or reduce the quality of his instruction. 92

He teaches Class Zero about battle armor, manages their regular instruction, and tries to preserve a moral framework for Tang Wulin and Xie Xie following Leng Hanyuan’s intervention against Guang Biao. 20 26 27

Tang Sect Examination

Wu Zhangkong brings Class Zero to the Tang Sect’s Eastsea Soul Guidance Technology Park for their final examinations after obtaining authorization for Leng Hanyuan to accompany them. 52

He later invites Tang Wulin and Xie Xie to join the Tang Sect. Tang Wulin declines because his parents have entered the Spirit Transmission Pagoda and because of his loyalty to Leng Hanyuan. 53 54

Later Training

Wu Zhangkong continues assessing Class Zero’s growth, including Yuanen Yehui’s victory over Tang Wulin’s team and the group’s coordinated defeat of the ten-thousand-year Scarlet Flame Lion King. 87 91

He is unsettled when the group withdraws after the Lion King battle, but Leng Hanyuan notes that Wu Zhangkong is more straightforward and principled than the Shrek Academy figures of the past. 92
