Background / History

Vivi is the princess of the desert kingdom of Alabasta and the daughter of King Cobra. She believes that a ruler should bring peace, hope, and happiness to their people, and she regards protecting Alabasta as her responsibility. 27 31

A year before revealing herself to Rody's group, Vivi and Captain Igaram infiltrated Baroque Works as high-ranking agents. Their investigation began after Dance Powder appeared in Nanohana and fueled public anger and rebellion; they eventually discovered that Crocodile was manipulating Alabasta's civil unrest. 27

After Rody massacres Baroque Works agents at Whiskey Peak, Vivi reveals her identity and asks for his help. Nami negotiates on the group's behalf, and Vivi agrees that Alabasta will pay 1.5 billion Beli if Rody defeats Crocodile and ends the rebellion. 27 28

Vivi travels toward Alabasta with Rody's crew and Karoo. During the voyage, she becomes friends with Nami and accepts delays such as the group's stop at Drum Island, as Alabasta's situation has not yet reached its most urgent point. 29

In Alabasta, Vivi reunites with Toto at the ruins of Yuba and learns more about the devastation caused by Crocodile's actions. The encounter strengthens her determination to see Crocodile defeated. 34

Vivi is compassionate, principled, and deeply devoted to Alabasta. She sees kingship as a duty to protect people rather than a source of personal power, defending her father's character and condemning Wapol's neglect of his citizens. 31

She is also determined and resourceful. Her decision to infiltrate Baroque Works, confront its conspiracy, and hire Rody despite his feared reputation reflects her willingness to take extreme risks for her kingdom. 27 28

Vivi does not share Rody's disregard for human life. She is disturbed by his killings at Rainbase and by the collateral destruction of his fight with Crocodile. 35 37 Nevertheless, she comes to rely on his strength as a safeguard for Alabasta and grows emotionally attached to him. 39 40
