Crocodile was a pirate recognized by the World Government as one of the Seven Warlords of the Sea. The position gave him protection from arrest, freedom from government interference, and immunity for crimes committed before joining, in exchange for answering mandatory summons and surrendering a portion of his earnings. 28

He became the secret boss of Baroque Works and engineered civil unrest in Alabasta. His Utopia Plan centered on seizing the kingdom, locating the ancient weapon Pluton, and using its island-destroying power to pursue the title of Pirate King. 27 36

Crocodile based himself in Rainbase, where he operated a prosperous casino that remained unaffected by Alabasta's drought and rebellion. The public viewed him as a hero for having cleared out pirates, while his organization acted behind the scenes. 35

After receiving intelligence that Rody had eliminated Baroque Works agents at Whiskey Peak and accepted Vivi's contract to kill him, Crocodile remained in Rainbase and awaited Rody's arrival with confidence. 28

Vivi identified Crocodile as the Baroque Works boss who had instigated Alabasta's rebellion through Dance Powder and covert manipulation. 27

Rainbase Confrontation

Crocodile confronted Rody in his Rainbase casino after Rody massacred its occupants and demanded to see him. He offered Rody a place in Baroque Works, but Rody exposed his plan to obtain Pluton and challenged him to a wager. 35 36

Death

Crocodile used the Sand-Sand Fruit's elemental abilities against Rody, but Rody's Armament Haki allowed him to strike Crocodile directly. Rody ended the battle with Haki: Black Flash, splitting Crocodile at the waist. 37 38

Rody subsequently killed him inside Malevolent Shrine, causing the Sand-Sand Fruit to reincarnate into a cactus-shaped Devil Fruit. Crocodile's death removed the mastermind behind Alabasta's unrest and left a vacant Warlord position later offered to Rody. 38 39
