Personality

Kizaru is habitually sarcastic, dismissive, and deliberately provocative. He enjoys humiliating pirates whom he considers unable to resist him, including revealing that Crocodile exposed Luo Ze's location simply to anger Luo Ze further. 130

Although normally lazy and resistant to being overworked, he takes major threats to the Marines seriously when their prestige or personnel are at stake. He defended Marine rear admirals from Luo Ze's attack and later volunteered to investigate the force responsible for attacking Vice Admirals and destroying G-8. 136 263

His conduct changes under mortal pressure. When Luo Ze corners him at G-8, Kizaru chooses escape over fighting beside his subordinates, framing their deaths as a necessary sacrifice for the Marines. This decision destroys the confidence many Marines had placed in him. 272

First clash with Flame Sword Luo Ze

Kizaru tracks Luo Ze to the Ghost Sword after Crocodile reveals Luo Ze's location. He immediately establishes the gap between them by attacking faster than Luo Ze can draw his blade and severely injuring him with an Armament Haki-coated Light-Speed Kick. 130 131

Luo Ze uses Observation Haki to evade subsequent attacks and lands slashes on Kizaru, but Kizaru's advanced Logia elementalization prevents meaningful damage. Kizaru gradually exhausts Luo Ze, who is forced into desperate measures to protect Ellie. 131 132 133

Kizaru later shields Marine rear admirals from Luo Ze's flaming slashes, but cannot prevent their deaths or the destruction of their warship. After Luo Ze's apparent self-destruction, Kizaru searches unsuccessfully for his body and accepts responsibility for the heavy Marine losses. 136 139

G-8 Fortress and Absolute

After Vice Admiral Dalmatian's death and G-8's destruction, Kizaru joins Momousagi in leading a Marine response against the unknown organization. 263 265

At G-8, he battles Big Guy, using his superior speed and attrition tactics to gain the advantage. Luo Ze then appears as Absolute's black-masked leader, overwhelms Kizaru through future sight and superior swordsmanship, and forces him into a choice between fighting and escape. 267 268 270 271

Kizaru flees in light form, abandoning the Marines under his command. His escape damages his standing among both the surviving soldiers and Marine Headquarters. 272 292

Sabaody ambush and death

At Sabaody, Kizaru attacks Rayleigh in an attempt to recover his standing within the Marines. Luo Ze uses the battle as an ambush opportunity, severing Kizaru's right arm with Hundred Ghosts! Thirty-Ghost Instant Strike. 292 294 295

Blocked by Rayleigh, Momousagi, and Big Guy, Kizaru is unable to escape. Big Guy sends him crashing down with a powerful punch, after which Fire Wielder kills him using Melting Flame. 295 296 297
