Background
Luo Ze is a transmigrator who arrived in the pirate world in 1516 of the Age of the Sea and acquired the Swordmaster System. The System periodically assigns missions and rewards their completion with resources that increase his power. By 1518, after two years in the South Blue, he had risen from an inexperienced newcomer to a renowned pirate hunter who had killed several pirates with bounties around 60 million Beli. 1
He chose bounty hunting because it lets him take pirates' wealth while also collecting Marine rewards for their heads. His pursuit of money is directly tied to the System, which requires vast sums of Beli for missions, upgrades, and later point exchanges. 1 6 33
After the Dog Town Marines attacked his ship and attempted to kill him, Luo Ze massacred Colonel Yate, Sergeant Pulian, and the branch's soldiers. He subsequently robbed the branch treasury, using 300 million Beli to complete a System mission and upgrade his attributes. 2 5 6
He commissioned the shipwright Yulis to build the Ghost Sword. During the arrangement, he killed Killer and his crew, rescued Yulis's granddaughter as part of a paid agreement, and later accepted Yulis's request to kill the fish-man ruler Kashal. 12 13 17
At Boke Village, Luo Ze rescued Ellie through a hidden System mission, made her his family, and became her protective older-brother figure. He later left Dog Town with Ellie after the Marines issued a fabricated 100 million Beli bounty against him. 25 33 35 37
Following his continued conflict with the Marines, Luo Ze grew from a lone hunter into the leader of Absolute, a powerful organization composed of allies and recruited captains. He travels aboard the World-Breaking Ship and uses both strength and selective recruitment to build a force capable of challenging the World Government. 223 277 320
During his expedition to Death Island, Luo Ze subdued the Savage Tribe, became its chief, and defeated the kings of several island tribes. He later completed the System's mission there, received five billion Beli, acquired the World-Breaking Ship, and departed with Lili, Big Guy, and Fire Wielder. 186 216 223
Luo Ze subsequently expanded Absolute through alliances, intimidation, and memory alteration performed by his disciple Luo Qi. By the Marineford War, he had become a world-shaking combatant whose actions included killing Aokiji and battling Admiral Fujitora. 314 320 366 369
Appearance
Luo Ze is a tall, muscular man whose physique became noticeably larger through prolonged gravity training. He typically carries a longsword and travels with minimal belongings. 17 23 38
- Has a powerfully built body with clearly defined musculature. 23
- His bloodstained sword and violent presence are frequently noted by opponents. 3 5
- His aura changes sharply when he draws his sword, shifting from a restrained presence to that of a “frenzied beast.” 28
- He is slightly over 1.8 meters tall and remains notably youthful-looking despite being over thirty. 341 349
- As Black Face, he commonly conceals his face behind a black mask and wears red robes. 277 287
- In Demon God Mode, his robes darken, his hair grows to his waist, his eyes turn completely black, and black deathly energy covers his body. 348 349
Personality
Luo Ze values freedom and refuses Marine recruitment despite Rear Admiral Luca's repeated offers. He regards bounty hunting as both profitable work and an outlet for his enjoyment of battle and killing. 8 10
He is ruthless toward enemies, frequently killing opponents who threaten, insult, or inconvenience him. During the destruction of Yate's branch and Kashal's forces, he openly enjoyed slaughter and showed no mercy. 5 29 30
Despite his brutality, Luo Ze is deeply protective of Ellie. He rescues her, accepts her as family, feeds her, reads her stories, teaches her swordsmanship, and kills nobles who bully her. 25 33 35
He is intensely dedicated to self-improvement. He repeatedly trains until collapse under enhanced gravity, recognizes the need to balance swordsmanship, Strength, and Agility, and continuously refines his techniques. 18 21 33 34
Luo Ze follows certain personal principles despite his fearsome reputation. He insists on paying for meals, respects those who have sincerely aided his family, and does not force ordinary subordinates to follow him against their will. 40 223 318
As Absolute's leader, he values capable people and grants his trusted followers considerable autonomy outside missions. However, he rules new or disloyal subordinates through overwhelming fear, torture, and the threat of death. 237 239 304
He is pragmatic rather than blindly reckless. Although he enjoys fighting strong opponents, he weighs risks and avoids challenges he believes he cannot survive, particularly because of his responsibility toward Ellie and later Lili. 95 157 223
