Background / History

The Cultivation World is the lower realm Qin Huaian originally transmigrates into. It contains sects, rogue cultivators, spirit stone mines, demon beasts, immortal cities, and large unexplored regions such as the Boundless Sea 4 5 199.

Older records describe Mahayana and Body Integration cultivators among its major factions. Its history also includes conflict between humans, demons, and devils, as well as cultivators who underwent tribulation and ascended 28 84 221.

More than five thousand years before the main story, the Supreme Purity Domain appeared in the Cultivation World. Around the same time, high-level cultivators either died in accidents or vanished. Within a century, the highest cultivation among those who remained was Spirit Transformation, and no one could break through beyond it despite the world’s spiritual energy remaining unchanged. For the last two thousand years of that period, even records of high-level cultivators described none above Spirit Transformation 28 97 712.

After this shift, spirit stone output from mines gradually declined, especially high-grade spirit stones. Lin Tianyu notes that high-grade spirit stones had not always been rare, implying the world’s resources had deteriorated over time 97.

The appearance of the Supreme Purity Hall inside the Supreme Purity Domain changed the world’s trajectory. When the inheritance space opened, the restraints preventing Spirit Transformation cultivators from advancing disappeared at the same moment, shocking the major sects 71.

A little over ten years after the inheritance appeared, the Boundary Stele manifested in the Cultivation World. It emitted sounds that drew Golden Core and higher cultivators toward it, then activated a teleportation formation that transported them into the “Immortal Realm,” later identified as the Luo River World / Violet Thorn Domain. Qin Huaian later recounted these events more than two hundred years after the inheritance appeared 236 240 712 755.

Cultivation arts and resources can compensate for weaker aptitude to a limited extent. Great clans can use spirit stones and pills to push descendants to late Qi Refinement, but cultivators with mixed spiritual roots generally need an extraordinary opportunity to progress further 4 30.

Resources and access also differ sharply between sect and rogue cultivators. Sects offer channels for obtaining Foundation Establishment Pills, cultivation methods, inheritances, and accumulated cultivation experience that rogue cultivators struggle to access. Many low-level rogue cultivators must devote so much time to earning resources that they neglect combat skills 5 20.

Originally called the Lesser Spirit Realm by the Cultivation World, the Supreme Purity Domain appeared five thousand years before the main story. It was first known as a secret realm that only Qi Refinement cultivators could enter, preventing high-level cultivators from investigating it deeply 84 97.

Its spiritual energy is denser than that of Cloudfield Market. Qin Huaian found that he absorbed spiritual energy about twenty percent faster while cultivating in the sect 26.

Spirit Realm Mountains Valley

The gathering location outside the Supreme Purity Domain’s teleportation passage. Major sects gather here during openings, and the early teleportation of disciples from the Supreme Purity Hall causes widespread alarm 68 71.

Donglai Market and the Boundary Stele Island

The island southeast of Donglai Market became the destination of cultivators seeking the rumored “Immortal Path.” The Boundary Stele there drew Golden Core and higher cultivators from across the world 236 240.

Supreme Purity Domain Incident

When the Supreme Purity Hall appeared, participating Qi Refinement disciples entered an Inheritance Space and climbed a Thousand-Step Staircase. Rewards were granted at the 200th, 400th, 600th, 800th, and 1000th steps 68.

The inheritance event shook the entire Cultivation World because cultivators who reached the 600th step obtained earth-grade cultivation methods. Such methods were normally sect-anchoring treasures of major sects, reserved for direct disciples. Recipients swore Great Dao oaths not to teach their methods to others before reaching Spirit Transformation 70 71.

Higher milestones granted further rewards. Those who reached the 1000th step could receive a lower-grade True Artifact and expanded access to the Supreme Purity Domain 100 171.

The event also coincided exactly with the disappearance of the world’s cultivation restraint, allowing advancement beyond Spirit Transformation again 71.

Relationship with Other Worlds

The Cultivation World was initially believed by its own inhabitants to be the only cultivation realm. Shen Canglan states that throughout its history, there had been no evidence of other Cultivation Worlds or visitors from other realms. The Yellow Mountain Sword Sect’s founder had nevertheless speculated that other worlds might exist 88.

This belief collapses after Qin Huaian encounters cultivators from another world inside the Supreme Purity Domain. Later events reveal that the Supreme Purity Domain connects 108 Cultivation Worlds, each participating in shared inheritance trials 88 151 227 260 712.

Qin Huaian initially takes the Cultivation World to be a minor world after learning that minor worlds rely on major worlds. He later describes the world he came from as a middle thousand world to Supreme Purity True Person; the two descriptions occur at different points in his understanding 489 664.

Outside records in the Luo River World describe Cultivation Worlds as independent lower realms unable to accommodate beings above the immortal level. After ascension tribulation, their cultivators are transported into the Luo River World, regarded by them as the Immortal Realm. A Boundary Stele can open such a passage between realms 258 712 755.

Boundary Stele Event

A little over ten years after the Supreme Purity inheritance appeared, the Boundary Stele manifested in the Cultivation World. Its appearance was accompanied by a sense among cultivators across the world that something momentous was happening 236 712.

Sequence of events:

1. The Boundary Stele appeared on an island southeast of Donglai Market, giving rise to rumors of an “Immortal Path” 236.
2. Music emanating from the area spread across the Cultivation World and induced Golden Core and higher cultivators to travel toward the island. Members of the Demon Race were also affected 240.
3. The compulsion diminished only within roughly a thousand li of the stele; cultivators who left the island felt a strong urge to return 240.
4. A teleportation formation activated on the stele 712.
5. Cultivators of the Golden Core Realm and above were transported into the Luo River World / “Immortal Realm” 236 240 712 755.

The same event appears to have occurred across all 108 Cultivation Worlds connected to the Supreme Purity Domain, sending over a million, and possibly more than two million, cultivators into the Luo River World 712 755. Qin Huaian does not know why this mass transportation occurred. Supreme Purity True Person later suggests that the Boundary Stele’s appearance most likely means something had gone wrong with the world, without establishing what happened 712 664.

Qin Huaian’s encounter with cultivators from another world forces the Cultivation World’s leaders to accept the existence of other Cultivation Worlds. The information prevents sects from escalating into war over Supreme Purity Domain slots, pushing them toward negotiation instead 88 97.

Restoration of the Cultivation Path
