Background / History

Broly arrives on the ruined Earth with his father, Paragus, aboard a spaceship from outside the planet. He is identified as the Z-era version of the Legendary Super Saiyan, whose immense power and emotions are suppressed by a golden circlet operated through Paragus's remote 16.

While restrained, Broly is withdrawn and reluctant to harm anyone without cause. When Paragus orders him to attack Android 18, he initially refuses, saying that she had not harmed him. Paragus responds by activating the circlet, subjecting Broly to intense pain until he obeys 17.

Broly transforms into a Super Saiyan during his battle with Android 18, overloading the control system and breaking free of Paragus's direct control. He and Android 18 fight to a draw before separating; afterward, Broly's power begins escalating without restraint 17 20 23.

Driven by instinct toward strong Saiyan-like energy, Broly pursues Cell from Earth into deep space, through a Demon Realm rift, and across the Demon Realm itself. His repeated battles with Cell continually increase his strength, but Dabura ultimately defeats and buries him beneath the Demon Realm 28 51 52 54.

Broly survives Dabura's assault and recovers at 2 billion combat power. By then he has become fully chaotic, repeatedly mistaking Chen Mo for Kakarot. Chen Mo defeats him, returns him to Earth unconscious, and seals him in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber with supplies and a letter promising information on Kakarot 76 77.

After one year outside—365 years within the chamber—Broly emerges with power exceeding 40 billion. He agrees to delay Cell for Chen Mo, though he remains focused on finding Kakarot. During the ensuing battle, Chen Mo and Android 18 use a Demon Realm sealing artifact to exile both Broly and Cell to deep space 83 84.

Broly is an exceptionally tall pure-blooded Saiyan. Before his long confinement, he is nearly two meters tall and lean rather than bulky; after 365 years in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber, he grows beyond two and a half meters, with heavily exaggerated musculature 16 83.
