Background / History

Bei Bei joined the declining Tang Sect of his own accord and became its eldest senior brother. He helped Tang Ya begin to understand the sect's secret arts, which she had initially struggled to grasp. 11

He and Tang Ya accepted Huo Yuhao into the Tang Sect after learning that Huo was an orphan, despite Huo's limited initial talent. Bei Bei later accompanied Tang Ya and Huo Yuhao into Star Dou Forest to secure their needed soul rings before Shrek Academy's enrollment. 10

Bei Bei is Mu En's great-grandson. Both of his parents died, and Mu En arranged for Zhang Lexuan to become his child bride while Bei Bei was still an infant. Zhang Lexuan subsequently cared for him as an older sister and maternal figure, but Bei Bei came to regard her as family rather than a romantic partner. 10 28 31

Although he was reluctant to use his family's connections, Bei Bei knew that his family had secretly assigned a protector to him. During the Star Dou Forest hunt, he considered that protector's intervention the group's only recourse if an enemy beyond their strength appeared. 10

Following Tang Ya's disappearance and death, Bei Bei devoted himself to cultivation and Tang Sect affairs. With Shrek Academy's assistance, he and Huo Yuhao established a new Tang Sect base in Shrek City within roughly two years of her severed head being displayed at the academy's entrance. 162

Bei Bei accompanies Tang Ya and Huo Yuhao into Star Dou Forest to find suitable spiritual-attribute soul beasts. When a mutilated thousand-year Datura Snake appears, he shields his companions and prepares for the possibility of a stronger pursuer before Jiang Yue reveals that he had been hunting the snake. 10

After Jiang Yue gives the dying Datura Snake to Tang Ya, Bei Bei recognizes Jiang Yue as an extraordinary young Soul Elder and worries for the first-year students who may have to face him at Shrek Academy. 10

Xu Sanshi Soul Fight

When Xu Sanshi provokes Huo Yuhao over grilled fish, Bei Bei intervenes and accepts Xu Sanshi's challenge in the Soul Fighting District. He warns Jiang Yue against betting too heavily, while privately displaying confidence that he can win. 17

With Huo Yuhao's perception-enhancing soul skill supporting him, Bei Bei overwhelms Xu Sanshi from the outset, finds a gap in his defense, and paralyzes him with lightning to secure victory. 18

The defeat increases the pressure on Bei Bei to secure victory in the next tournament. He fears both the public condemnation another loss would bring and the possibility that future opponents will counter his exposed trump cards. His concerns also include entering the Inner Court, Mu En's declining health, and the Tang Sect's seemingly unattainable revival. He hopes to recruit other Reserve Team members, particularly He Caitou, who has shown interest in joining. 99

Tang Ya's Disappearance and Death

After Tang Ya requests withdrawal from Shrek, Mu En instructs Zhang Lexuan to allow her to leave if she remains certain and to inform Bei Bei. Tang Ya subsequently travels to Heaven Dou City, massacres the Iron Blood Sect, and is taken away by a Holy Spirit Cult elder. At Shrek, Bei Bei experiences a sudden sense of dread and decides to go to Heaven Dou City to look for her. 88 99

His search yields neither Tang Ya nor the Tang Sect's former property. Following the Iron Blood Sect's destruction, the Heaven Dou Imperial Family nationalizes the grounds. As Tang Ya's boyfriend rather than her husband, Bei Bei has no legal inheritance claim to the estate. 162

Tang Ya becomes the Holy Spirit Cult's Holy Maiden and is eventually killed by Ye Guyi. Xiao Hongchen then pays Ning Tian and Wu Feng to arrange for her head to be delivered to Shrek's gates, intending to expose the academy's connection to an evil soul master and test the loyalties of those close to her. 119 141 151

Bei Bei and Huo Yuhao rush to the academy entrance when they hear the news. Bei Bei confirms Tang Ya's identity only after seeing her remains himself. The head bears both an intrinsic evil aura and the divine aura left by her killer; an accompanying notice describes her crimes and identifies her as the Holy Spirit Cult's Holy Maiden. Despite this evidence, Bei Bei remains desperate to ask her killer whether she truly fell into evil and committed those murders. 162

Rebuilding the Tang Sect

Roughly two years after Tang Ya's death became known at Shrek, Bei Bei and Huo Yuhao open a new Tang Sect headquarters in Shrek City with academy support. Bei Bei promises to make the sect flourish and uncover the circumstances of Tang Ya's death, even if the effort takes his entire life. 162

The rebuilding effort requires new disciples, technological adaptation, and a solution to the loss of the sect master's hereditary lineage. Bei Bei admits that, with Tang Ya gone, he does not know how future sect masters should be chosen. Huo Yuhao pledges to develop technology combining hidden weapons and soul tools. 162
