Background / History
When the Heavenly Laws began functioning again, the Purple Star Heavenly King learned that Heaven truly still existed. He immediately offered to share the Heavenly Emperor’s burden by enforcing the Heavenly Laws, seeking influence within the restored Heavenly Court order 507.
He initially supported Jiang Changkong’s position as the Heaven-appointed Judicial Heavenly God. His avatar recognized the transformed Judicial Book of Heaven, delivered condemned immortals for Jiang to judge, and observed as the Power of Heaven was distributed through the executions 521. He later supplied Jiang with resources and demanded that he become an Immortal as quickly as possible 522 529.
His relationship with Jiang deteriorated when he pressed Jiang to share his Power of Heaven and argued that Jiang’s ascent had depended on his and the Heavenly Emperor’s assistance 531. Seeking judicial authority for himself, he obtained a copy of the Judicial Book of Heaven, unaware that Jiang retained its main copy 540.
The Purple Star Heavenly King supported Liu Zhi as a replacement Judicial Heavenly God, but Jiang exposed Liu Zhi for stealing the Judicial Book of Heaven and executed him. Unable to force Jiang to act in support of the Heavenly Court, Purple Star threatened the Eastern Sea and the Demon Race before withdrawing 559.
He later attempted to seize Jiang’s treasures by force. Backed by the All-Heavens Star Array and the Four Divine Beasts, he offered Jiang one final chance to return to service beneath him; Jiang refused and declared him insignificant by comparison 650. Purple Star transformed his Purple Star into a divine sword using the Power of Heaven, but Jiang shattered the weapon with the Witch-Slaying Sword and forced him to flee 651.
After this defeat, he sought an alliance with the Demon Emperor. He accepted a bargain to support the Demon Emperor’s influence among the Demon Race in exchange for information about the Purple Star immortal office, while concealing his own intention to become Purple Star Great Emperor 652 655. He also hired Jiang to kill True Martial Heavenly King, whom he suspected of coveting his position; Jiang fulfilled the contract and delivered True Martial’s head 667 668.
Following the Heavenly Court’s downfall, the Demon Emperor offered him an opportunity to atone through service to the Heavenly Realm. Purple Star remained fixated on becoming Purple Star Great Emperor, however, and was brought to the Lunar Star to meet the true holder of the Purple Star immortal office: his own daughter, Fairy Zilan 811. Unable to accept this revelation, he froze himself and dispersed his divine soul 812.
Appearance
Purple Star Heavenly King wears purple robes and manifests immense violet qi. When releasing his power, a purple star forms beneath his feet, reinforcing his regal and oppressive presence 554 650.
- Purple robes that billow amid his divine aura 554
- Violet qi capable of filling the surrounding starry sky 650 651
- A condensed Purple Star used as the foundation of his divine power 650
- Cold, severe expressions that become visibly distorted when his ambitions are frustrated 650 651
Personality
Purple Star Heavenly King is ambitious, status-conscious, and contemptuous of those beneath him. He views the Purple Star Great Emperor position as the purpose of his life and considers an ordinary Heavenly King to be merely a subordinate who can be ordered about 655 811.
He is calculating enough to negotiate with enemies when direct force fails. After Jiang defeated him, he swallowed his humiliation and approached the Demon Emperor for cooperation, offering Heavenly Court knowledge and political support in exchange for a path toward the Purple Star immortal office 651 652 655.
His ambition ultimately becomes obsessive. Even after losing his divine sword, political standing, and freedom, he continues to pursue the Purple Star immortal office; discovering that Zilan possesses it drives him into despair 651 811 812.
“In this world, aside from mortals, no one is innocent.” 668
