Background / History
Future Cell came from Trunks's future timeline. Unlike the present Cell, he located Dr. Gero immediately after arriving in the past and revealed his origins to him. Gero then accelerated his maturation and used insect spy robots to gather data, extraterrestrial cells, and advanced technology. 31
He secretly had Gero modify additional androids for absorption. Although he initially offered to let the present Cell consume the remaining androids, this was a deception intended to win Gero's trust and make the present Cell a more valuable target for his own absorption. 32 35
Future Cell eventually exposed Dr. Gero's plan to absorb both Cells for himself. He then absorbed both Gero and the present Cell, becoming Super Perfect Cell and causing disasters across Earth through the force of his evolving aura. 35
Appearance
Cell is a green humanoid android with insect-like traits. In battle, he possesses a long absorptive tail and large black wings. 30 35 39
- Green body and insect-like mouthparts 33
- Long tail capable of swallowing androids whole 33 35
- Large black wings, damaged during his battle with Gogeta 39
- Can dramatically swell his body before self-destruction 42
Personality
Cell is theatrical, cruel, and intensely arrogant. He takes pleasure in explaining his schemes, watching opponents despair, and arranging battles as spectacles rather than ending them efficiently. 31 36 37
Unlike Dr. Gero's obsession with revenge against Goku, Cell is primarily driven by self-preservation, power, and the desire to prove himself the universe's strongest warrior. When decisively outmatched by Mystic Gohan, his arrogance gives way to bargaining and calculated obedience. 35 42 43
He is also deeply manipulative. He feigned loyalty to Dr. Gero while planning to absorb him, and he pretended to accept Gohan's conditions after defeat while concealing resentment. 32 35 43
Abilities & Skills
Absorption and Evolution
Cell can absorb androids through his tail, incorporating them into his body to evolve and gain power.
- Absorbed Androids 13, 14, and 15 before the main confrontation. 32
- Absorbed Dr. Gero and the present-timeline Cell to attain Super Perfect Form. 35
- Was forced to expel Androids 16, 17, 18, and Dr. Gero by Son Gohan. 43
- His body was described by Gero as theoretically capable of endless absorption without bursting. 32
Instant Transmission
Cell can teleport instantly.
- Rescued Dr. Gero and Android 19 from Gohan and Piccolo. 30
- Teleported Androids 16, 17, and 18 away from Goku's group. 30
- Learned the technique early because Gero's insect spy robots followed the Z Fighters to Yardrat. 32
Regeneration
Cell can regenerate extensive bodily damage.
- Regenerated repeatedly while being overwhelmed by Gogeta. 40
- Reformed from a surviving fragment of flesh after self-destructing. 42
- Regrew a torn-off arm almost immediately. 42
Cell Juniors
Cell can create Cell Jr.s from his tail.
- Produced nine Cell Jr.s during the Cell Games. 37 38
- Each Cell Jr. was stronger than Super Saiyan 2-level fighters. 38
- The Cell Jr.s could imitate techniques including Kamehameha, Spirit Ball, Tri-Beam, Dodon Ray, and Destructo Disc. 38
Energy Techniques
Cell demonstrates several high-level ki techniques.
- Special Beam Cannon — used against Gogeta. 39
- Self-Destruction — attempted to destroy Earth along with the Z Fighters; Gohan contained the blast within an energy barrier. 42
- Energy Beam — fired his strongest beam after regenerating, only for Gohan to deflect it into space. 42
Relationships
- Dr. Gero — creator and temporary ally; Cell feigned loyalty before exposing Gero's plan and absorbing him. 31 32 35
- Present Cell — alternate-timeline counterpart; used as part of Future Cell's plan and ultimately absorbed. 32 35
- Son Gohan — principal opponent during the Cell Games; Gohan defeated him, spared his life, and forced him to release the absorbed androids. 36 43
- Son Goku and Vegeta / Gogeta — Cell was effortlessly overwhelmed by their fusion, Gogeta, but survived when the fusion ended before finishing him. 39 40
- Androids 16, 17, and 18 — intended sacrifices in Gero's plan; later expelled from Cell under Gohan's threat. 32 43
- Krillin — hostile toward Cell because of Android 18; benefited from Gohan's demand that Cell release her. 36 43
Story Role / Major Arcs
Android Conspiracy
Cell appears amid Dr. Gero's coordinated android assault, demonstrating Instant Transmission by extracting Gero, Android 19, and later Androids 16–18 from the Z Fighters' reach. 30
The Z Fighters discover that there are two Cells: the present Cell and a future counterpart called Lightning Cell. Future Cell reveals that he released Bojack's group to harvest their cells and collaborated with Gero to accelerate the android project. 30 31
Creation of Super Perfect Cell
Gero announces a plan to create Super Perfect Cell through android absorption. Future Cell pretends to support the plan, but ultimately absorbs both Gero and the present Cell himself. 32 35
His completed evolution devastates Gero's laboratory and sends an evil aura beyond Earth, alarming the Supreme Kai and nearby worlds. 35 36
Cell Games
Cell challenges Earth's fighters to the Cell Games, creates a tournament arena in the northwestern wilderness, and declares his intention to kill the Z Fighters before eliminating humanity. 36 37
He produces nine Cell Jr.s to force the group into battle. Gohan defeats five of them alone, while the other Z Fighters contend with the rest. 37 38
Cell is then dominated by Gogeta, but survives because the fusion ends before Gogeta can destroy him. 39 40
Defeat and Exile
After Gohan unlocks the Mystic Gohan state, Cell is completely outclassed. His self-destruction fails to kill Gohan or destroy Earth, and his subsequent recovery boost does not close the gap. 42
Cell negotiates for his life, agreeing to leave Earth and avoid further wrongdoing. Gohan forces him to release Androids 16, 17, 18, and Dr. Gero first; weakened, Cell departs into space. 43

“After I set up the ring and finish killing all of you, I'll go and wipe out the rest of humanity. I call this the Cell Games.” 36
