Pangu strode forward, each step making chaos tremble beneath his feet.
Among the dozen or so Demon Gods ahead, there were no shortage of proud and arrogant figures. Seeing him charge headlong all the way, several immediately joined forces. The light of their laws wove into a net, trying to stop him.
Pangu did not even lift his eyelids. He casually swung the Pangu Axe in his hand.
The axe light swept past, and the net of laws shattered at once. Those Demon Gods' Dao bodies did not last even half a breath before exploding into countless motes of light.
This was only a contest of rankings, not yet a fight to the death. Besides, Shichen had warned them in advance about the calamity, so only their Dao bodies had been destroyed. Even so, this crushing display was enough to chill the hearts of the Demon Gods.
"Enough."
A cold shout rang out.
A black-robed figure stood across his path, the God-Slaying Spear angled toward the ground. Dark-red killing intent condensed into tangible blood mist. Luo Hou stood there, the Law of Slaughter boiling around him, while the phantom of a mountain of corpses and a sea of blood rose behind him.
"Pangu, this ends here."
"Slaughter Demon God?" Pangu stopped, lowering the axe blade slightly. "You want to stop me too?"
"Hmph." Killing intent surged in Luo Hou's eyes. "The Great Dao's rankings each have their destined order. You were born late; that does not mean you can run wild as you please. Let me see just how capable you really are."
Before his words had faded, the God-Slaying Spear became a scarlet rainbow, its tip aimed straight at Pangu's heart. The Law of Slaughter condensed to its utmost limit, and wherever it passed, even the chaos qi was corroded with sizzling sounds.
"Just that?"
Pangu sneered. Without dodging, he raised his hand and brought down his axe.
There was no flourish to the move. Pure Law of Strength condensed upon the axe blade. The axe light gleamed coldly, carrying a weight as though the entire chaos had come crashing down.
Clang—!
The instant spear and axe collided, Luo Hou felt an irresistible force surge up through the shaft. His tiger's mouth split open, and the God-Slaying Spear nearly flew from his grip. His entire body shot backward, his Dao body cracking inch by inch beneath that overwhelming force.
"How could this be..."
Luo Hou's pupils shrank sharply.
With the God-Slaying Spear in hand, he could not even withstand a single axe strike?
Before he could recover, the second streak of axe light had arrived.
Clean and decisive, it split across his Dao body.
Bang!
His Dao body exploded, turning into specks of spiritual light that flew back toward his true body.
In the far distance, a World Tree that held up the heavens floated silently.
The World Demon God sat on a treetop, swinging her two snow-white legs as she played with a tiny World Seed in her hand.
She smacked her lips and called down toward the base of the tree.
"Sister Order, aren't you going to stop him? If you really let Pangu fight his way up like this, you'll drop out of tenth place."
The Order Demon God kept her eyes closed, her tone calm. "I have never cared about rankings. I care only for the order of chaos."
"Order?" The World Demon God took another bite of a World Fruit.
"With Pangu smashing up everything in sight like this, does that count as disrupting order?"
"It does."
"Then you won't do anything?"
"I cannot."
The World Demon God swung her legs, and several bizarre little worlds appeared in her palm.
"Tsk, tsk. How dull."
"Look, so many interesting creatures have appeared in the little worlds newly grown on my World Tree. Want me to teach you something fun? Aren't you waiting for Shichen to help you establish order? Once you learn it, it'll definitely come in handy."
"Mind your manners in front of me!" The Order Demon God opened her eyes and shot her a stern glance.
"We Demon Gods should pursue the Great Dao. You spend every day learning this messy nonsense—what kind of propriety is that?"
"(ˉ▽ ̄~) Tch~~" The World Demon God curled her lips. "You're still as old-fashioned as ever."
While the two chatted idly, another change arose on the battlefield.
The Chaos Demon Ape leaped forth and landed directly in front of Pangu.
He planted the iron staff in his hand into the ground, shaking chaos into a roiling frenzy.
"Hahaha! Luo Hou is too useless!" The Demon Ape pounded his chest, his roar shaking the heavens.
"Pangu, want to get through? Fight me first! Since you were born last, I'll even give you one hand!"
Pangu looked at the black ape bouncing about and could not help laughing. He rolled his wrist, turning the axe blade slightly.
"Interesting."
"But you'd best pray I do not find your true body. Otherwise... if I chop you into several pieces, that won't be very fun."
"Enough nonsense! Fight!"
The Demon Ape roared. The Law of War blazed fiercely as his whole body became a streak of golden light, his iron staff smashing down with the force to shatter all things.
Pangu neither dodged nor evaded. He raised his axe one-handed and cleaved downward.
Boom!!
The instant staff and axe collided, a visible shockwave swept in all directions. The Chaos Demon Ape flew backward like a kite with a snapped string, carving a long ravine through chaotic space that stretched for billions of light-years.
He steadied himself and wiped the golden blood from the corner of his mouth. Not only was there no fear in his eyes, they burned red with excitement.
"Good! What strength!"
He hammered his chest with both fists and howled at the sky. The Law of War spun madly within him. Rather than weakening, his aura rose, becoming several degrees more tyrannical than before.
Pangu raised a brow.
"Then come again."
As his words fell, the second axe strike arrived.
This axe was faster and heavier than the last. The Law of Strength condensed into tangible axe light and pierced straight through the Demon Ape's battle qi barrier.
The Chaos Demon Ape, who had been charging forward, suddenly froze.
The next second, his Dao body vanished into smoke.
The battlefield fell silent for a moment.
He had defeated two Demon Gods ranked in the teens, both settled in two axe strikes.
The watching Demon Gods all felt a chill in their hearts. No one dared step forward lightly again.
In the distance, the Fate Demon God Mingyuan stood in the void, watching the battle. The space beside him suddenly rippled, and a figure silently appeared at his side.
The Fate Demon God turned his head, frowning.
"What are you doing here?"
The Karma Demon God stood beside him with a smile, his hands tucked into his sleeves, wearing the expression of someone who loved watching trouble unfold.
"Aren't you going to stop him? At this rate, you'll drop out of the top three."
The Fate Demon God rolled his eyes at him. "Fourth Karma, don't think I don't know what you're thinking. You got beaten by me when we were born, so you want to egg me on into taking a beating too? Impossible. Absolutely impossible."
"Oh, how could you put it that way? I'm sincerely thinking of your best interests."
"Get lost." The Fate Demon God showed no courtesy. "Besides, dropping one place is no big deal. Look at Sister Creation—she's about to fall from fifth to sixth, and she hasn't said a thing."
The Karma Demon God followed his gaze and saw the Creation Demon God standing in the distance, expressionlessly watching Pangu's back. Her joy and anger were impossible to discern.
"Tsk, tsk. Sister Creation is quite composed." The Karma Demon God withdrew his gaze and looked toward Shichen.
"But speaking of which, isn't Pangu a little too fierce? I wonder if Shichen can withstand him. I certainly can't."
Hearing this, the Fate Demon God also looked toward Shichen.
Shichen still stood with his hands behind his back amid chaos, eyes closed and motionless, as though everything happening around him had nothing to do with him.
The Fate Demon God's mouth twitched. "Look at him, still standing there with his hands behind his back, putting on airs. You needn't worry about him."
The Karma Demon God chuckled and said no more.
As the two spoke, Pangu had already continued onward.
When he reached Yang Mei's Space Domain, he stopped and turned to look over.
Yang Mei reclined against a willow branch, holding a cup of wine brewed from Chaos Spirit Liquid and sipping it at leisure.
"Space Demon God." Pangu's voice rang like a great bell. "You are already half a step into the Chaos Realm. Will you not stop me?"
Yang Mei lifted his eyelids, swayed his wine cup, and replied lazily.
"What's so interesting about all this fighting and killing? These old bones of mine just like watching a show. You fight for whatever you want. I won't involve myself."
Pangu was silent for several seconds. He gave Yang Mei a deep look, said nothing more, and turned to continue forward.
Until he reached the depths of chaos and stopped before a figure in azure robes.
He raised the Pangu Axe, its blade pointing from afar at the azure-clad figure, his voice rolling like thunder.
"Shichen! The position of first among the three thousand Demon Gods should change hands! Today, let the chaos world know who the true first Demon God is!"
Shichen, who had kept his eyes closed in concentration, slowly opened them.
Azure light flowed through his eyes, and the phantom of the River of Time flashed past in their depths.
He raised his head and looked at the giant whose might overshadowed all others, his tone calm.
"Good. I have been waiting for this for a long time."
