Shichen brought Hongjun back to the Time Domain.
From then on, a white-haired figure had been added to the Dao Domain.
Hongjun was exceptionally adept at reading the room. Aside from devoting himself to cultivating the Law of Immortality, he stayed by Shichen's side to listen to the Dao.
The occasional few words of guidance from Shichen were enough to make Hongjun feel as though the clouds had parted, benefiting him immensely.
Two hundred Chaos epochs passed in the blink of an eye.
On this day, Dao chimes rose once more from the edge of the Chaos.
"I am the Star Demon God, master of the Great Dao of Stars. I emerge today—let the Great Dao bear witness!"
A source pearl inscribed with the character "Star" slowly rose into the air, starlight spilling down in a breathtaking display.
The Star Demon God had only just stepped out of his eggshell and had not yet had time to survey his surroundings when a smiling, white-haired figure in Daoist robes blocked his way.
"New here?" Hongjun stroked his beard, his eyes carrying a hint of unfathomable depth. "I am Hongjun, the Immortal Demon God. Chaos has a tradition. I'm here to tell you about it."
The next moment, screams pierced the heavens.
After a long while, Hongjun clapped his hands and looked at the battered, bruised Star Demon God, nodding in satisfaction.
The resentment he had bottled up for two hundred Chaos epochs had finally been vented.
This tradition truly had to be passed down from generation to generation.
Meanwhile, deep within the Chaos, the atmosphere was nowhere near so relaxed.
The aura of the calamity grew ever denser, gray-black mist slowly eating away at everything. Every Demon God could sense that the vitality of the Chaos was gradually declining, while the aura of the Great Dao became increasingly still.
Shichen no longer secluded himself in relentless cultivation.
He often strode through the void, either seeking out Yang Mei to brew tea and discuss the Dao, deducing the means by which space and time could align; or venturing deep into perilous regions of Chaos in search of Chaos spiritual treasures that had yet to be born.
Pangu was about to emerge. He had to face him in his absolute peak state.
Only by stopping Pangu first would there be any possibility of discussing the later plan of his Dao body opening the heavens.
Another five hundred Chaos epochs slipped away.
On this day, without any warning, the entire Chaos violently trembled.
Rumble—!
The Chaos source aura across a range of billions of light-years erupted at once, as though stirred by an invisible hand, churning into monstrous waves. Every Demon God in seclusion was jolted awake, stepping out of their respective Dao Domains and staring uneasily toward the source of the upheaval.
"Finally... is he about to emerge?"
At the peak of the Time Domain, Shichen stood with his hands behind his back, his azure robes snapping wildly in the gale. His gaze pierced through layers of Chaos aura and settled upon the enormous egg that was continuously expanding, his eyes dark and profound.
"Roar—!!"
A heaven-shaking roar suddenly exploded forth.
Every Demon God felt their souls tremble, an instinctive sense of oppression rising within them.
Deep within the Chaos, the Great Dao manifested.
That enormous eye appeared, coldly watching the source of the roar.
Immediately afterward, the source aura of the entire Chaos world began to surge ceaselessly toward that giant egg, forming an immense vortex and pouring into it with mad abandon.
From afar, it looked as though the entire Chaos were presenting gifts for the birth of this Demon God.
"Damn..."
Shichen's mouth twitched as he watched, his teeth itching with frustration.
"Great Dao, you're really playing favorites!"
When each of them Demon Gods had emerged, when had they ever received such treatment? Not to mention personally pouring source energy into them—the Great Dao had been too lazy even to spare them a second glance. At most, it tossed out a single word, "Granted," before vanishing.
But when it came to this guy, not only did the Great Dao appear in person, it even mobilized the source energy of the entire Chaos to feed him.
The difference was far too obvious.
So the other 2,999 of them had all been picked up from the roadside?
At the same time, Yang Mei, Mingyuan, Karma, Creation, and the other top Demon Gods had already gathered together.
They stared at that terrifying torrent of source energy, each of them dumbfounded.
Yang Mei raised his brows and clicked his tongue in amazement. "No wonder Shichen said Pangu was the key before. I was still puzzled back then. Now I understand... with treatment like this, anyone would have to be the key."
He stroked his chin, then added:
"But that said, why do I feel like he could chop me to death with a single swing of his axe?"
"So this is... the Great Dao's beloved son?" the Karma Demon God spoke slowly, with a rare trace of surprise in his tone.
Mingyuan frowned and turned to look at him. "What beloved son? Where did you hear such a strange way of putting it?"
Karma glanced at him. "I wield karma. Across past and future, in any universe or world, so long as karmic ties exist, traces of me exist. I have heard much, so naturally I know. You wield destiny—haven't you glimpsed a thing or two?"
Mingyuan gave a cold snort and turned his head away.
As they spoke, a crisp crack rang out.
Cracks spread across the giant egg.
The next moment, the eggshell exploded apart!
A colossal giant, billions upon billions of zhang tall, appeared within the Chaos as though he stood between heaven and earth.
His body was massive and muscular, cords of muscle knotted beneath bronze skin, every inch containing the terrifying power to carve open a world. His black hair danced wildly, his features rugged. Whenever his tiger-like eyes opened and closed, the majesty of opening heaven and splitting earth burst forth.
Beneath his feet, the 36th-Grade Chaos Green Lotus slowly revolved, green radiance cascading down, inviolable by all laws;
Above his head, the Creation Jade Butterfly floated, its three thousand law patterns faintly appearing and vanishing as it deduced all things;
At his side, the Pangu Axe lay across the void, its blade cold and gleaming, as though a casual swing could cleave apart the entire Chaos.
Three Chaos supreme treasures!
Even more terrifying was the aura spreading from his body, crushing the surrounding Chaos into layer after layer of collapse.
Chaos Realm!
He had entered the Chaos Realm the moment he was born!
"Great Dao... this is beyond ridiculous."
Shichen pressed a hand to his forehead, completely speechless.
They were both Demon Gods, yet the gap between them was so vast it was as if they had not been born from the same mother.
The other Demon Gods felt their scalps go numb as they watched.
Yang Mei's mouth twitched. "I just said he could chop me to death with one swing of his axe. Now it seems... that might actually be possible."
Mingyuan's expression turned grave, the fingers gripping the Fate Compass tightening slightly.
He had always considered himself among the top three Demon Gods, yet this Pangu merely standing there was enough to make him feel pressure.
Just as everyone stood stunned, the giant suddenly moved.
Pangu lowered his head, his gaze sweeping over the boundless Chaos before finally settling precisely in Shichen's direction.
He grinned, his voice like a great bell, shaking layers of Chaos aura until they exploded:
"Shichen! I'm taking your first place!"
As those words fell, several thousand source Dao marks high above the Chaos trembled at the same time.
The struggle for rank concerned a Demon God's source and the Great Dao's recognition. Pangu's declaration was an open bid to seize the position of first among the three thousand Demon Gods.
Once he won, every Demon God's rank would shift back by one place, and the weight of their source would weaken accordingly.
"Outrageous!"
"Why should we let you?!"
Quite a few mid- and lower-ranked Demon Gods immediately shouted in fury, laws rising around them as they prepared to join forces and exert pressure.
Pangu only threw back his head and laughed.
His laughter brimmed with arrogant disdain for all beneath heaven. He raised a hand and gripped the Pangu Axe, its edge angled toward the ground as terrifying waves of power surged ever higher.
"Those unwilling to give up their places, come and stop me if you dare."
"Those who can't stop me, get the hell out of my way!"
Before his words had faded, he stamped his foot, and the Chaos across hundreds of millions of light-years shook three times.
Pangu carried his giant axe and walked step by step toward Shichen. With every step, a section of Chaos space shattered, while the violent Law of Strength swept in all directions with an unstoppable momentum.
The lower-ranked Demon Gods turned pale and instinctively retreated, not even daring to breathe.
High above the Chaos, the source Dao Pearl inscribed with the character "Strength" began to soar madly upward from the three-thousandth rank, rising at a speed visible to the naked eye.
