Appearance
Luo Hou is commonly depicted in black robes, surrounded by dark-red killing intent and an apparition of mountains of corpses and seas of blood. He carries the jet-black God-Slaying Spear, whose presence radiates a chilling, soul-piercing murderous aura. 4 5
His Mount Sumeru Dao incarnation similarly wears black robes and conceals itself behind layers of formations when operating in the Primordial World. 21
Personality
Luo Hou is proud, aggressive, and highly contemptuous of weakness. He values the hierarchy established by the Great Dao and initially confronted Pangu for disregarding the rankings of the Chaos Demon Gods. 10
He is a ruthless yet pragmatic schemer. Rather than immediately expose himself during the Ferocious Beast Calamity, he remained hidden at Mount Sumeru and waited to advance his own plans. He later sought to exploit the Dragon-Phoenix conflict to accumulate Sha Qi, strengthen the Devil Race, and contend for the Primordial World's destiny. 21 36
Despite his belligerence, Luo Hou recognizes overwhelming strength. After Shichen froze time and effortlessly halted his battle with the Chaos Demon Ape, Luo Hou accepted Shichen's superiority; he later openly acknowledged Shichen's first position among the Demon Gods. 5 31
His Dao of Slaughter can erode his reason. When his Dao body was defeated during the Dao-Devil conflict, Luo Hou attempted to detonate the Western Continent's ley lines in a fit of madness. 43
Abilities and Treasures
Dao of Slaughter
- Law of Slaughter: Luo Hou's primary Great Dao. His killing intent corrodes space, condenses into blood mist, and manifests visions of corpses and blood seas. 4 5
- Dao-Slaying: A spear technique in which Luo Hou releases the God-Slaying Spear's power against his opponent. 38
- Slay the Dao, Massacre Heaven, Exterminate Gods: Luo Hou condenses his Law of Slaughter and Dharma Body into a devastating three-in-one spear strike. 39
- Devil Race creation: He can derive devil beings from his own Great Dao law and from the Sha Qi of heaven and earth. 27 36
- Sha Qi refinement: Luo Hou used the slaughter and bloodshed of the Dragon-Phoenix war to refine spiritual treasures and cultivate the Devil Race. 36
God-Slaying Spear
The God-Slaying Spear is Luo Hou's natal weapon and a complete top-tier Chaos Spirit Treasure. Its killing aura freezes chaotic currents, corrodes space, and sharply amplifies Luo Hou's combat power. 5 27
Immortal-Execution Sword Array
Luo Hou refined the Absolute Immortal Sword, Slaughter Immortal Sword, Trap Immortal Sword, Immortal-Execution Sword, and the accompanying formation diagram from Sha Qi. The four top-grade innate spirit treasures form the Immortal-Execution Sword Array, a formation capable of threatening Hunyuan Realm cultivators. 36
Luo Hou used the array to trap Hongjun after Hongjun's betrayal of the Five Elements and Yin-Yang Demon Gods. He claimed that the array could not be broken without four Hunyuan Realm cultivators, but Hongjun countered by manifesting his Good, Evil, and Self Corpses alongside his true self. 42 43
Following the collapse of Luo Hou's Dao body, Hongjun seized the four swords; they were later bestowed upon Tongtian. 43 50 60
History
Chaos Era
Luo Hou emerged as the Slaughter Demon God and the twelfth-ranked Chaos Demon God. He fought the eleventh-ranked Chaos Demon Ape, wielding the God-Slaying Spear against the ape's Chaos iron staff. Although the spear dramatically increased his strength, the Demon Ape's ever-growing battle intent gradually forced Luo Hou into a disadvantage until Shichen froze time and ended the battle. 4 5
He later attempted to prevent Pangu from challenging Shichen's position at the head of the Demon Gods. Pangu easily shattered Luo Hou's attacking Dao body with two strikes of his axe, demonstrating the immense gap between the two. 10
When Pangu opened the heavens, Luo Hou contributed a Dao body along with the other Chaos Demon Gods. After the Primordial World took shape, he dispatched another Dao body carrying the God-Slaying Spear into the new world to seize its destiny. 17 18
Ferocious Beast Calamity
Luo Hou's Dao incarnation concealed itself within Mount Sumeru during the Ferocious Beast Clan's conquest of the Far West Lands. Though he sensed the region's pervasive blood and baleful aura, he chose not to reveal himself or intervene prematurely. 21
Hongjun subsequently impersonated Luo Hou while manipulating Taotie and the Three Innate Clans into opposing Shen Ni and the Ferocious Beast Clan. Luo Hou did not learn of this until after Shen Ni's death, when he discovered that the Three Clans had been calling Hongjun “Fellow Daoist Luo Hou.” 22 27
In response, Luo Hou attacked Hongjun with the true God-Slaying Spear. He temporarily suppressed Hongjun and injured him, unaware that Hongjun had deliberately exposed an opening in order to escape with Taotie and turn other Demon Gods' contingencies against Luo Hou. 27
Founding the Devil Race
After the Ferocious Beast Calamity, Luo Hou's Mount Sumeru Dao body awakened the beings derived from his Law of Slaughter and named them the Devil Race. The newly formed race acknowledged him as the Devil Ancestor. 27
Luo Hou intended to use the Devil Race and the Sha Qi generated by war to seize the Primordial World's fortune. His plans brought him into conflict with the Destruction Demon God, who mistakenly blamed Luo Hou for the loss of Shen Ni, Destruction's contingency in the Primordial World. 29
Dragon-Han Upheaval and Dao-Devil Conflict
During the Dragon-Phoenix war, Luo Hou refined the Immortal-Execution Sword Array from the accumulating Sha Qi and sought to drag the Qilin Clan into the conflict. His objective was to turn the Three Clans' slaughter into power for the Devil Race and establish dominance over the Primordial World. 36
Hongjun approached Luo Hou with a proposal to cooperate against the contingencies of the Five Elements and Yin-Yang Demon Gods. Luo Hou accepted the alliance, though neither side fully trusted the other. 36
Luo Hou then publicly declared war upon the Primordial World and led the Devil Race to conquer the Western Continent. He defeated Hongjun in their first major confrontation, forcing Hongjun to retreat to Yujing Mountain and prompting the Five Elements and Yin-Yang Demon Gods to seek an alliance with Hongjun. 37 38 39
When Hongjun, Five Elements, and Yin-Yang later confronted him at Mount Sumeru, Luo Hou activated the Immortal-Execution Sword Array according to the previous arrangement with Hongjun. However, he refused to release Hongjun after the Five Elements and Yin-Yang Dao bodies were defeated, revealing that he intended to kill Hongjun as well. 42 43
Hongjun ultimately broke the formation with his Three Corpses and defeated Luo Hou's heavily wounded Dao body. Driven mad by the Law of Slaughter, Luo Hou attempted to detonate the Western ley lines, but the Dao Venerable stopped him. Luo Hou's Dao body then dissipated to repair the damage to the Primordial World. 43
Later Activities
Luo Hou returned alongside the Chaos Demon Gods after Shichen's Dao body merged with the Heavenly Dao. His reappearance shocked the leaders of the Three Innate Clans, who had believed him dead following the Dao-Devil conflict. 57
During Shichen's attempt to restart Chaos, Luo Hou fought the Devour Demon God and condemned Devour for submitting out of fear rather than resisting the prospect of returning to the Dao. 68
In the era of the myriad worlds, Luo Hou contested Hongjun's claim over the Jun Clan's world. Hongjun invoked his role as Shichen's representative to pressure Luo Hou into accepting a sixty-forty division of the world's origin authority. 121 122
Relationships
Chaos Demon Ape
Luo Hou initially regarded the Chaos Demon Ape as a rival and fought him fiercely in Chaos. Although their first battle ended with Luo Hou at a disadvantage, their repeated clashes eventually developed into an unlikely friendship, with Luo Hou often providing the ape with strategic advice. 5 31
Shichen
Luo Hou recognizes Shichen as the foremost Demon God and accepted his superiority after witnessing Shichen's control over time. He later defended Shichen's leadership before Yang Mei, praising Shichen's impartiality and willingness to share information vital to the survival of Chaos. 5 31
Hongjun
Luo Hou and Hongjun are longstanding enemies and rivals. Hongjun's impersonation of Luo Hou during the Ferocious Beast Calamity directly provoked their first major conflict in the Primordial World. 22 27
They briefly formed an alliance during the Dragon-Han Upheaval to eliminate the Five Elements and Yin-Yang contingencies, but both intended to betray the other. Their antagonism persisted into the myriad-world era, where they continued to quarrel even while negotiating the division of a world's authority. 36 42 122
Five Elements and Yin-Yang Demon Gods
Luo Hou became the primary target of the Five Elements and Yin-Yang Demon Gods after his Devil Race threatened the Primordial World. They attempted to trap him with their respective arrays, but Hongjun's betrayal allowed Luo Hou to severely injure them and activate the Immortal-Execution Sword Array. 39 42
Destruction Demon God
The Destruction Demon God blamed Luo Hou for the destruction of Shen Ni, his contingency in the Primordial World, and attacked him at the Hall of Gods. Luo Hou denied responsibility and dismissed Shen Ni's defeat as the failure of an incompetent chess piece. 26 29
Devil Race
Luo Hou is the creator, leader, and acknowledged Devil Ancestor of the Devil Race. He regards its members primarily as instruments of his Dao and can recreate them from the baleful qi of heaven and earth. 27 38
