Cultivation Notes
- In primordial Chaos, the realm system was originally divided into the nine levels of Primordial Unity, followed by the Heavenly Dao Realm and Chaos Realm. Later immortal-cultivation terminology emerged only after Hongjun's teachings in the Primordial World. 2
- The Hunyuan Realm is the Chaos-era designation used for power comparable to later immortal realms, though its strength and cultivation system differ from the Immortal Dao. 25
Appearance
Hongjun appears as a refined, white-haired old Daoist with three long strands of beard, a Daoist crown, immaculate robes, and a horsetail whisk. Though he usually presents a peaceful and sage-like bearing, his bright eyes carry a calculating shrewdness. 8 118
Personality
Hongjun is cautious, calculating, patient, and exceptionally adept at weighing advantages against risks. He habitually conceals his true strength, maneuvers opponents into useful positions, and bears grudges against those who slight him. 8 28 36 42
Despite his scheming nature, he is committed to preserving the Primordial World and advancing Shichen's larger plan for the survival and prosperity of Chaos. He teaches the Immortal Dao openly, even to anomalies and beings who may become future threats. 18 50 118
History
Birth and Alliance with Shichen
Hongjun was born late in Chaos as the Immortal Demon God, initially ranked 2,998th among the three thousand Chaos Demon Gods. Shortly after his birth, he was approached by Dao Venerable Shichen, who informed him of the Heaven-Opening Calamity and the Great Dao's intention to refine Chaos anew. 8
Recognizing both the danger and the opportunity, Hongjun pledged to follow Shichen. He proposed that the Demon Gods condense Dao bodies to participate in opening Heaven while preserving their true bodies, becoming one of Shichen's earliest and most capable planners. 8
Entrusted with the Primordial World
After the Primordial World formed from the Dao bodies of the Chaos Demon Gods, Shichen entrusted Hongjun with preaching the Dao of Immortality and securing the newly born world's providence. Shichen had already imprinted the Immortal Dao into the Primordial World because its gradual and universal nature was suitable for all living beings. 18
Hongjun established himself on Yujing Mountain, cultivated in seclusion, and began preparing to contend with the contingencies left behind by other Demon Gods. 20 22
Fierce Beast Calamity
Shichen restored Hongjun's incomplete Pseudo-Creation Jade Butterfly to the level of a Chaos Spiritual Treasure and ordered him to monitor Taotie, an anomaly carrying a system connected to the Chaos World's origin crisis. 22
Hongjun concealed his identity under the name Luo Hou, manipulated the three innate clans into opposing Shen Ni and the Fierce Beast Clan, and secretly placed an immortal mark within Taotie. 22
During the war in the Far West Lands, Hongjun used the Pseudo-Creation Jade Butterfly to protect Zulong, Yuanfeng, and Shi Qilin from the replica World-Extinguishing Millstone. When Shen Ni prepared an attack capable of exterminating most life in the Primordial World, Hongjun revealed fifth-level Hunyuan cultivation and bound the millstone with the combined light of the three thousand Great Dao laws. 25 26
After Shen Ni's fall, Hongjun received fifty percent of the Heavenly Dao's merit, regarding it primarily as recognition necessary to his eventual control of the Primordial World. He then captured Taotie and extracted the anomaly's memories, learning of the original future in which he would become the Dao Ancestor and govern the Primordial World. 27 28
Dao-Demon Conflict
Hongjun formed a covert alliance with Luo Hou during the Dragon-Han Calamity. He proposed ending the Three Clans' war, drawing out Five Elements and Yin-Yang, and using Luo Hou's Immortal-Execution Sword Array to eliminate their Dao bodies. 36
He personally persuaded Zulong, Yuanfeng, and Shi Qilin to halt their conflict, warning them of outsiders and systems that threatened the Primordial World's origin. 37
Hongjun feigned defeat against Luo Hou to lure Five Elements and Yin-Yang into acting. Once they were caught in the Immortal-Execution Sword Array, he revealed his peak ninth-heaven Hunyuan cultivation and turned against them. 39 42 43
Following the conflict, Hongjun established the Mysterious Gate and declared his intention to preach the Immortal Dao throughout the Primordial World. 43
Purple Heaven Palace and the Immortal Dao
Hongjun opened Purple Heaven Palace and gave sermons on the Dao of the Great Luo Golden Immortal. He openly explained the paths of law cultivation, the Method of Slashing the Three Corpses, the Primordial Golden Immortal, Quasi-Sage, and Sage realms rather than concealing the stronger path of proving the Dao through laws. 50
During his later sermon, Hongjun distributed Hongmeng Purple Qi, Sage positions, and spiritual treasures. The widespread adoption of the Immortal Dao caused the Primordial World's fortune to converge upon him, raising his cultivation to the third level of the Heavenly Dao Realm. 60
He also entrusted a captured system to his attendant Haotian, ordering him to report any task harmful to the Primordial World. 45
Later Calamities and Myriad Realms
Hongjun intervened at the end of the Three Clans' final war, compelling Zulong, Yuanfeng, and Shi Qilin to swear atonement for the devastation they had caused. 73
During the Witch-Demon conflict, he grew suspicious of certain decisions made by Heavenly Dao Shichen, particularly where they might endanger the Twelve Ancestral Witches. Nevertheless, he continued to coordinate with Shichen while discreetly preparing contingencies of his own. 95 97
When Pangu prepared to strike Taiyi with the Pangu Axe, Hongjun persuaded him to stop to avoid destroying the Primordial World. Hongjun then executed Taiyi himself with Immortal Dao Divine Punishment, while preserving Taiyi's true spirit origin for a future rebirth. 98
Hongjun later spread the Mysterious Gate's lineage into other worlds, including Xiao Fen's world, where he granted Xiao Fen the Immortal Dao and the Method of Slashing the Three Corpses. 118
During the Myriad Realms Investiture Calamity, Hongjun proposed establishing the Heavenly Court of Order under Haotian to govern the myriad realms alongside Di Jun's Ancient Heavenly Court. 125
When replicas of Chaos Demon Gods caused confusion during the Chaos war, Hongjun and Luo Hou revealed the means of distinguishing authentic Demon Gods: genuine Demon Gods possess Hearts of the Origin of the Great Dao and Chaos Supreme Treasures that replicas cannot duplicate. 138

Hongjun is the creator and foremost exponent of the Immortal Dao, a cultivation system designed to be accessible to the living beings of the Primordial World. His teachings established the later terminology and paths of immortal cultivation. 18 50 60
Method of Slashing the Three Corpses
