Infiltrating Avengers Tower

As Mordo vanished from the grassland, Black Lantern Quicksilver saw the archive room through the teleportation circle. Though he had no idea how Mordo had opened a teleportation circle to this place, Black Lantern Quicksilver was still delighted. At the very least, he could rush in with his super speed.

He slipped in using his super speed while Mordo entered the teleportation circle. However, when he emerged from the portal, he found that he could no longer use any of his abilities. His extreme speed had completely vanished. Now, he was merely a physically fit young man—no, not a young man, but a dead man.

A living dead man.

Mordo watched Quicksilver rush over, not knowing why Black Lantern Quicksilver had followed him. He asked, "Why did you follow me here?"

"I said we're teammates now, so of course we should act together. We were just talking about defeating the Avengers by taking them down one by one. How could you leave me there alone?" Black Lantern Quicksilver shrugged and continued, "You need to know that Tony really wants to find me. If I'm left alone, or if something happens, then everything we just said will be empty talk. That's why I think I should have come along."

Mordo looked at Black Lantern Quicksilver. Since he was already here, there was nothing to be done. He couldn't exactly send Black Lantern Quicksilver back, could he?

Then the alarm sounded.

Mordo and Black Lantern Quicksilver were baffled. They had not touched anything, so how had they triggered an alarm? It made them uneasy. Mordo had magic, so he was not afraid. They simply stared intently at the doorway without moving an inch. They vaguely guessed that the alarm had nothing to do with them.

Red lightning crackled around Lu Mingyu. Just as he reversed his ability, another bolt of lightning swept him away.

Tony saw the other streak of red lightning and immediately activated the alarm. He did not know what it was, but Lu Mingyu absolutely could not be taken away.

He checked the surveillance footage and quickly discovered where the red lightning had gone. Although it flashed past every camera in an instant, it was not difficult to track after Jarvis processed the footage.

Mordo and Black Lantern Quicksilver inspected their surroundings. They knew there were no cameras here. This was a paper archive room, after all, so everything was kept old-fashioned, with no computers or similar systems.

In other words, Jarvis could not see this place. That should have been good news for them. They began searching for files on Vision and Scarlet Witch.

Mordo knew that Black Lantern Quicksilver was one of the Avengers, and that he was someone who had returned from the dead, so he did not pay much attention to Black Lantern Quicksilver targeting the Avengers. He thought Black Lantern Quicksilver might have been treated unfairly. As he searched through the files in his hands, he found no information on Vision or Scarlet Witch. Or rather, there were no files here at all.

There was nothing but blank paper.

Yes, all blank paper.

The first time Mordo came to Avengers Tower, he had seen this hidden room. He saw Tony emerge from it with a grave expression, holding a file folder as though it contained something important. That was why Mordo had been able to use a portal to reach this place.

It was not his first time here, but one of many. He simply had never had the time to look through it. After all, Doctor Strange had been there at the time too, though it was not on the night they fought at Avengers Tower.

Mordo looked at Black Lantern Quicksilver and said, "It seems we've been played. There are no files here at all."

"Yeah, there aren't any. But I remember you saying their files would be here. So what exactly did we come here for? To look cute?" Black Lantern Quicksilver's temper suddenly flared, like a demon ready to devour someone.

Mordo did not get angry. He knew Black Lantern Quicksilver was a corrupted Avenger, and that sooner or later, he would kill him—just not now. He said calmly, "I was deceived too, so don't take your temper out on me. We're teammates, aren't we? Remember? We're going to defeat the Avengers."

Black Lantern Quicksilver did not calm down. He began smashing things around the archive room. That was bad enough, but powerful magical fluctuations suddenly appeared around them. Clearly, they belonged to Doctor Strange.

Mordo shouted, "Stop! Stop right now! Otherwise Stephen will sense our presence. Stop! If you don't want to expose yourself, calm down!"

Black Lantern Quicksilver knew that he had no energy right now. If they really fought, he would not be able to defeat Mordo. He said, "So what exactly can you do?"

"This place is covered by Stephen's magic, so there should be something like an illusion spell here. But I can't figure it out. Since when was he willing to learn something like this?"

"Maybe when you turned evil. He wanted to become an ordinary wizard so he could find you." Although Black Lantern Quicksilver had been resurrected with the Black Lantern Ring, he still possessed his own intelligence. After thinking for a moment, he came to that conclusion, because that was the best way to locate Mordo.

A cold sweat broke out all over Mordo. If Doctor Strange really used this method to find him, then he truly could not act carelessly in the future. His actions could not follow any pattern; they had to be random.

Mordo found the situation difficult to handle. He had never understood why, at the final moment, Doctor Strange chose to trust Ancient One and was about to take her place. Mordo could not understand it at all. He knew Doctor Strange was not someone who craved power or authority.

Black Lantern Quicksilver guessed what Mordo was thinking. He said, "You're thinking about how to break this spell, aren't you?"

"Sorry, no. I'm thinking about how we can act without Doctor Strange discovering us. At the same time, I'm wondering why he was clearly on the same side as me in the beginning, yet now he has abandoned his previous beliefs."

Black Lantern Quicksilver looked at Mordo's expression and said, "It's simple. From what you told me on the grassland, I know Ancient One must have been someone you respected greatly. So, to you, she must have seemed completely selfless. Right?"

"Yes." Mordo's face darkened. That was indeed how he had felt back then.

"But in reality, he used the power of an evil person, and you didn't know about it at the time. In other words, while he was using that power, you still believed he was completely selfless." Black Lantern Quicksilver watched Mordo's expression. He knew that unless this issue was resolved, the man before him would not fight the Avengers alongside him.

Mordo nodded without objecting. Black Lantern Quicksilver continued, "Isn't the Doctor Strange you mentioned the same? What if he is borrowing someone else's power now? Or what if his current selflessness, and the selflessness he had before, are both the same kind as Ancient One's?"

"I understand."

"Then undo the spell." Black Lantern Quicksilver took a step back, not knowing what would happen once the spell was undone.

"But—"

"No buts. He's the same as Ancient One now. We have to stake everything on this."

"I'm thinking, what if breaking the spell here alerts him? Or what if he realizes we're looking for files on Vision and Scarlet Witch?"

"Take everything." Black Lantern Quicksilver said it directly. They were going to war anyway, so it did not matter if they took it all.
