Background / History
Lu Mingyu was an eighteen-year-old university freshman who had just received his admission notice. Disillusioned by social competition and the suffering he saw around him, he withdrew into novels, American television, films, and comics instead. A devoted Marvel and DC fan, he especially admired Flash and wished he could enter Flash’s world, even if only to see its heroes in person. 4
While watching Flash at home, Lu Mingyu was struck by lightning emerging from his television. Blue and golden lightning tore through his living room, destroyed its furniture, and carried him away through spatial cracks; his mother witnessed his disappearance. 4
He woke in an unfamiliar grassland beneath a star-filled sky, where damaged Iron Man armor fell nearby. Initially convinced that he was dreaming or trapped in a mental illusion, he encountered Black Lantern Quicksilver and learned that death in this world was real. An unidentified elderly speedster saved him from Quicksilver and warned him that he would need to master his new power to return to his own world and lost time. 4 6
Personality
Lu Mingyu begins his time in the Marvel world frightened, inexperienced, and strongly averse to dying. Despite fantasizing about becoming a hero, his first response to Black Lantern Quicksilver is to flee with Tony Stark rather than risk a direct fight. He openly recognizes this fear as cowardice, but continues acting when others are endangered. 5 6
He is excitable around heroes he admired from his original world. Meeting Tony Stark leaves him thrilled, while meeting Spider-Man makes him openly starstruck and eager to become friends. His enthusiasm can be impulsive and awkward, but it also motivates him to train and cooperate with others. 5 19 20
Lu Mingyu grows increasingly protective and resourceful. He repeatedly risks himself for Tony, Doctor Strange, Spider-Man, Scarlet Witch, Hawkeye, civilians, and even Black Lantern Quicksilver. He remains cautious about secrets and manipulation, particularly when Tony’s research into the Speed Force raises suspicions, but generally chooses trust when he believes someone needs help. 11 24 41 43 47
His strongest personal motivation is returning to his original world. Although he treasures his powers and his new life among superheroes, he cannot accept the pain his disappearance has caused his family. 12 40 41
Abilities & Skills
Speed Force Physiology
Lu Mingyu possesses a Speed Force altered by his passage into the Marvel world. It grants him superhuman movement, accelerated reactions, heightened perception, and rapid recovery of stamina.
- Can carry people while running at high speed, though doing so reduces his endurance and can disorient passengers. 5 6 7
- Sees attacks, projectiles, magic, and environmental movement in extreme slow motion while in a speed state. 11 22 34
- Runs across walls and vertical surfaces, including the glass exterior of a building. 22 42
- Can vibrate his body to escape restraints; Reverse-Flash teaches him the principle of passing through objects by matching their vibrational frequency. 23 35
- His speed is initially far below Flash’s expected level and is limited by poor control, exhaustion, and inexperience. 5 6 16
- The Dark Blade can absorb his Speed Force, while a Speed Inhibitor can temporarily suppress his speed entirely. 5 24 34
Lightning Manipulation
His Speed Force manifests as blue lightning, later developing purple coloration during major breakthroughs.
- Generates lightning attacks capable of knocking back and temporarily paralyzing Black Lantern Quicksilver. 7
- Channels lightning through his body to stimulate himself, break restraints, and increase momentum. 23
- Infuses objects with Speed Force, turning a stone into a high-speed projectile strong enough to deflect the Dark Blade. 35
- Uses intensified lightning offensively against armored opponents and falling debris. 28 43
- Purple lightning accompanies his temporary speed multiplication and later extreme-speed state. 35 43
Airflow and Vortex Creation
By rotating his arms at super speed, Lu Mingyu creates small tornadoes and powerful wind currents.
- Extinguishes flames around Tony Stark’s damaged armor by creating twin vortexes that drain oxygen from the immediate area. 5
- Uses small tornadoes to limit Spider-Man’s routes during training. 22
- Cushions falls and lowers civilians from collapsing floors. 43
- This technique is slower than direct high-speed escape and is impractical when immediate evacuation is required. 43
Temporal Interaction
The Speed Force gives Lu Mingyu limited resistance to temporal effects.
- Nearly escapes Doctor Strange’s time freeze under the Eye of Agamotto. 11
- Understands that sufficiently advanced Speed Force use may allow travel through time or between parallel worlds, though he has not demonstrated either ability himself. 11 16 47
Combat Adaptability
Lu Mingyu is not formally trained in martial arts, but develops tactical instincts through Tony Stark’s training sessions and repeated battles.
- Redirects enemy attacks toward one another while fighting specialized Iron Legion suits. 28
- Uses his dismantled armor as a projectile swarm after his speed is suppressed, helping Spider-Man destroy most of the Iron Legion. 24
- Learns to prioritize rescue operations during the destruction of Stark Tower rather than pursuing the Dark Blade. 43
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Barry Armor — Tony Stark’s tailored speed armor for Lu Mingyu. It is designed to reduce friction and heat, enhance high-speed movement, and recognize only Lu Mingyu as its user. 21 47
- Allen Armor — One of Tony’s two Speed Force-storage armors. It stores Lu Mingyu’s excess energy without draining his stamina; Tony later wears it during the Dark Blade crisis. It is severely damaged and considered beyond repair afterward. 43 46
- Compressed Speed Force ring — A ring created by Tony as an emergency reserve of Lu Mingyu’s Speed Force. Tony gives it to Lu Mingyu, who later leaves it with Tony. 46 47
- Memory projector — A device Lu Mingyu uses to revisit his happiest and most painful memories, including the moment before his transmigration. 40
- Childhood diary and unopened letter — A diary containing sealed memories and a letter addressed to Ying Menghan. 50
Relationships
- Tony Stark / Iron Man — Lu Mingyu’s idol, benefactor, mentor, and close ally. Lu rescues Tony from Black Lantern Quicksilver, while Tony hides his identity, gives him a place at Avengers Tower, builds his armor, and trains him. 5 11 16 21
- Peter Parker / Spider-Man — Friend, teammate, and another of Lu Mingyu’s idols. Tony pairs them for training; their initial duel ends in a draw before they learn to cooperate against the Iron Legion and Hulk Suit. 19 20 23 24 28
- Stephen Strange / Doctor Strange — Ally who is initially suspicious of Lu Mingyu’s origin and temporal abilities. Lu Mingyu saves Strange from the Dark Blade and later assists him against Mordo. 11 13 14
- Eobard Thawne / Reverse-Flash — Initially an abductor who intends to absorb Lu Mingyu’s Speed Force. They form a conditional alliance: Thawne trains Lu Mingyu, while Lu promises to help him return to his own world. 30 33 35
- Black Lantern Quicksilver — Primary speedster adversary whose Dark Blade repeatedly absorbs Lu Mingyu’s power. Lu Mingyu later saves him from Hawkeye’s attack and the Dark Blade explosion, hoping Quicksilver can lead him to the world rift. 5 34 41 42
- Scarlet Witch and Hawkeye — Allies rescued by Lu Mingyu during the Dark Blade explosion. Scarlet Witch compares Lu Mingyu to her brother, Quicksilver. 41 42 46
- Lu Mingyu’s mother — His mother witnesses his lightning-induced disappearance. His concern for her grief becomes a central reason for seeking a way home. 4 16 40 41
- Ying Xue — A transfer student at Star Academy who befriends Lu Mingyu after meeting him at a train station. 50
- Ying Menghan — Connected to Lu Mingyu’s childhood diary and an unopened letter; he has searched for her for years within the recalled memories. 50
Story Role / Major Arcs
Transmigration and Black Lantern Quicksilver
After gaining the Speed Force through lightning, Lu Mingyu is immediately drawn into Black Lantern Quicksilver’s pursuit of Tony Stark. He saves Tony from a burning suit, repeatedly flees Quicksilver, discovers his lightning attacks, and accepts that his new world is real rather than a dream. 4 5 6 7
Arrival at Avengers Tower
Tony invites Lu Mingyu to join the Avengers after he protects him and Doctor Strange. Lu Mingyu agrees to stay at Avengers Tower but refuses to sign the Sokovia Accords. Tony subsequently conceals his identity, creates an official cover identity, and begins preparing equipment for him. 11 12 16
Training with Spider-Man
Tony pairs Lu Mingyu with Spider-Man for increasingly difficult Iron Legion exercises. Lu Mingyu initially relies too heavily on speed and loses strategic advantage to Spider-Man’s web-based tactics, but the two become effective partners by adapting to speed suppression, hostile terrain, and specialized armor. 20 22 23 24 28
Alliance with Reverse-Flash
Reverse-Flash abducts Lu Mingyu to investigate his unusual Speed Force and initially considers killing him. Lu Mingyu’s knowledge of parallel worlds changes Thawne’s plans, leading to an alliance focused on training Lu and returning Thawne home. Together, they confront the Dark Blade and Black Lantern Quicksilver. 30 33 34 35
Dark Blade Crisis
During the crisis surrounding Black Lantern Quicksilver, Lu Mingyu’s body and power are repeatedly targeted by the Dark Blade. He chooses to save Quicksilver, Hawkeye, and Scarlet Witch from an explosion, then breaks another speed limit while rescuing civilians from Stark Tower’s collapse. 41 42 43 44
Sealed Memories
Later material reveals Lu Mingyu examining a childhood diary, recalling years spent seeking Ying Menghan, and meeting Ying Xue at Star Academy. He identifies himself as a “soy sauce student” and displays faint electrical sparks while running Ying Xue to school. 50
