Background

Pietro Maximoff had died saving people before the Black Lantern Ring resurrected him. The ring controls his undead body but does not completely erase his memories, reasoning, or remnants of his former personality. Its hosts must devour living hearts to sustain themselves. 17 37

The Black Lantern Ring and the Dark Blade originated from the rift connecting worlds: while pursued in the DC universe, the ring was knocked into the rift and the Dark Blade emerged alongside it. Their passage altered their properties in the Marvel world. 19 42

He remains intelligent and manipulative despite being controlled. He pressures Mordo into action, exploits Hawkeye and Lu Mingyu's doubts, and favors plans to isolate Avengers rather than face them together. His impatience and rage eventually turn him against Mordo. 29 42 49

Pietro's original emotions have not vanished entirely. Scarlet Witch's appeals to his love for family, peace, and the Avengers briefly allow him to resist the Ring before its control reasserts itself. 40 41
