Background / History

Itachi was still a child when Feng first considered the future value of his ocular techniques, believing that Itachi's Mangekyō powers would only emerge after Shisui's death. 2

Following Shisui's presumed death, Itachi became increasingly cold toward the Uchiha clan. He viewed its members as narrow-minded, obsessed with clan interests, and incapable of appreciating the Will of Fire. He instead treated Hiruzen Sarutobi as both a political ideal and a life mentor. 77

He returned to the Uchiha compound to confront Yashiro Uchiha, only to encounter the disguised Feng. Itachi immediately attempted to interrogate Feng with Sharingan genjutsu, but Feng's prepared Transcription Seal reflected the attack long enough for him to activate Susanoo. 80 The encounter exposed Itachi to Feng's knowledge of several Mangekyō users and prompted him to warn Hiruzen of the Uchiha clan's potential threat. 81 84

At the clan assembly, Itachi opposed Feng's bid for leadership. Feng publicly exposed Itachi's alleged willingness to work with Konoha against the clan, including a plan that would cost his parents their lives. Itachi did not defend his Uchiha identity and was expelled from the clan. 87 88

When Feng demanded the return of Itachi's Sharingan and Shisui's eye, Itachi refused. He openly activated his Mangekyō Sharingan, defended Fugaku and his family, and fought Feng with Perfect Susanoo while Feng bought time for the departing Uchiha to evacuate Konoha. 90 91 He ultimately surrendered his Mangekyō Sharingan during Feng's attack on Konoha to stop the destruction, but Danzō seized the eye instead. 93

Later reports stated that Itachi took Fugaku's Mangekyō Sharingan, joined Orochimaru and an unidentified Uchiha in killing the Uchiha who had remained in Konoha, then defected alongside Sasuke. 110 Despite this history, he later provided Konoha with intelligence on Kumogakure and Iwagakure's plans, revealing that he was acting as an undercover agent for the village. 237

Personality

Itachi's defining conviction is his loyalty to Konoha and the Will of Fire. He believes Hiruzen had already done everything possible for the clan and regards the Uchiha's resentment toward the village as proof of their own foolishness. 77 This loyalty repeatedly outweighs his attachment to the clan, even when it isolates him from his relatives and turns most Uchiha against him. 75 88

He is composed and restrained in battle. Against Izumi, he initially refrains from using Susanoo despite her escalating use of the Eight Gates, only relying on it when her attacks become too dangerous to handle conventionally. 208 209 Feng openly acknowledges Itachi's exceptional combat instincts even while condemning his judgment and allegiances. 205
