Background

Konoha was founded before Xuanhui's generation. Its establishment brought a period of peace among the major clans, who subsequently began advocating free love; Xuanhui was born from the mixed Uchiha, Uzumaki, Nara, and Yamanaka lineage that resulted from this social change. 1

Under Hiruzen Sarutobi, Konoha identifies and cultivates exceptional young shinobi. Hiruzen personally accepts Xuanhui as a student after learning he possesses four innate chakra natures, then later supports his advancement through academy examinations, frontline assignments, and a prospective jōnin application. 1 23 32 47

Second Shinobi World War

Escalation

Increasing border clashes lead Konoha to anticipate another war. Hiruzen recognizes the danger posed by Hidden Sand's growth, while Hidden Rain's expansion under Hanzō the Salamander threatens neighboring states. 5 6 13

Hidden Rain formally declares war on its neighboring countries, including Konoha, and combat begins along Konoha's border. Konoha also clashes with Hidden Sand, where Sakumo Hatake leads its forces into an advantageous position. 30 38

Hidden Rain Front

Jiraiya, Tsunade, and Orochimaru serve as Konoha's principal frontline commanders. During a Hidden Rain raid, Xuanhui transmits the enemy's positions directly to Konoha's jōnin, allowing the defenders to divide and defeat the attacking force. 34 35

Xuanhui subsequently destroys Hidden Rain's Outpost Number Eight, boosting Konoha's morale and easing pressure on the front through his combined intelligence, stealth, and combat capabilities. 36

When Hanzō personally attacks, he incapacitates much of Konoha's force with poison. Jiraiya, Tsunade, and Orochimaru endure the battle long enough for Hanzō to recognize them as “Konoha's Three Ninja.” 40

Strategic Victory and Stalemate

Xuanhui infiltrates Hidden Rain's rear area, loots medical supplies, destroys Hub Two's materials, and sabotages Hub One's armory. Hanzō mistakes the operation for a larger Konoha deployment and withdraws his forces behind Rainy Night Gorge. 43 45

Konoha chooses not to pursue into Rainy Night Gorge, whose narrow, fog-covered terrain favors defense. Instead, its forces maintain their position outside the gorge while Hidden Rain remains unable to counterattack freely. 45
