Background
Ron first appears at King’s Cross Station beside Molly Weasley, holding his pet rat Scabbers. He is visibly nervous but excited about beginning Hogwarts and helps Harry Potter reach Platform Nine and Three-Quarters. 2
He quickly becomes one of Harry’s closest companions. Ron is openly pleased when Harry is sorted into Gryffindor and repeatedly supports him against Draco Malfoy’s insults and broader hostility. 4 20
Appearance
Ron is a red-haired, freckled boy with a frequently untidy appearance.
- Dense freckles and red hair inherited from the Weasley family. 2
- Wears old robes, which Malfoy uses to mock his family’s financial situation. 4
- His hair is often disheveled; on one occasion, his uniform collar is fastened incorrectly. 62
Personality
Ron is impulsive, defensive, and highly sensitive to humiliation. He reacts strongly when his family, friends, or social standing are insulted, often confronting opponents despite being outmatched. During Harry’s isolation after Gryffindor loses points, Ron answers insults with insults and fights back even though he loses more often than he wins. 20
He is also easily frightened, influenced, or discouraged. He fears spiders, struggles to resist the Imperius Curse, is heavily affected by Veela and fox enchantment, and loses confidence rapidly when mocked during Quidditch. 63 116 130 259
Despite this, Ron can act with exceptional courage when others are in danger. He remains beside Harry and Hermione during Lockhart’s attack, then volunteers to cross the Chamber of Secrets battlefield alone to deliver the Sorting Hat to Su Yu. 49 50
- Food is a recurring priority; he risks being late to Hagrid’s lesson for chocolate cake. 62
- He enjoys attention and dramatically embellishes the story of Sirius Black entering Gryffindor Tower. 79
- Public embarrassment affects him deeply, particularly after his enchanted declaration of love for the Heavenly Nine-Tailed Fox becomes school-wide news. 155
Abilities & Skills
Spellcasting
Ron is capable of ordinary Hogwarts magic, but his wand control is inconsistent and prone to dangerous backfires.
- His attempt to cast Lumos causes his wand to explode and strike Professor Flitwick, costing Gryffindor twenty points. 34
- A retaliatory spell aimed at Draco Malfoy backfires, causing Ron to vomit slugs. 34
- He successfully uses Riddikulus against his Boggart, transforming a giant spider into one wearing roller skates. 63
- His resistance to the Imperius Curse is notably weak compared with the Slytherin students. 130
Courage Under Pressure
Ron acts decisively despite fear when his friends face immediate danger.
- During the Chamber of Secrets crisis, he stays with Harry and Hermione while aiming his wand at the hell-corrupted Lockhart. 49
- He carries the Sorting Hat through a battlefield filled with hellish lava, collapsing structures, and stray magical attacks. 50
- He throws the Hat to Su Yu after realizing it may contain the weapon needed to defeat Voldemort. 50
Quidditch
Ron becomes Gryffindor’s Keeper, though his confidence is fragile under public pressure.
- His poor practice performance includes hitting Katie with a Quidditch ball. 241
- Pansy’s mocking song causes him to concede six consecutive goals against Slytherin. 259
- Harry’s capture of the Snitch gives Gryffindor a 150–130 victory, preventing Ron’s disastrous performance from ending in defeat. 259

- As Gryffindor Keeper, Ron’s anxiety becomes a major weakness exploited by Slytherin’s supporters. 258 259
Arthur Weasley’s Injury
Harry’s vision of Arthur being attacked by a giant snake devastates Ron and the rest of the Weasley family. Ron is moved to Grimmauld Place with Harry, Fred, and George, where the family is forced to wait for news rather than risk exposing Harry’s connection to Voldemort. 265
