Loki is a green-robed Asgardian prince whose gloomy expression contrasts with a noticeably noble bearing. He is seen wearing golden horns and carrying a staff during his arrival at S.H.I.E.L.D.'s Cosmic Cube facility. 21 38

Personality

Loki is proud, theatrical, and deeply invested in being recognized as a god and rightful ruler. He reacts especially badly to disrespect from Chen Xu, Thor, Heimdall, and Thanos; insults to his legitimacy routinely provoke rage or retaliatory schemes. 21 22 23 26

He is also manipulative and calculating. Despite this caution, Loki's hatred of Chen Xu repeatedly overrides his strategy. During the Chitauri invasion, he redirects the fleet from conquering Earth to attacking Chen Xu, exposing his own position and leading to his capture. 44

History

Loki visits Thor during Thor's detention by S.H.I.E.L.D. and lies that Odin has died, Thor has failed his royal test, and the throne has passed to Loki. Thor falls into despair, while Loki leaves satisfied after unsuccessfully trying to lift Mjolnir. 21

After returning to Asgard, Loki discovers that Heimdall allowed the Warriors Three and Sif to travel to Earth. Viewing this as a challenge to his authority, he uses the Casket of Ancient Winters to freeze Heimdall and seal the Bifrost, then takes up Gungnir. 22 Pressured by a black-clad visitor who challenges his claim to Odin's throne and reveals his Frost Giant origin, Loki agrees to arrange Thor's death. 23

As king, Loki sends the Destroyer to Earth against Thor. He also targets Chen Xu after Chen Xu intervenes, channeling freezing power through the Destroyer when its initial assault fails. 23 24 After Thor regains his power and returns to Asgard, Loki battles him with Gungnir until Chen Xu uses Chaos Magic to strip both brothers of their ability to use magic. 24 25 A later fight between the brothers sends Loki lost into space. 26

Thanos recovers Loki but humiliates him as a “stray dog” rather than an equal ally. Loki nevertheless accepts Thanos's offer: command of an army and the Mind Scepter in exchange for delivering the Cosmic Cube and eventually helping locate the Infinity Stones. 26 27

Loki later steals the Cosmic Cube from S.H.I.E.L.D., controls Hawkeye and other agents, and escapes Chen Xu through a Space Stone portal. 38 He establishes a hidden New York base, uses controlled criminals to acquire titanium, and prepares a stable wormhole for the Chitauri invasion. 39 Although Chen Xu briefly captures him in Germany, Black Dwarf's intervention and Hawkeye's extraction allow Loki to escape. 40 41

From a hidden villa, Loki opens a wormhole above Stark Tower and releases the Chitauri army. 42 He conceals himself aboard an ordinary Chitauri warship, but his order to focus the entire fleet on Chen Xu reveals his location. Chen Xu reaches the ship, proves immune to the Mind Scepter's control, defeats Loki with one punch, and seizes the scepter. 44 Thor subsequently takes Loki and the Cosmic Cube back to Asgard after the Avengers close the wormhole. 45

Loki later escapes again following an attack connected to Thanos. Back on Earth, he controls Kingpin and begins building the Dark Alliance, using an evolution serum to strengthen his forces for revenge against the Avengers. 49 50
