Background
Ishigori was a dominant sorcerer of the Date Domain in the Mutsu Region four hundred years before the modern story. He never encountered a truly formidable opponent during his original life and returned through incarnation specifically to seek satisfying battles. Kashimo was among his intended opponents 52 67.
Kenjaku described Ishigori’s cursed energy output as exceptionally high. Kashimo had heard of him through Kenjaku but had been too old to investigate his strength personally 7. In the Culling Game, Ishigori became one of Sendai Colony’s Four Heavenly Kings alongside Takako Uro, Dhruv Lakdawalla, and Kurourushi. Their differing matchup advantages helped sustain the colony’s stalemate 7 411.
Appearance
- Large physique: His massive frame obscures much of the spectators’ view when he steps forward to challenge Sukuna, although he remains surprisingly nimble 446.
- Cannon-shaped pompadour: His signature hairstyle serves as the firing point for his Cursed Energy Cannons. It is also described as lightning-bolt-shaped 52 55 399.
- Visible energy buildup: Compressed cursed energy gathers and glows within the tips of his hair before he fires 399.
- Energy-dependent styling: His pompadour collapses when he loses the cursed energy supporting it 423.
Personality
Ishigori pursues the thrill of battle rather than wealth, social standing, or sorcerer supremacy. He describes satisfying combat as “sweetness” and eagerly welcomes powerful opponents, even when outnumbered. Naoya’s offer to help him establish himself in modern jujutsu society interests him far less than the prospect of fighting its Special Grade sorcerers 82 399 400.
He is boastful, competitive, and protective of his reputation. He reacts angrily to suggestions that another sorcerer is stronger, treats criticism of his accuracy as an insult, and becomes particularly furious when Naoya mocks his hairstyle 55 87 399. After footage of Jie Jian knocking him unconscious damages his public standing, he persistently seeks a rematch to prove himself 173.
His desire for a worthwhile fight can outweigh concern for his own survival. He says that battling Gojo would be worthwhile even if he died, and regrets learning that Yuta is supposedly no longer at full strength 408. He also notices that rain is affecting Kashimo and does not want that disadvantage to spoil their contest 83.
Despite Yuta’s assessment of him as an honest, “pure warrior,” Ishigori is capable of deception and ruthless opportunism in combat. He prepares a surprise cannon attack after his domain collapses and later tries to finish the helpless Uro after severing her arm 87 113 421 422.
Abilities & Skills
Cursed Energy Output
Ishigori’s cursed technique is the release of cursed energy, which he compresses into destructive projectiles 55 398.
- Exceptional output: Kenjaku singles out his output as unusually high. Naoya judges his destructive power to surpass Uro’s after experiencing it firsthand 7 398.
- Structural destruction: His bombardments shatter buildings, crater streets, and devastate rooftops 67 82 83.
- Burnout resilience: Cursed Technique Burnout does not prevent him from using Cursed Energy Cannon, because his technique is fundamentally cursed energy output 114.
- Not limitless reserves: His prolonged battle with Kashimo leaves him needing time to recover before another domain session 90.
- Outmatched in reserves: Jie Jian’s released cursed energy overwhelms him during their comparison before the Sukuna battle 55.
Cursed Energy Cannon
Ishigori fires concentrated cursed energy from his pompadour and can also release beams from his hands 63 83.
| Form | Function | Demonstrated Use |
|---|---|---|
| Detached projectile | A compressed mass of cursed energy fired in a fixed direction; travels straight after release 411. | Direct bombardment and barrages 399 411. |
| Connected stream | Maintains a cursed energy connection to Ishigori, allowing him to adjust its trajectory in midair 411. | Pursues Yuta, reverses direction behind Uro, and circles Ishigori as a defensive net 399 411 412. |
| Enhanced shell | Concentrates greater output into a single large projectile 413 421. | Fires shells over two meters wide against Yuta and over three meters wide against Kashimo 413 421. |
- Precision support: He targets Sukuna without hitting the nearby Jie Jian and destroys Sukuna’s foothold to create an opening 61 63.
- Rapid fire: He launches dozens of cannons in a barrage and continues firing between exchanges in close combat 399 413.
- Attack interception: His cannon destroys Yorozu’s liquid-metal barrier after it redirects Jie Jian’s electricity 63.
- Range and mobility limits: He cannot hit Yorozu while she carries Sukuna far away through the air 64.
- Spatial counter: Uro can distort and redirect his blasts. Sustained control and concentrated output make this harder, but do not eliminate her ability to defend 411 412 413.
- Electromagnetic interference: Kashimo disrupts ordinary shells’ trajectories with an electromagnetic field. Ishigori’s three-meter enhanced shell is too powerful for the same method to redirect 420 421.
- Close-range vulnerability: Yuta exploits his firing preparation during a domain clash; Sukuna similarly prevents him from bringing his cannon’s full power to bear inside a confined barrier 423 447.
Domain Expansion
Ishigori possesses a Domain Expansion decorated with fireworks. Inside it, he can freely redirect his cursed energy output 90.
- Guaranteed tracking: Its guaranteed-hit effect automatically tracks opponents 90.
- Manual control remains available: When Jie Jian neutralizes the guaranteed hit with Hollow Wicker Basket, Ishigori still turns a cannon blast 180 degrees to strike his back 90.
- Technique Disclosure: Explaining the domain’s effect increases his cannon’s speed and power 90.
- Effective pressure: Kashimo emerges from their domain battle heavily burned and nearly depleted, while Ishigori has only minor visible injuries 87.
- Domain clashes: His domain and Yuta’s Authentic Mutual Love neutralize each other’s guaranteed-hit effects 423.
- Disruption: Multi-party interference can shatter or interrupt his domain clashes 114 413 414.
Close Combat and Durability
- Reinforced strikes: A fully committed, cursed-energy-coated punch makes Sukuna slide half a step backward 446.
- Simultaneous offense: He exchanges punches with Rika while firing at Yuta, Uro, and Dhruv’s shikigami 414.
- Endurance: He continues fighting after Yuta punches him across a rooftop and after Kashimo sends him through multiple building walls 413 421.
- Speed disadvantage: Yuta and Sukuna both exploit superior close-range speed to inflict decisive injuries 423 446 447.
- External healing: Yuta treats his severe sword wound using externally applied Reverse Cursed Technique 424.
Combat Analysis
- Projection Sorcery counter: Without fully understanding Naoya’s technique, Ishigori recognizes that its movement follows restrictive rules. He surrounds himself with circling cannons, forcing Naoya into a collision and triggering his one-second freeze 399.
- Opponent assessment: He notices the rain’s effect on Kashimo’s cursed energy during their battle 83.
- Situational deduction: He correctly infers that Naoya’s earlier dealings with Uro caused her to intervene on Yuta’s side 411.
- Burnout feint: After his domain breaks, he secretly prepares a cannon to catch Kashimo expecting him to be unable to attack 87.
Relationships
- Jie Jian — Rival and occasional ally. Ishigori supports him against Sukuna in an earlier challenge, later provides a domain sparring session, and repeatedly demands rematches after being defeated by his Black Flash 55 61 90 119 173.
- Hajime Kashimo — Contemporary and sought-after opponent. Their Sendai duel leaves Kashimo in worse condition, though in the later Sendai storyline Kashimo’s speed and electromagnetic interference put Ishigori under pressure 52 87 420 421.
- Takako Uro — Fellow Sendai Four Heavenly King and recurring opponent. Her Sky Manipulation counters his cannon fire; he eventually severs her right arm and attempts to kill her before Yuta intervenes 87 411 421 422.
- Yuta Okkotsu — Opponent, healer, and fellow participant in later battle preparations. Yuta defeats him during a domain clash but saves his life, reasoning that killing him would accomplish nothing 55 423 424.
- Naoya Zenin — Defeated opponent and temporary collaborator. Naoya secures his cooperation by offering information about Yuta and the prospect of fighting Gojo, rather than through political incentives 399 400 407 408.
- Ryomen Sukuna — Coveted opponent and the cause of his death in an earlier challenge. In a later confrontation, Sukuna acknowledges his striking power before defeating him 67 446 447.
- Satoru Gojo — Desired opponent. Ishigori presses Jie Jian to arrange their promised fight and later becomes excited when Naoya describes Gojo as the strongest sorcerer of the modern age 102 408.
