Stage / Realm / Level Chapter Notes
“Monkey” — ordinary-person baseline 1 Begins with extremely scarce Cursed Energy, no Cursed Technique, and no skills. Can barely see Cursed Spirits.
Initial Cursed Energy and durability increases 2 3 Repeated fatal falls earn small amounts of Cursed Energy and increased damage resistance. These accumulated rewards let him survive landing in the sea on his tenth attempt.
Cursed Energy awakening 3 His desperate desire to survive draws out blue Cursed Energy. He punches away a fish Cursed Spirit and reinforces his body enough to swim ashore.
Grade 4 Sorcerer 4 Receives a moderate Cursed Energy reward after repelling the fish spirit and subsequently dying in an ambush. His panel lists Grade 4 rank and Cursed Energy.
Reliable Cursed Energy control 5 A System reward lets him draw on ordinary negative emotions rather than depend on an emotional crisis. Full-body reinforcement allows a jump exceeding three meters.
Special Grade 18 The System credits Sukuna’s actions while occupying his body to Akuta, including Kashimo’s defeat. Gains Special Grade Cursed Energy, The Unbreakable Thunderbear, and Reverse Cursed Technique.
Intensified lightning stimulation 32 Discovers that stronger electrical stimulation produces much greater speed, at the cost of bodily damage that he can repair with Reverse Cursed Technique.
Cursed Technique Release demonstrated 47 Defeats Mahoraga using his giant thunder-bear transformation and survives its normally fatal aftermath by reconstructing his body.
Hollow Wicker Basket 89 Grasps the technique while enduring Takako Uro’s guaranteed-hit attacks and successfully neutralizes her domain’s sure-hit effect.
Elementalization demonstrated 122 Repairs his pierced chest with Elementalization while using Reverse Cursed Technique on his palm.
Domain Expansion demonstrated 170 Opens a domain against Sukuna, who destroys it from outside using an Open Domain.
Vector Manipulation demonstrated 173 Blasts Ryu Ishigori away during his return to a completed Jujutsu world.
Shadow-Shadow Fruit 283 Eats the fruit after Gecko Moria’s death. Uses Mirror Replication to practice shadow shapes and quickly develops a Shadow Propeller.
Armament Haki demonstrated 327 Trades Haki-coated punches with King. By their fourth battle, he can block King’s full-strength kick and match his attacks without either gaining an immediate advantage 348.

Background / History

Akuta was a modern-day worker and Jujutsu Kaisen reader before his transmigration. While watching a short video, he chose Special Grade strength and participation in the Culling Game over a happy romantic ending. His phone then pulled him into a white System Space, where he learned that his objective was to defeat Sukuna before returning home 1 9 28.

Despite the advertised reward, he initially possessed almost no usable power. The System explained that he would develop Special Grade strength by adapting to the Jujutsu world. Its unlimited challenge resets allowed him to retain skills, experience, and memories after death, while performance-based rewards gradually increased his strength 1.

Personality

Akuta treats combat like a game, describing himself as a “skill-based player” even when overwhelming reserves, reinforcement, and healing give him a considerable statistical advantage. He enjoys boasting, provoking opponents, and staging dramatic moments; he once shouted “Black Flash” without successfully producing one, then later delivered an apparent dying speech despite remaining alive 20 21 23 41 42.

His confidence is learned rather than absolute. His first deaths leave him frightened and reluctant to retry, and Sukuna’s initial appearance still unnerves him. Once reassured by his reset ability, however, he actively seeks dangerous opponents for rewards, experience, and information 2 6 13.

His willingness to experiment can become reckless. He deliberately lets Garuda pierce his body simply to feel its strength, prompting Yuki Tsukumo to rebuke his disregard for life. He nevertheless protects others when it matters, preventing Sukuna from taking Megumi and later drawing Mahoraga into the sky to avoid nearby homes and pedestrians 41 122 488.

Abilities & Skills

System and Challenge Resets

Akuta’s System provides repeatable challenges, post-death evaluations, and rewards based on his performance 1 2.

  • Unlimited retries: Death during his original Culling Game challenge returns him to System Space to begin again 1.
  • Retained progress: Skills, experience, and memories persist between attempts 1.
  • Technique rewards: Defeating a different sorcerer can grant a related Cursed Technique; harder battles improve the chance. The System places no numerical limit on rewarded techniques and permits him to use them freely 5.
  • Protected origin: Sukuna cannot read memories preceding Akuta’s arrival in the Culling Game, even after possessing him 15.
  • World access: Later gains the option to select challenges from different worlds and revisit completed challenge worlds 173.
  • Limit: Time does not reset in System Space, and death there cannot be undone through the challenge-restart mechanic 19.

The Unbreakable Thunderbear

His first Cursed Technique is a lightning-based reward derived from Kashimo’s abilities. It reinforces his body and combines repeated strikes, electrical marks, healing, and area attacks 18.

  • Physical enhancement: Lightning increases speed, strength, and defense; active stimulation can push these enhancements further 18 32.
  • Lightning Field: Five normal attacks activate a surrounding field whose lightning automatically pursues enemies within range 18 22.
  • Empowered strikes: Can concentrate lightning around his palm to strengthen his next attack and introduce a stunning current into an opponent 18 24.
  • Lightning marks: Striking a marked enemy with another lightning attack causes additional damage, drains the target’s Cursed Energy, and automatically heals Akuta through Reverse Cursed Technique 18.
  • Storm interaction: Under cloudy skies, can call down area lightning that replenishes his Cursed Energy and supplies a lightning shield 18.
  • Thunder Cannon: Uses a powerful ranged blast to heavily damage Sukuna’s body 59.
  • Resistance limits: Although initially described as immune to lightning, his protection proves less complete than Kashimo’s. Their electrical effects largely counter one another, and Kashimo’s thunderstorm leaves him badly burned 18 24.

Cursed Technique Release

Akuta can transform his body into a gigantic lightning form, witnessed by Panda as a giant thunder bear 18 47.

  • Greatly increases his physical attributes and continuously releases wide-area lightning attacks 18.
  • Converts his flesh into a special lightning-energy form, leaving his body destroyed when the release ends 47.
  • Can survive by repairing his brain and main torso with Reverse Cursed Technique before death; doing so after defeating Mahoraga leaves him severely injured and exhausted 18 47.

Reverse Cursed Technique and Elementalization

Akuta inherits highly effective Reverse Cursed Technique through the rewards generated by Sukuna’s occupation of his body 18.

  • Heals a substantial arm wound in roughly three seconds during his spar with Charlie 20.
  • Rejoins his bisected body after Panda places the halves together, using Cursed Energy from the lower half to make the repair possible 42.
  • Rebuilds his body after Cursed Technique Release, though treatment and recovery are still needed afterward 47.
  • Later uses Elementalization to repair a chest wound separately from the Reverse Cursed Technique used on his palm 122.
  • Limit: At the hospital, he lacks Reverse Cursed Technique Output and cannot directly heal Yuji’s severed finger 42.

Domain Techniques

Akuta initially has neither Domain Expansion nor an anti-domain technique, making Kenjaku’s Womb Profusion a severe threat 44.

  • Hollow Wicker Basket: Learns to neutralize guaranteed-hit effects while trapped in Uro’s domain 89.
  • Domain Expansion: Later deploys a domain against Sukuna, but its exterior is destroyed by Sukuna’s Open Domain 170.
  • Innate Domain training: Creates a valley filled with swords inside a white space, allowing Miwa to practice repeated combat against him 211.

Vector Manipulation and Movement

Akuta later demonstrates Vector Manipulation and several methods of rapid movement 151 173.

  • Blasts Ryu Ishigori away with Vector Manipulation 173.
  • Uses wind to close distance on Sukuna 151.
  • Catches a slash between his wrists and sends it back toward Sukuna 151.
  • Repeatedly teleports behind Sukuna during their battle 59.

Soul and Shared-Body Abilities

Akuta can operate through bodies shared with other souls. Mahito identifies him and Maki as separate souls occupying the same body 261.

  • Controls Miwa’s body while attempting to demonstrate Black Flash 192.
  • Displays the strength of the Heavenly Tyrant through Maki’s body, moving too quickly for Mahito to activate Idle Transfiguration against him 261.
  • Reveals that his soul contains a Cursed Technique 451.
  • Uses Maki’s soul to reactivate her connection with Mai, restoring a faint trace of Cursed Energy 451.

Shadow-Shadow Fruit

After eating the Shadow-Shadow Fruit, Akuta develops shadow-based movement, constructs, and clone tactics 283 296.

  • Shadow Propulsion / Shadow Propeller: Uses shadows to accelerate himself and propel driftwood across the sea 283 296.
  • Shadow Mage: Creates a shadow clone to fight alongside him or attack from another direction 296 337.
  • Shadow Transposition: Swaps places with Shadow Mage, including to evade a finishing blow and attack from above 296.
  • Shadow weapons: Forms spikes, blades, and punches; kills a Haki-defended pirate leader by driving spikes through his eyes 296 324 348.
  • Defensive constructs: Creates shadow walls, though King’s Flame Dragon Emperor burns through them 337.
  • Shadow Diving Suit: Pursues Jack underwater, but the suit has a limited oxygen supply 324.

Combat Instruction

Akuta teaches through direct practice, controlled danger, and repeated sparring 192 211 479.

  • Explains Black Flash as the resonance of Cursed Energy, body, and soul, but repeatedly fails to produce it during his demonstration to Miwa 192.
  • Trains Miwa for ten days in his Innate Domain; she develops the instinct to anticipate his movements and counterattack 211.
  • Awakens Tomoya Aki’s Cursed Energy through repeated drops from the sky, then teaches her to sustain it around her hand and while running 479.

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Thunder Scale Armor — Worn after restoring faint Cursed Energy in Maki’s body; he then asks Little Deer to supply all its Cursed Energy 451.
  • Playful Cloud — Uses it to shield Naobito from Jogo’s flames 246.
  • Sword — Uses sword strikes while attempting to demonstrate Black Flash through Miwa 192.
  • G Staff, borrowed briefly — Charlie lends him the fountain pen that becomes the staff, but Akuta cannot channel his Cursed Energy into it and returns it 20.

Relationships

  • Ryomen Sukuna — Original challenge target and recurring enemy. Possesses Akuta during an early attempt, inadvertently enabling his Special Grade rewards; later vows to kill him after Akuta ruins his attempt to take Megumi 15 18 41.
  • Hajime Kashimo — Early information contact, rival, and later companion. Initially allows Sukuna to possess Akuta for the sake of fighting him; Akuta kills him in a subsequent challenge, while later encounters show them together again 6 15 25 89 102.
  • Yuji Itadori — Ally who calls him “Big Brother.” Akuta protects him during the struggle over Sukuna’s finger, but also deceives him with an apparent death scene 41 42.
  • Megumi Fushiguro — Prevents Sukuna from taking his body in the hospital; later tells him that Toji is his father 41 246.
  • Panda — Ally who helps reassemble Akuta’s severed body and brings him to Shoko after the Mahoraga battle 42 47.
  • Satoru Gojo — Powerful prospective opponent. Agrees to a promised fight after Sukuna’s death and later recognizes that Akuta has grown stronger 102 173.
  • Takako Uro — Close companion and training partner. Her attacks help him understand Hollow Wicker Basket; she blushes at his remarks about their relationship and leaves wearing his coat 89 102.
  • Ryu Ishigori — Combat ally and persistent challenger. Provides planned ranged support against Sukuna and later seeks another fight with Akuta 56 173.
  • Maki Zenin — Shares her body with him during a challenge. Their partnership includes combat, restoring her connection to Mai, and his guidance through cooking her first meal 261 426 451.
  • Kasumi Miwa — Student and shared-body partner. Trains against him in his Innate Domain; he later enthusiastically recounts her victory over Kenjaku 192 211 221.
  • Shoko Ieiri — Treats his extensive injuries after Cursed Technique Release and is astonished that he remains alive 47.
  • Tomoya Aki — Student whose Cursed Energy he awakens. Hosts him overnight, prepares rice balls before his departure, and asks him to visit again 479.

Trivia

  • Akuta recognizes The Unbreakable Thunderbear as the skill set of Volibear from League of Legends and complains that the System has barely changed it 18.
  • Before understanding his circumstances, he wonders whether his name’s resemblance to Akutami’s is responsible for his transmigration and promises to change it if he returns home 1.
