Background / History

Following the Nine-Tails Attack and the Fourth Hokage's death, Konoha is described as outwardly strong but internally weakened. The vacant Hokage position becomes the focus of competition among major clans, including the Hyuga and Uchiha, before Sarutobi Hiruzen returns to office. 2 3

Konoha's recovery is burdened by reconstruction, depleted elite forces, the departure of the Three Sannin, and distrust between its leadership, clans, and civilians. Its advantageous Land of Fire location also leaves it exposed to threats from multiple neighboring villages. 19 35

During the war with Kumogakure and later the combined pressure of Kumogakure and Iwagakure, Konoha suffers severe losses and political infighting. The Hyuga and Uchiha clans become central to its defense, eventually gaining public recognition as the village's heroes. 46 62 79 82

The Hyuga Clan ultimately rejects Konoha's authority, scratches off its forehead protectors, and departs with Hyuga Hitoshi after he declares that the clan will not sacrifice its members for the Byakugan. 101 Hitoshi later engineers an attack by the Hamura Otsutsuki Statue that allows the Uchiha to lead Konoha's defense and elevate Fugaku's standing. 104

Following another disaster and reconstruction period, Uchiha Fugaku becomes Konoha's Fifth Hokage. Under his administration, Konoha hosts the First Shinobi World Summit and becomes a major venue for international diplomacy. 107 119 132 133

Five years after the summit, Konoha exists in an era of rapid development and relative peace, though Danzo's reanimation-based rebellion again threatens the village. Its clans and Military Police Force coordinate to repel and seal the reanimated attackers. 137 143
