Background / History

Reincarnation and military service

Xu Feng was a modern gamer reincarnated into the Douluo world as the neglected Second Prince of the Sun Moon Empire. Enfeoffed as the Prince of Qin, he lacked the empire’s prestigious hereditary martial souls and was disregarded by both Emperor Xu Yuan and Crown Prince Xu Tianran despite his capability. 1

His restrictive Currency War martial soul forced him to spend years fighting in the military to build practical strength. Two years before his academy enrollment, he led the Mysterious Armored Army against the Douling Empire, nearly destroying it before the Sun Moon Emperor accepted a peace treaty that transferred major territory to the empire. 1

Xu Feng saved Jiang Nannan’s seriously ill mother after her hometown became part of the ceded territory. Jiang Nannan subsequently entered his household as his personal maid, though he treated her safety and status as matters directly tied to his own honor. 1

Academy and the Sky Curtain

Ordered to attend the Sun Moon Royal Soul Guidance Academy and win the Soul Master Tournament, Xu Feng accepted despite considering the assignment politically unnecessary. He became a conspicuous academy figure, repeatedly fleeing groups of admirers who idolized him as the Prince of Qin. 1 2

A Sky Curtain created by Aha later transported Xu Feng into a cross-era comparison arena alongside Tang San and Tang Wulin. The display identified Xu Feng’s future self as the Celestial Emperor, stating that he would conquer the realm, destroy the God Realm, and establish the Celestial Court by age twenty. 4

Xu Feng defeated Tang San by summoning March 7th and Dan Heng—Imbibitor Lunae, activating the Astral Express bond and forcing Tang San’s immediate surrender. He received the List of Gods as the competition’s first-place reward. 5 6

Xuanwu Gate Incident

After the Sky Curtain exposed his future, Xu Feng accepted Meng Hongchen’s plan to overthrow Xu Tianran before the latter could eliminate him. He entered the imperial palace through Xuanwu Gate with 800 soldiers and loyal generals, while Liao Mengkai volunteered to bear historical blame should the operation be condemned as rebellion. 7

Emperor Xu Yuan unexpectedly approved the succession coup and instructed Xu Feng to kill Xu Tianran. At Xuanwu Gate, Xu Feng summoned Tingyun, Huohuo, and Dan Heng to activate the Xianzhou bond, then used the Lightning-Wielding Thunder-Claping Spirit to kill Xu Tianran and seize the position of Crown Prince. 7

Meng Hongchen became Crown Princess, Jiang Nannan became his secondary consort, and Liao Mengkai became the first person named on Xu Feng’s Conferment of Gods List. 7

Recruitment and inter-era travel

Concerned that Huo Yuhao could become an uncontrolled “son of fortune,” Xu Feng sought him out in the Star Luo Great Forest and discovered that this timeline’s counterpart was a girl named Huo Yutong. He persuaded her to join him by exposing her abuse in the White Tiger Duke’s Mansion and offering the resources needed to pursue revenge herself. 12 13

Xu Feng later traveled ten thousand years into the past through the Skyscreen’s portal system, taking Gu Yena with him. While Gu Yena went to merge with her past self at the Lake of Life, Xu Feng explored Douluo I and involved himself in Heaven Dou City’s conflicts. 15 16

Divine order and tournament campaign

Using the List of Gods as political leverage, Xu Feng secured Yaoling’s sacrifice for Huo Yutong and elevated Yaoling into a divine official after his death. Yaoling’s appointment as one of the Ten Yama Kings created a Netherworld and reincarnation system that drew in wandering and imprisoned souls across the continent. 28

Xu Feng also negotiated with the Evil Eye Tyrant, accepting the Evil Eye Clan’s service and its offer to help eliminate Evil Soul Masters. Privately, he planned to use the List of Gods to restrict the tyrant’s future cultivation and prevent rebellion. 30

He treats the Soul Master Tournament as both a demonstration of Sun Moon strength and preparation for continental unification. During the tournament, he swept the Heavenly Soul Royal Academy’s lineup, defeated Long Aotian with Baie’s power, and personally recognized Qin Shubao as an exceptional warrior worth recruiting. 25 38

Personality

Xu Feng combines a modern moral outlook with a calculating imperial temperament. Although attracted to Jiang Nannan, he refuses to exploit her dependent status or their age difference, and he consistently frames her protection as his responsibility. 1

He is playful, easily embarrassed, and prone to irreverent humor—particularly regarding transformations that alter his appearance—but becomes highly focused when confronting political threats or combat. His willingness to recruit, bargain with, and manipulate powerful figures reflects an interest in long-term control rather than simple destruction. 2 13 30

Xu Feng can be merciless toward enemies who attempt to kill him. After surviving an ambush by seven Spirit Saints, he refused their surrender and eliminated the entire squad, regarding their decision to attack as an acceptance of death. 39

His ambition to conquer the continent is presented as an attempt to end recurring wars under a single authority, shaped by his firsthand experience of battlefields, ruined homes, and civilian suffering. 25

Abilities & Skills

Currency War Martial Soul

Xu Feng’s martial soul is a summoning-type ability linked directly to his game account. It can refresh a pool of five characters, summon spirit-power bodies, grant possession forms, and activate stronger effects through character bonds. 1 2

  • Initially restricted to directly controlling three-star characters; his early usable three-star characters were March 7th and General Yaoguang. 1
  • All available character appearances are unlocked, and their favorability toward him is maximized. 2
  • A summoned body retains the original person’s soul and memories despite being formed from Xu Feng’s spirit power. 2
  • Random refreshes can leave him with unsuitable options, as when a combat selection produced mostly fox-related characters. 3

Possession Forms

Xu Feng can borrow a companion’s power and transform into their appearance, equipment, and combat style. These transformations can also alter his mentality. 2 3

  • March 7th — Grants her abilities, but transforms Xu Feng into her pink-haired, skirt-wearing appearance; he avoids this form out of embarrassment. 2
  • Blade — Provides the Shattered Sword, extreme regeneration, Mara-Struck Power, and a reckless injury-for-injury sword style. Its suppressed madness nearly caused Xu Feng to kill Ji Juechen during a spar. 3
  • Archer / Red A — Grants Projection, allowing Xu Feng to create weapons such as a black longbow, Hrunting, and a motorcycle. 7 15
  • Trailblazer, Path of Elation — A three-star version of Xu Feng whose strength fluctuates unpredictably and can turn reality into an exaggerated internal-monologue setting. 15
  • Baie — Grants the greatsword Chenbreak and a powerful sword-focused combat form used to defeat Long Aotian. 38
  • Wandi — Grants the passive ability Undying, allowing Xu Feng to survive attacks that should be fatal. 39

Bond Manifestations

Specific combinations of summoned companions create powerful external manifestations. 5 7 17

  • Astral Express bond — March 7th and Dan Heng—Imbibitor Lunae can manifest the Astral Express itself. 5
  • Xianzhou bond — Tingyun, Huohuo, and Dan Heng summon the Lightning-Wielding Thunder-Claping Spirit, which killed Xu Tianran. 7
  • Wolf-hunt setup — Jiaoqiu, Moze, Lingsha, and Hulay form a powerful wolf-themed lineup; Hulay effortlessly overwhelmed three Titled Douluo. 17

List of Gods

The List of Gods allows Xu Feng to grant divinity to any named being, including weak spirit beasts. 6

  • Used to elevate Liao Mengkai as the first name on the Conferment of Gods List. 7
  • Allowed Yaoling to become a god through sacrifice and later serve as a Ten Yama King. 28
  • Serves as Xu Feng’s primary bargaining tool when dealing with soul beasts and potential allies. 28 30
  • Can bind politically unreliable beneficiaries by limiting their future cultivation. 30

Martial Arts and Swordsmanship

Even without activating his martial soul, Xu Feng possesses refined hand-to-hand combat skill, speed, and battlefield instincts. 17

  • Defeated five Spirit King guards barehanded while protecting Xiao Wu and Ning Rongrong. 17
  • Defeated Long Aotian and several Heavenly Soul Royal Academy members in succession using Baie’s sword form. 38
  • Fought Qin Shubao for more than one hundred exchanges while deliberately limiting lethal intent to test his potential. 38

Political and Strategic Ability

Xu Feng is an experienced commander and manipulator who treats alliances, divine rewards, warfare, and public spectacle as interconnected tools of rule. 1 7 25

  • Led the Mysterious Armored Army in a campaign that nearly destroyed the Douling Empire. 1
  • Accepted and executed the Xuanwu Gate coup with a limited force of 800 soldiers and internal support. 7
  • Recruited Huo Yutong by framing his resources as her only realistic path to revenge. 13
  • Uses the Soul Master Tournament to display Sun Moon power and shape public opinion before a continental campaign. 25

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • List of Gods / Conferment of Gods List — Divine roster capable of granting godhood to named beings. 6 7
  • Crown Prince Token — Storage Soul Tool and communication device; Xu Feng also uses it to monitor its holder and test inter-era connectivity. 11
  • Soul pistol — Used to ensure the Nether Douluo remained dead after Yanqing cut him down. 26
  • Chenbreak — Baie’s greatsword, wielded through possession. 38
  • Shattered Sword — Blade’s cracked but lethal sword, wielded through possession. 3

Relationships

  • Meng Hongchen — Political wife, Crown Princess, and closest political supporter. Her trust helped Xu Feng commit to the Xuanwu Gate coup; the Sky Curtain identifies her as his future Empress and Heavenly Queen. 7 8
  • Jiang Nannan — Personal maid, trusted companion, and later secondary consort. Xu Feng saved her mother and treats offenses against her as offenses against himself. 1 7
  • March 7th — Astral Express partner who remains emotionally connected to him through a spirit-power body. She documents his life, teases him, and promises aid in danger. 2
  • Xiao Hongchen — Friend, refuge from academy admirers, and future right-hand man. Xu Feng supports Xiao’s civilian-oriented soul-tool research despite their frequent sarcasm. 2 23
  • Ji Juechen — Subordinate, recurring sparring partner, and sword-obsessed ally. Xu Feng fears Blade’s influence after nearly killing him during their duel. 3 18
  • Huo Yutong — Recruited protégé and “Daughter of Destiny.” She calls him “Brother Feng,” relies on his protection and resources, and seeks the tournament victory partly for herself. 13 14 26
  • Gu Yena — Soul beast ally who grows dependent on Xu Feng. He accompanies her during her journey to merge with her past self and supports her hope of achieving godhood for soul beasts. 15
  • Wang Dong’er — Tournament teammate who challenges Xu Feng’s conquest plans. Their future relationship is confirmed through Tang Wulin, whom she recognizes as her future son with Xu Feng. 25 37
  • Tang Wulin — Xu Feng’s future son. Xu Feng initially notices an unexplained resemblance, while Wulin later chooses to remain in Xu Feng’s era to spend time with him and meet his mother. 4 36 37
  • Xu Yuan — Father and Sun Moon Emperor. Though he neglected Xu Feng for years, he supports Xu Feng’s seizure of succession and orders him to eliminate Xu Tianran. 1 7
  • Xu Tianran — Elder brother and rival Crown Prince. Xu Tianran repeatedly sought to assassinate Xu Feng before being killed during the Xuanwu Gate Incident. 5 7
  • Sun Wukong — Future disciple who recognizes Xu Feng beneath the Celestial Emperor’s disguise. Their apparent rebellion is revealed as a controlled lesson between master and disciple. 35

Notable Quotes

“You ask me why I must stir up war? Perhaps I should take you to see a real battlefield. For the past ten thousand years on the Douluo Continent, war has never truly stopped.” 25

Trivia

  • Xu Feng avoids borrowing March 7th’s power because the possession form would put him in her skirt and hairstyle. 2
  • His possession of Blade is powerful enough to outheal Ji Juechen’s attacks, but its violent mentality makes it one of his most dangerous forms. 3
  • He compares Huo Yutong’s precognitive evasion and wrist-fired spider silk to “Spider-Man.” 14 24
  • The Sky Curtain’s revelation of his future causes Shrek Academy to consider assassinating him, while soul beasts begin treating him as a potential ally against the God Realm. 4
