Background / History

The Sky Curtain selects Tang San as the Douluo I era’s protagonist alongside Xu Feng and Tang Wulin. It identifies his future self as an otherworld soul transmigrator, a member of the first-generation Shrek Seven Monsters, the Sea God, the Asura God King, and a God Realm Enforcer among the Five God Kings 4.

At age twelve, Tang San enters the comparison arena as a rank-29 control-system Great Soul Master. He initially believes his Blue Silver Binding has secured victory against the age-adjusted Xu Feng, but Xu Feng summons March 7th and Dan Heng to activate the Astral Express bond. Tang San immediately surrenders when the Astral Express charges toward him 5.

Tang Wulin defeats Tang San even more decisively in the following match. Tang San finishes third in the competition and loses both the Purple Demon Eye and all knowledge of its cultivation method 6. His subsequent accusation that Xu Feng cheated is rejected because the summons are ruled a legitimate function of the Currency War martial soul; Tang San is then punished for malicious reporting with repeated heavenly lightning strikes 7.

Later Sky Curtain revelations contradict the history known in later eras: Tang San is declared never to have married Xiao Wu. Personality

Tang San is cautious and calculating when faced with unfamiliar threats. Upon entering the Sky Curtain arena, he immediately evaluates Xu Feng and Tang Wulin for weaknesses and considers whether his techniques and hidden weapons could overcome them 4.

He reacts poorly to public defeat and punishment. After losing to Xu Feng, he claims the summoning ability was cheating rather than accepting the ruling; after the complaint is rejected, he is punished for malicious reporting 6 7. He similarly directs his resentment at Tang Qingqing after her defeat causes his cultivation speed to be halved 10.

His strategic thinking is frequently self-interested. During the strongest-spirit-beast comparison, he selects the Deep Sea Demon Whale King partly because it is hostile to Ditian and the future Celestial Court, making it a more politically convenient choice than a Star Dou Great Forest beast 31. The Sky Curtain’s declaration that Tang San never marries Xiao Wu destabilizes later historical accounts and leads to rumors about his fabricated romance.
