History

The Celestial Court is foretold as the divine order established by Xu Feng after he unifies the realm at eighteen and destroys the God Realm at twenty. Xu Feng then ascends as the Celestial Emperor, while Meng Hongchen becomes Heavenly Empress. 4 8

Its creation is enabled in part by the List of Gods, a reward awarded to Xu Feng after the Sky Curtain Comparison Arena. The list contains 365 divine positions and can grant divinity even to weak spirit beasts. 6

Xu Feng uses the List of Gods to integrate soul beasts into his emerging order. Yaoling becomes the first soul beast in a million years to attain godhood and is appointed as one of the Ten Yama Kings, overseeing the trial of souls. This appointment manifests a Netherworld and reincarnation system across the continent. 28

The Netherworld later expands when the Evil Eye Tyrant becomes King Songdi of the Third Hall, responsible for punishment in the Black Rope Great Hell. Yaoling judges souls according to good and evil, while King Songdi administers punishment. 31

Divine Offices and Governance

The Celestial Court possesses 365 divine positions, distributed through Xu Feng’s List of Gods. The list can elevate humans and soul beasts alike, including souls that have sacrificed their physical bodies. 6 28

Its immortals rely on mortal incense offerings to continue cultivating, and may spend incense offerings to exchange for treasures. 10

The Court’s offices are specialized rather than purely ceremonial. Its known administration includes public welfare, warfare, disciplinary punishment, the Thunder Department, food service for the Flat Peach Feast, and Netherworld governance. 18 19 28 31

Havoc in Heaven

In the future, Sun Wukong assaults the Celestial Court after resenting his appointment as the low-ranking Bimawen. The Court deploys one hundred thousand heavenly soldiers and generals, the Twenty-Eight Mansions, the Giant Spirit God, and the Four Heavenly Kings against him. 33 35

Sun Wukong devastates the defensive force, defeating the Giant Spirit God, dispersing the Twenty-Eight Mansions, and destroying the Four Heavenly Kings’ weapons and mounts. He also defeats Yuezheng Yu before Tang Wulin intercepts him. 33

The apparent rebellion is ultimately revealed to be a controlled lesson arranged by Xu Feng. Xu Feng accepts Wukong’s challenge to escape his palm, reveals that Wukong never left it, and suppresses him beneath a mountain using Palm-Universe Buddha Kingdom. Wukong recognizes Xu Feng as his master and accepts five hundred years of reflection—a period equivalent to roughly a day and a half from the Celestial Court’s perspective. 35
