Ch. 241The Supernovas
Key plot points and events
- Drunk Marshall Rogge, the Shichibukai known as Asura, defeats two Supernovas with wine bottles: he sends Apoo crashing through buildings, then destroys Kid’s massive metal arm and knocks Kid away with a second blow.
- Kid is left bloodied and unable to move freely under Rogge’s overwhelming pressure. Rogge approaches the fallen pirates, apparently intent on continuing the fight.
- Nearby Supernovas Drake, Luo, Urouge, and Killer see Apoo and Kid thrown into the street. They realize their attacker must be exceptionally powerful and prepare for trouble.
- At Shakuyaku’s bar, she warns Luffy’s crew to avoid Rogge. Brook and Chopper recognize him from the battle at Thriller Bark and recall his immense strength; Luffy, however, cannot remember him and casually dismisses the warning.
- Rogge confronts the assembled Supernovas, insulting them as “trash” for disturbing his drinking. Drake and Luo retreat, recognizing that facing a Shichibukai is especially dangerous.
Character developments and interactions
- Rogge is introduced as both terrifyingly strong and casually cruel: even while drunk, he toys with Kid and Apoo using a bottle, then challenges the others.
- Kid reacts with fury and wounded pride after being struck, but his strength proves no match for Rogge.
- Apoo is also quickly overwhelmed, shocking the other Supernovas.
- Drake and Luo respond cautiously, assessing the danger and backing away once they identify Rogge.
- Urouge calmly speculates about the attacker’s strength, while Killer rushes to help Kid.
- Brook and Chopper remember Rogge’s frightening power and urgently warn Luffy. Luffy remains unconcerned because he cannot recall their previous encounter.
Significant themes
- Power and hierarchy: Rogge’s effortless defeat of two high-bounty pirates shows the vast gap between the Supernovas and a seasoned Shichibukai.
- Recklessness versus caution: Kid’s pride and the Supernovas’ curiosity contrast with Drake and Luo’s instinct to retreat.
- Memory and perspective: Brook and Chopper’s vivid fear of Rogge contrasts with Luffy’s forgetfulness and carefree attitude.
- Intimidation: Rogge’s presence alone freezes Kid and drives other pirates to reconsider fighting.
