Background / History

Su Ziyu is descended from a family of warlocks that inherited the incomplete Grimoire of the Old Days, an ancient text said to have been bestowed upon an ancestor by an ancient existence. His relatives pursued the grimoire, and their abuse intensified after his grandfather’s death; at age twelve, he was imprisoned and interrogated for a week to force him to reveal its location. 1 24

To escape his family and gain time to master the grimoire, Su Ziyu spent three years pretending to be insane in Jiangyuan Psychiatric Hospital. By the time the Monster Editor System appeared, he had completely mastered the Dark Wisdom Chapter and reached the Awakening Fifth Stage. 1

The system gave him the ability to extract supernatural materials and create monsters within its System Space. Su Ziyu treated the hospital crisis, contaminated patients, cultists, and later rival factions as both threats and sources of materials, rapidly building his own force. 1 7 17

Personality

Su Ziyu is controlled, observant, and intensely pragmatic. He evaluates threats through the All-Seeing True Eye before acting, rejects corrupt advancement shortcuts, and deliberately preserves the stability of his Mental Body rather than allowing obsession to consume him. 3 28 32

He distinguishes between enemies and uninvolved people: he released trapped Special Affairs agents and ordered Ruan Xiaoqi not to kill soldiers who were carrying out their duties. 11 12 His restraint does not extend to cultists or abusive relatives, whom he regards as having abandoned their humanity; he uses psychological manipulation, torture, execution, and spirit-based rituals without hesitation when he considers them necessary. 6 13 24

Su Ziyu is protective toward Ruan Xiaoqi and rewards the loyalty of Rage and his other followers, but he also guarantees obedience through hypnosis and absolute authority. 10 16 17 After completing his family revenge, his goals expand beyond survival into building a faction, controlling power in River City, and ultimately becoming the Burial Venerable. 17 28

Psychiatric Hospital and the Ghoul Cult

Su Ziyu begins his rise by receiving the Monster Editor System, creating the Dread Demon Eye, and advancing from Awakening Fifth Stage to Awakening Ninth Stage. 1 2 He exposes Director Li’s Ghoul Cult ritual, destroys the cultists, and turns Director Li into his first Evil Spirit Marionette. 5 6

At the S-Class containment facility, he encounters Ruan Xiaoqi and Old Huang. He removes Xiaoqi’s contamination, steals a fragment of the Spider God’s authority, and secures her loyalty; he later uses the Dread Demon Eye to end Old Huang’s mutation and extracts the Unifier of All Things’ phantom aura from his subconscious. 10 15 16

Su Ziyu then converts roughly one hundred Ghoul Cultists into an army of marionettes. Director Li’s marionette evolves into Rage, a half-step Morning Star Evil Spirit Knight and commander of thirty-six additional marionettes. 17

Faction Building and Family Revenge

After eliminating River City’s Ghoul Cult strongholds through Rage, Su Ziyu creates the Void Shadow Beast and reaches Half-Step Morning Star. 20 21 He begins his revenge campaign against the relatives who abused him and sought power through corruption. 22 24

Su Ziyu kills Su Zihao, defeats the corrupted Su Mingyi, interrogates an aristocratic woman through Rage’s Eighteen Torments of the Netherworld, and learns that the responsible organization is called the Old Days. 24 27 28 His investigation of the manor library exposes Su Jingtian’s corruption by the Old God Cult and leads to the Spiritual Visualization Method hidden by his grandfather. 29 31 32

Using the Primordial Demon God visualization, Su Ziyu breaks through to Morning Star Initial Stage. He subsequently protects Ruan Xiaoqi from the old witch concealed inside her spirit body, ensuring her successful advancement and purification. 35 36

River City and the Old God Cult Investigation

Operating under the identities of the Lord of Shadows and King in Yellow, Su Ziyu enters River City’s Transcendent night market to seek intelligence. His yellow robe unintentionally inspires fear connected to the King in Yellow legend. 38

He defeats a Black Bear-masked attacker, discovers the Seven-Segment Ringworm controlling his body, and later identifies the same parasite as the source of another cult’s apparent immortality. 40 44 Su Ziyu directs Rage’s forces against the factory cults, using the battle to strengthen his Netherworld Army and expose their hidden weakness. 43 44

While pursuing the Old God Cult’s bearded priest, Su Ziyu destroys Zhang Huan’s living-skin doll operation, acquires the Earth’s Seven Mysteries Chapter, and gains clues about a major-city ritual and an unidentified high priest. 45 47 He then uses harvested materials to create the Hundred-Tailed Serpent Fox and evolves Rage and other marionettes into stronger forms. 48 50
