Background / History

Origins and Early Cultivation

Nuwa and her elder brother Fuxi were born from the Innate Yin-Yang Origin: she embodied Lesser Yin, while he embodied Lesser Yang. Both developed Dao paths rooted in Yin-Yang, but Nuwa pursued creation and the nurturing of life, whereas Fuxi specialized in Heavenly Secrets and deduction. Their shared cultivation ground was Phoenix Perch Mountain, a branch mountain near Mount Buzhou 51.

At Zixiao Palace, Nuwa claimed one of the six meditation cushions alongside the Three Pure Ones, Kunpeng, and Hong Yun. Hongjun later accepted her as a disciple, bestowed two Supreme-Grade Innate Spiritual Treasures upon her, and granted her Primordial Purple Qi after his third lecture 11 70 74 75.

Exchanges with Dao Xuan

Dao Xuan visited Phoenix Perch Mountain to study Nuwa’s Creation Dao and influence the siblings’ future political choices. His experience creating spiritual roots and divine beasts earned her recognition as a fellow practitioner. Their exchange expanded into a ten-thousand-year discussion involving Creation, Heavenly Secrets, the Four Symbols, and the Innate Five Elements 51 52 53.

Nuwa’s teaching helped Dao Xuan’s Inner World begin naturally producing its own innate lifeforms. In return, his explanation of the simultaneous birth of the five elements revealed the limits of her previous understanding of their mutual-generation and restriction cycles 52 53.

Following Dao Xuan’s warning, Nuwa and Fuxi declined Dijun and Taiyi’s invitation to join the Demon Heavenly Court. During a later visit, Dao Xuan shared genuine Ren Water Immortal Peaches with them, prompting enlightenment and another three-thousand-year Dao discussion 57 60.

Creating Humanity

Despite her growing cultivation, Nuwa remained unable to sever her third Corpse. She left Phoenix Perch Mountain seeking inspiration and visited Chaos Island using Dao Xuan’s token. Although he was in seclusion, his disciples delivered Three Lights Divine Water and Nine Heavens Breath Soil that he had set aside for her 70.

After leaving the Eastern Sea, Nuwa realized that her path required creating a new race. Her reflection inspired her to shape a clay figure in her own likeness, but her first attempt produced flesh and blood without intelligence. She then understood that the divine water could supply souls, while the breath soil provided suitable bodies 70 71.

Nuwa created beings by hand until the expenditure of Creation Law exhausted her. Linghu then delivered a section of Gourd Vine, allowing her to produce further beings by flicking clay droplets onto the ground. She stopped when the population reached 129,600, the number of a complete cycle, and declared them humans—an acquired race intended to supplement the innate world and complete the Three Talents of heaven, earth, and humanity 71.

The Heavenly Dao rewarded her with immense merit. Nuwa directed much of it into a remaining clay figure, transformed it into a woman resembling herself, and used it to sever her obsession. She then reunited all Three Corpses and became a Saint, applying Dao Xuan’s limited hints in a way even he had not anticipated 71 72.

Establishing Taisu Heaven

After attaining sainthood, Nuwa accepted Golden Phoenix as her mount and announced that she would establish a cultivation seat in Chaos and preach the Dao. She first returned to Phoenix Perch Mountain to celebrate with Fuxi, then lifted their cultivation ground for relocation 72.

Using the Red Embroidered Ball and the Mountain and River State-Society Diagram, Nuwa opened Taisu Heaven, a Lesser Thousand World also called Nüwa Heaven. She populated it with plants and animals and placed her former sanctuary within it. The world stood beyond the Thirty-Three Heavens and outside the Demon Heavenly Court’s authority 74 75.

Inside her palace, Nuwa provided Dao Xuan with a Dao Platform equal in height to her own. She publicly revealed that he had attained the Dao before her and had helped her attain it, exposing his previously concealed Hunyuan Daluo Golden Immortal status 75.

Nuwa preached the Creation Dao for eight hundred years before inviting Dao Xuan to teach. Afterward, she could offer the Three Pure Ones, Jieyin, and Zhunti only a general account of her own attainment: the Heavenly Secrets concealed their individual routes to sainthood 76.

Humanity’s Early Development and Later Influence

Nuwa entrusted humanity to Linghu for ten thousand years, but prohibited her from using spells or divine abilities to solve its difficulties. Linghu could advise humans at critical moments; they otherwise had to establish themselves through their own efforts. Nuwa also forbade anyone from deliberately harming the Human Tribe for one hundred thousand years 72 83.

Her arrangement served both humanity and Dao Xuan’s lineage. Having foreseen the emergence of Suiren Shi, Youchao Shi, and Ziyi Shi, Nuwa gave Linghu the opportunity to guide them and earn merit, while repaying Dao Xuan for his assistance in creating humans 85.

Nuwa’s achievement inspired Minghe to create the Asura Race, though his imperfect race earned insufficient merit for sainthood. Her successful Three-Corpse reunification also became a benchmark against which other cultivators judged their progress, particularly when Laozi failed to reunite his own Corpses 86 89.

Personality

Nuwa combines intellectual confidence with a willingness to revise her understanding. She accepts Dao Xuan as a genuine practitioner after hearing his practical accomplishments, participates in prolonged debate, and acknowledges that her understanding of the Five Elements had been incomplete. Her decision to use her own creation as a Corpse vessel demonstrates independent insight rather than merely following instructions 51 53 72.

Sainthood does not make her demand deference from established friends. She warmly accepts Dao Xuan’s familiar “fellow Daoist” address, publicly credits his guidance, and playfully invites him to preach after her own sermon. Despite Dao Xuan’s recognition of her unmatched Creation Dao expertise, she describes her understanding as incomplete 74 75 76.

Her care for humanity is paired with strict limits on intervention. She protects the tribe against deliberate persecution and appoints a guide, but insists that humans overcome ordinary survival challenges themselves 83 85.

Abilities & Skills

Creation Dao

Nuwa’s Creation Dao concerns both physical life and its spiritual foundations; Dao Xuan regards her as the Primordial World’s foremost practitioner 52 76.

  • Foundations: Yin-Yang, life and death, flourishing and withering. Death ends old forms and creates room for renewal rather than simply opposing life 52.
  • Spiritual creation: True living beings require souls, spirituality, and Primordial Spirits, not merely bodies 52.
  • Human creation: Combines Creation Law with Nine Heavens Breath Soil for bodies and Three Lights Divine Water for souls 71.
  • Material dependence: Her first attempt using ordinary soil and creation qi produces a body without intelligence. Even her successful creation of flawless human souls relies on the divine water 70 86.
  • Energy cost: Repeated handcrafting drains her power; using the Gourd Vine greatly reduces the effort but produces weaker beings 71.
Creation method Documented result Cultivation / Potential
Individually shaping bodies from divine water and breath soil Creates three thousand beings from noon until dusk 71 Heavenly Immortal cultivation; greater potential than the later droplet-created batch 71
Flicking clay droplets with the Gourd Vine Raises the total population to 129,600 71 Below Earth Immortal cultivation; less potential, but much easier to produce 71

World Creation

Nuwa can transform an expanse of Chaos into a functioning world 74 75.

  • Suppresses nearby Chaos qi with the Red Embroidered Ball before initiating the upheaval 74.
  • Separates clear and turbid qi and brings forth earth, water, fire, and wind 75.
  • Uses the Mountain and River State-Society Diagram’s creation light to complete Taisu Heaven 75.
  • Populates the new world with flowers, trees, birds, fish, insects, and other living things 75.
  • The documented world is a Lesser Thousand World, not a Middle or Greater Thousand World 75.

Saint-Level Authority and Divination

Sainthood gives Nuwa world-spanning influence, but does not grant unrestricted knowledge of the future 72 76.

  • Her Saint’s pressure sweeps across the Primordial World and causes countless beings to bow toward her 72.
  • Moves her entire cultivation ground from Phoenix Perch Mountain into Chaos 72 75.
  • Issues the decree protecting humanity against deliberate harm for one hundred thousand years 83.
  • Foresees the rise of the Three Ancestors of the Human Race 85.
  • Cannot penetrate the Heavenly Secrets concealing her fellow disciples’ individual opportunities for sainthood 76.
  • Her Three-Corpse attainment does not guarantee victory over the Three Pure Ones, whose supreme-treasure-level weapons could offset her advantage 81.

Notable Quotes

“Life and death are not absolute opposites that destroy one another, but a Creation Cycle. Without death bringing old things to an end, there would be no space to nurture new life. The cycle of life and death is the source of endless renewal.” 52

“Heavenly Dao above! Today, I, Nuwa, have created a race here. They shall be called humans. With this acquired race, I shall supplement the innate and complete the way of the Three Talents—heaven, earth, and humanity. Let the Heavenly Dao bear witness!” 71

“Fellow Daoist Dao Xuan attained the Dao before I did. Moreover, I was fortunate enough to receive his guidance in attaining the Dao myself. Naturally, he is qualified to sit beside me.” 75
