Personality

Thor begins the conflict as battle-hungry, impulsive, and overly confident in Asgardian martial strength. He dismisses Thanos's technological tactics as cowardice and repeatedly favors direct assaults over Odin's strategic caution. 15 16 17

His loyalty is equally defining. The deaths of the Warriors Three drive him to attack Thanos despite Odin's orders, and he later remains behind with Heimdall to cover Asgard's retreat. 21 35

After being decisively defeated, Thor begins to recognize the limits of his inherited strength. He trains voluntarily for the first time, though he struggles against the bottleneck imposed by his royal bloodline. 31

His later conduct shows both growing resolve and persistent impulsiveness. He helps defend Blue Star through the Illuminati, but his eagerness to test Stormbreaker leads him to leave the Dwarves without realizing their danger. Grief over Asgard and his parents continues to drive him into direct attacks on Thanos, even after repeated defeats. 51 54 70 71 81

• Frigga — Mother. Her magic saves Thor after his near-fatal injuries, and she later receives him after Thanos destroys Mjolnir. Thor subsequently recalls her love while fighting Thanos. 31 38 71
• Heimdall — Trusted ally and fellow defender. They cover Asgard's retreat together; Heimdall later helps send the gravely injured Thor to Blue Star. 35 41 43

Story Role / Major Arcs

First War Against Thanos

Thor initially views Sanctuary II as a prize he wants to seize and advocates charging Thanos's fleet through the Bifrost rather than dealing with its spatial blockade. Odin rejects his approach, warning that the conflict is more serious than Thor's usual campaigns against rebellions. 15 16 17

When the Warriors Three challenge Thanos, Thor attempts to stop Fandral and Hogun after Volstagg is killed, but arrives too late. He then attacks Thanos in rage, only to be overwhelmed and sent flying after Tyrant's Blade nearly cleaves Mjolnir apart. 21 22

Thor is nearly killed when Thanos redirects Odin's energy attack into him. Sif retrieves him while Odin continues the duel, and Frigga later exhausts much of her magic healing his injuries. 23 24 31

Defense of Asgard

After recovering, Thor trains with the repaired Mjolnir and acknowledges that inherited royal power cannot protect him forever. His efforts reveal a bottleneck that he cannot overcome through ordinary training. 31

During Thanos's renewed invasion, Thor defends Asgard's left wing against Corvus Glaive and Proxima Midnight. He later remains outside Asgard's protective barrier with Heimdall to cover the retreat, ignoring Odin's order to withdraw because he is consumed by rage toward Thanos. 33 35

Final Battle and Exile to Blue Star

Thor destroys several of Thanos's warships in the final battle, forcing Thanos to intervene personally. Thanos shatters Mjolnir with Tyrant's Blade and sends Thor flying; Odin delivers him to Frigga before joining Hela against Thanos. 38

Heimdall eventually transports Thor to Blue Star. Ancient One heals his external wounds at Kamar-Taj, but cannot remove the Destructive Power still consuming him internally. At the time, Thor cannot return to Asgard or learn the fate of Odin and Heimdall. 42 43

Thorforce and Stormbreaker

Odin's secretly transmitted Odinforce eventually reaches Thor. The inherited power, now called the Thorforce, drives the Destructive Power from his body and helps him regain his strength. He joins the Illuminati on Blue Star and ultimately reaches Skyfather Level. 51 54 69

Seeking a replacement for Mjolnir, Thor travels to Dwarf Star, where Eitri forges Stormbreaker from the Dwarves' last Uru. Thor immediately teleports away to test it, unaware that he has left the Dwarves facing Thanos's approaching forces. On Blue Star, he seeks a sparring partner among the Illuminati and forgets their predicament. 53 54

Later Confrontations and Death

Thor accompanies Ancient One to Titan to confront Thanos. Remembering his parents and other loved ones briefly strengthens him during the fight, but Thanos defeats him. When Ancient One warns that she is losing control of her dark power, Thor withdraws through the Bifrost. 70 71

Thor later returns to battle Thanos alongside the Alliance of Gods. Despite having grown stronger, he is repeatedly wounded, caught briefly in a Mind Stone-induced mental world, and deprived of his Stormbreaker-wielding hand. Zeus intervenes before Thanos can finish him, but Thanos kills Thor. Zeus later tells Hercules of his death. 81 93
