Appearance
Cairns is a hulking man more than three meters tall, standing approximately 3.5 meters in one account. He normally wears a black CP0 suit and possesses a physically imposing build. 4 6
- Extremely tall and muscular.
- Serves as a mount for Saint Miming.
- Can partially transform into a Doberman-like form.
- His Dog-Dog Fruit can produce a canine head, a giant dog body, dog legs, claws, and paw pads. 37 38
Personality
Cairns is intensely submissive toward the Celestial Dragons, especially Saint Miming. He treats Miming’s commands as absolute and is quick to bow, flatter, or use threats on his master’s behalf. His fear of displeasing the Bird Family is repeatedly evident, particularly when Miming behaves unpredictably or when Saint Ni might discover that he has protected slaves. 4 10
Despite his servile manner, Cairns is observant and resourceful. He acts as Miming’s guide through Mary Geoise, explains the surrounding geography and social system, protects Miming during dangerous training, and invents a false explanation for Miming’s prophetic visions to conceal the Boa Sisters. 5 12 18
He is also capable of interpreting Miming’s intentions beneath his eccentric behavior. Although he initially doubts Miming’s dreams, he accepts increasingly absurd missions to prove his loyalty. His serious instruction is often undercut by a dry or deliberately foolish sense of humor, such as insisting that he possesses an invisible dog tail. 8 37
Abilities & Skills
CP0 Combat Ability
Cairns is one of the Bird Family’s CP0 agents, an elite bodyguard whose organization answers directly to the Celestial Dragons. CP0 agents are described as having combat power comparable to Marine admirals. 4
- Defeated Admiral Nelson Roy and his entire squad with overwhelming speed. 20
- Can move rapidly enough to appear almost invisible to ordinary fighters. 20
- Protects Miming during travel, training, and political confrontations.
- Uses his immense physical strength to kill a massive Sea King by throwing a sharpened tree trunk through its skull. 18
Life Return
Cairns possesses enough mastery of Life Return to use it in combat and physical movement. His speed and body control are presented as products of this training. 20
- Enhances his movement and reaction speed.
- Allows highly efficient control of his body during combat.
- Helps him maintain extraordinary physical performance while serving as Miming’s guard.
- His abilities remain below the level of the Twelve Gods, who are portrayed as vastly more powerful practitioners. 24
Doberman Dog-Dog Fruit
Cairns is a user of the Doberman-type Dog-Dog Fruit. Rather than relying on a large animal form, he focuses on the Doberman’s senses, fear response, and ability to dominate frightened targets. 37 38
Beast Head
Cairns transforms his head into that of a Doberman.
- Enhances hearing and smell.
- Provides a heightened sixth sense.
- Improves tracking and hunting.
- Helps detect people through changes in scent, heartbeat, pulse, and body temperature. 37 38
Beast Body
Cairns transforms his body into a giant dog while retaining control over his movement.
- Provides high speed and endurance.
- Functions as a mount.

- Accelerates recovery from wounds. 37
Partial Transformations
Cairns can transform only selected parts of his body.
- Dog Claw: Produces hardened claws and paw pads suitable for combat.
- Can reinforce his claws with Armament Haki. 37
- Excels at digging through the ground.
- Dog-Leg Form: Greatly increases jumping and running speed, reaching a level comparable to Soru. 38
“Bully the Weak and Fear the Strong”
Cairns’s signature technique is a powerful howl based on the Doberman’s instinct to sense and dominate fear. 38
- Induces overwhelming terror.
- Distorts the target’s perception.
- Disrupts breathing and coordination.
- Can prevent frightened opponents from using their abilities.
- Its effects can be resisted by exceptional willpower, including Conqueror’s Haki. A Seastone helmet also reduced Hancock’s exposure to the technique. 38
Sensory Link with Miming
As a Dog-Dog Fruit user, Cairns can sense changes in Miming’s emotions and body. This allows him to distinguish between genuine danger and deliberate risk-taking. 18
- Recognized that Miming’s plunge into the sea was intentional.
- Monitored Miming continuously during his five-day underwater ordeal.
- Detects changes caused by Miming’s Empowerment Ritual.
- Uses this awareness to protect and assist Miming without interrupting his training.
Relationships
- Saint Miming / Saint Sanming — Master and subordinate. Cairns serves as Miming’s bodyguard, mount, guide, investigator, and political intermediary. He gradually develops near-religious faith in Miming after witnessing his awakening of Conqueror’s Haki. 5 11 18
- Bird Family — Cairns’s affiliated Celestial Dragon family and the source of his CP0 appointment. He serves as their personal bodyguard. 4
- Boa Hancock, Sandersonia, and Marigold — Initially treats them as Miming’s slaves, but follows Miming’s orders to protect, conceal, and train them. He helps keep their existence secret from the Gorosei. 10 12 37
- Saint Ni — Cairns fears Saint Ni’s punishment and is forced to balance Ni’s orders against Miming’s attempts to protect slaves. 10
- The Gorosei — Reports to them directly after Miming’s Conqueror’s Haki awakens, but conceals the existence of the Boa Sisters to protect Miming’s plans. 11 12
- Stussy — A fellow CP0 agent and slave supplier who provides information and merchandise to the Celestial Dragons. Cairns identifies her role to Miming. 4 11
Story Role / Major Arcs
Bird Family Attendant
Cairns is introduced as the Bird Family’s CP0 bodyguard. He serves Miming during the aftermath of the Sea King incident and remains at his side when Miming returns to Mary Geoise. His obedience and fear reflect the extreme authority Celestial Dragons hold over CP0 agents. 4
Guide to Miming’s New Life
After Miming claims to have memory loss, Cairns becomes his guide to Mary Geoise, the Celestial Dragon hierarchy, his family history, and the outside world. He explains the fate of the Donquixote Family and helps Miming investigate his prophetic dreams. 5 6 8
Protector of the Boa Sisters
Cairns assists Miming in locating and concealing Boa Hancock, Sandersonia, and Marigold. He secretly protects them from discovery, arranges safer confinement, and helps maintain the public impression that Miming is merely training them as slaves. 11 12 36
Witness to Miming’s Awakening
Cairns witnesses Miming’s uncontrolled awakening of Conqueror’s Haki when Miming discovers Hancock and her sisters in the slave dungeon. The event changes Cairns’s view of Miming from obedient master to future world ruler. He subsequently lies to the Gorosei to protect Miming’s secret. 11 12
Guardian During Cultivation
Cairns accompanies Miming through his Empowerment Ritual recovery, rapid run across the Red Line, and five-day underwater endurance trial. He protects Miming from a Sea King and remains constantly vigilant until the ritual’s energy stabilizes. 17 18
Combat Demonstrator and Trainer
Cairns reveals his Doberman Fruit abilities to Miming and the Boa Sisters, teaching them that mastery comes from developing an animal’s defining trait rather than merely enlarging the transformed body. His demonstrations inspire the sisters’ training and influence Miming’s development of “Conqueror’s Shadow Song.” 37 38
Political and Military Servant
Cairns continues acting as Miming’s attendant during encounters with Marines, CP9, the Gorosei, and other Celestial Dragons. He supports Miming’s public persona while helping conceal his plans to protect slaves and manipulate the authorities. 20 38
Trivia
- Cairns’s size allows Miming to ride on his shoulder and later use him as a mount. 6 19
- His Dog-Dog Fruit is associated with CP0’s tradition of assigning Beast-Beast Fruits to agents serving Celestial Dragon families. 37
- His “Dog Tail Form” is invisible because Doberman tails are commonly docked; Cairns insists on pretending the form exists anyway. 37
- He is one of the few people who can remain conscious during Miming’s initial Conqueror’s Haki awakening. 11
