History

Tang San is already a God King when the story opens. During the Temporal Turbulence, he fights the imprisoned Golden Dragon King alongside the God Kings Kindness and Evil. He refuses their suggestion to let the Dragon King leave, arguing that killing him will provide power to stabilize the Divine Realm. Before they can complete the Sword of Judgment of the Three Realms, the Dragon King—Lin Yuan—sacrifices himself and establishes the Dragon God’s Ten Trials. The trials begin drawing power from the God Realm Center, forcing Tang San and the other gods to reinforce it 1 2 3.

Tang San sends his mother, Ah Yin, to protect Shrek Academy because he considers its survival important to the Divine Realm and his family’s future. She shields its teachers and students from a God-Slaying shell, sustaining devastating damage. After Baby Dragon kills Tang San’s father, Tang Hao, Tang San descends to Douluo Continent through Chen Xinjie to confront it. Lin Yuan takes control of Baby Dragon, then broadcasts Tang San’s unauthorized descent to the Divine Realm, where Kindness and Evil question his conduct as an Enforcer 9 20 21 22.

Lin Yuan gains control of Xiao Wu and uses her and Ah Yin to force Tang San into a choice. Tang San chooses to rescue Xiao Wu, but finds Ah Yin instead: Lin Yuan had misrepresented their locations. When threatened with Xiao Wu’s death, Tang San raises his Sea God Trident to kill Ah Yin. Lin Yuan stops the strike, and Ah Yin rejects her son. Tang San returns to the Divine Realm in a frenzied state; Kindness and Evil must restrain him while the realm continues losing power to the trials 23 24 25 26 27.

The Divine Realm subsequently divides between Tang San’s supporters and a faction led by Kindness and Evil. To avoid a destructive internal conflict, Tang San gives them half the authority over the God Realm Center. He proposes drawing energy from worlds connected by the trials, then sends a divine projection to Shrek to offer his teacher Yu Xiaogang a God Position, hoping he will defend the academy. Yu Xiaogang instead draws the Fart God’s Nine Examinations 46 47 48 49.

Personality

Tang San presents his decisions as necessary for the Divine Realm’s safety. He refuses to release the Golden Dragon King even when Kindness and Evil consider it the safer response to the Temporal Turbulence. Later, despite his conflict with those God Kings, he yields half the God Realm Center’s authority rather than risk destroying the realm through infighting 1 46.

His attachment to family drives him to descend after his parents’ deaths and to choose Xiao Wu when Lin Yuan threatens her and Ah Yin. That choice, followed by his willingness to strike Ah Yin, destroys his standing with many gods who had regarded him as a model of filial duty 21 24 26.
